I stumbled upon the gallery earlier this week and was blown away by the unique collection of art they are curating from local and national artists. Of course some art was a bit out of my price range, but I was encouraged to see they also carry art that is very affordable and moderately sized for us apartment dwellers in the area. Everyone in the gallery was welcoming and very knowledgeable! I'll for sure be coming back here when I'm ready to make a few investments in great art. It's been weeks and I have no idea whether I will ever receive it, or if they actually shipped it, nor I believe that they will refund me. The way they have ignored me is unacceptable and unprofessional. I am truly disappointed and would definitely not recommend it.

I took a group class at Northern Clay center and it was amazing! We had 11 brand new students…read morelearning about throwing pottery for the first time (so we all needed individual attention) and the instructor was so friendly and able to help us all! I thought maybe we would each make one piece, but we each got to make 4 or 5 bowl-like objects (you got to pick) and to paint them. We also used the break room to order food, since pottery in the morning was hungry work. Northern Clay is giant inside- I had not idea looking at it from the street. There is a parking lot right by the building, so you don't have to worry about street parking. We had a great time, and will be back to pick up or art in 3 weeks! I definitely recommend the group classes or private parties, which came out to ~$50 per person.

The pottery is grouped by artist, which made it easy to limit my browsing to only the styles I liked. I know all pottery takes a lot of work, but I'm not going to spend $80 on a misshapen mug. The items do focus pretty heavily on dishes and cups/mugs, which made gift shopping a little difficult, since I wasn't about to buy a surprise dinnerware set for someone. The person manning the front desk was very helpful and brought out more pieces from the back room of artists I liked. She was also able to share with me which pieces were and were not dishwasher safe. I left with a good selection of gifts and would definitely come back again.

Depending on the size of the crowd, parking and entry can be a breeze or really tough. It is a venue that has a lot of potential, with both the inside of the building and the outdoor field where ABR is held available as potential space. I guess I would say that I feel the ABR is too big for this venue and there are parking issues (not to mention the wrap-around-the-block hour-long wait to get through the gate). Other things I've been to at this facility seemed better suited. For the record, I do think that reusing an old building period is awesome. It's way better than just letting it sit there. :-)

These are always on sites like Groupon, and you can probably find coupon codes online for their website as well. The event I attended was at the Big Thrill Factory in Minnetonka, and due to the ambient noise from the rest of the building, I wouldn't highly recommend this venue. But the food looked good, and the wine/beer options were reasonable. There were parts of the instruction that I thought went too fast, and other parts that went way too slow. The beginning was a little stressful for me, in part bc I've never painted on canvas before. I am a pretty crafty person in general, but my skills are more from years of summer camp. Our instructor had music playing, and at times it was distracting and very loud. She also kept encouraging us to drink, which I didn't mind but I think some people will find excessive. Our instructor was cheerful, but there are things I think she should have repeated or emphasized more (like using a lot of water mixed with the paint for the first step, and how to do blending better. I have no idea how to do a lot of shading, or work with light) If the idea of painting appeals to you at all, I think you'd have a good time at a Paint Nite event, no matter what your skill level. I can see why some people go again and again! We were there for almost 2 1/2 hours. I wish she hadn't taken such a long break before the final part of the painting, bc I would have liked to stay longer to add more details during the last step, or allow parts of my canvas to dry before adding more things on top.

I think it would be fun to paint with friends, but even better if I actually want to hang up the art piece on my wall! Paint Nite seems to hold all of their classes in restaurant party rooms. There were about 40 people in the class held at Andiamo in Apple Valley. We had our own server in the back private room for drinks or food. Drinking was encouraged, as that likely loosens up some of the anxious people who want to paint perfectly! People were encouraged to use their creative spirit and paint what they feel in the mood to make. Our instructor was named Lisa and she did a wonderful job. She took her time to go through the steps slowly, offered help as needed and had some music playing while the paint dried. Bring a few friends, have a wild time and go home with a handmade creation!

And if you ever want a Tiffany style stain glass lamp, this is the place to go. They were EVERYWHERE. On almost every piece of furniture. And believe me, there was a lot of furniture. Not only did they have stained glass lamps, but stained glass decorative pieces that you could hang in your window. There were quite a few of those, too. The furniture is all rich, dark stained wood pieces. At first blush, they all looked very well made, but I didn't investigate them very thoroughly. I was just walking through. The back quarter of the warehouse-type store was all Persian-type rugs. All sizes and shapes and lots of them. If ever you were looking for a rug, this might be a good place to look for selection. The store is right off Hwy 280 next to the ApplianceSmart. Take the Como Ave exit to get to it. When I was there just last week, they had a 40% off sale everything in the store. From what I hear, this is a common occurrence. If you're looking for a Tiffany lamp, or an unusual piece of furniture, come here and browse a little. You should find something you like.
