This is a review of the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry unit within Lucille Packard's Children's…read moreHospital at Stanford (just so there is no confusion). At the urging of a local mental health professional who knew she was over her head with my son's condition, I searched all over Silicon Valley for a psychiatrist. It's really hard to schedule an appointment with anyone competent in mental health in this area because of a huge supply/demand problem. From what I can tell, having contacted several dozen mental health professionals in the area and having actually had meetings with approximately a dozen of them, there are not many good ones around here and the good ones are almost completely booked up many months in advance. So I got an appointment with Lucille Packard. It seems like they are basically a place for new Psych PhDs to get some experience. We saw two relatively inexperienced PhDs and one, briefly, who had more experience. The first one transferred out and on his way out declared my son was "cured," obviously because he wanted to claim he was successful and didn't want to be bothered anymore. His replacement did not spend almost any time at all evaluating my son and also claimed he was fine. Several other mental health professionals in the area claimed he was suicidal and had serious risks to deal with. And they were right. Basically, these people showed no concern for my son's mental health. They brushed him off. Quite unprofessional. Unfortunately, this is par for the course in this area. Most of the mental health professionals around here seem to have joined the profession for the money and not a desire to help people. Very, very unfortunate. I can understand that some professions are like that. But a child & adolescent psychiatrist? By the way, several times I have asked for followup calls regarding this center's mistreatment of my son and nobody has returned any of these...I will update this review if they ever do get to me to discuss where they fell short.

However, i was able to briefly see what was inside and it seemed like their equipment was up to date. And more importantly, it looked very clean and it didn't give off the "you're about to enter a hospital" feeling. I look forward to actually going inside and seeing what this hospital has to offer, hopefully someday even work in it as a nurse.

For some context; my partner and I had been together about 3 years, and were seriously considering…read moremarriage. I was interested in sort of laying out the internals of our relationship to therapist/counselor to see if there were any red flags we should be aware of, and talk through anything that could potentially be problematic for a long term relationship. Most importantly, Dr. Lillie is incredibly competent in her line of work, and can remarkably quickly ask the important questions to guide couples to new perspectives on their relationship. The way that Dr. Lillie interacted with my partner and I was not only transformative in the way we think, but carried care, empathy, and psychological safety. I never felt judged, only heard, but still was compelled to change my thinking about some foundational pillars of being in a relationship. Needless to say, my partner and I are happier than we ever thought possible, and indeed got married :) I owe a lot of this to only a few conversations I had with Dr. Lillie, and to that end, I'm very grateful for the time I've shared with her.

We have both worked with several therapists, so we have a lot to compare to. She is incredibly insightful, empathetic, and helps you make progress when you are stuck. She is highly intelligent and also brings her sense of humor when appropriate. She has really helped us improve our communication with each other. If you are looking for a therapist I would highly highly recommend Sandy. She is amazing.

This man quite literally saved my life!…read more Not the first psychologist I have seen, but the first one that made a difference. He helped me sort through a bunch of stressors, both present and past, and gave me a whole new outlook on life. I am much more relaxed and more comfortable around people now - and also more comfortable with myself. I appreciated his non-clinical attitude and informality. I could joke with him when I wanted to laugh, fiddle with a toy when I didn't want to talk for a moment, cry when I needed to... I was sharing the room with a real person, not some two-dimensional character. (I'm not a big fan of by-the-book CBT practitioners, nor of "and how did that make you feel" automatons.) Dr. Sitzer, will you marry me?

David is amazing! I've gone through very major life challenges and it's been overwhelming!! With…read moreDavid I have learnt that I am absolutely fine the way I am, and that more than anything, it often only takes the affirmation of a professional to tell you that your thoughts and emotions are valid, and that once you start to slow down and listen to your own inner voice, everything will fall into place. In short, he was able to teach me that I am fine just the way I am. All answers are already there. Other professionals suggested medication and a myriad of formal scary things, but I am so very glad I went for a second opinion and found David's services. Beyond the help this has provided to me as a person, I believe David's qualities of being very calm and patient but also funny and not rigid likely make the experience a good one for most clients. He just makes you feel good, and I believe that is what many of us need - along with simply believing in ourselves. Thank you David for the great professionalism and service!
