    Acupuncture office

Some of the best prices in Austin for massage therapy, cupping, nails, facials, body wraps, waxing, laser hair removal, brows/lashes, semi permanent makeup, acupuncture, and Chinese herbal medicines. Most of the services are $1/minute. The acupuncture is $80 for an hour session, and the LAC accepts most health insurance policies and is in network with 3. I also get my haircuts here from Jay Kelly, he is very knowledgeable. Most of the staff has decades of experience in their trades. I'm surprised it's not a lot busier.

OTOH, the receptionist at the 35th street location is wonderful, and all the aestheticians at that location are thoughtful, careful, informed, and very good listeners. Janna and Barbara are my preferred, but every facial I've had there has been lovely. I walk a lot, and my feet are gnarly gnomic nightmares of callouses on callouses. I had a doctor actually recommend I get pedicures to deal with how bad my callouses are. So, I started getting pedicures from various places. And then I got a pedicure from Rubey. She was the first pedicurist who didn't draw blood. I mentioned that to her, and she said she hears that a lot. And she was puzzled why people kept saying that. We say that because she's so good. So, I highly recommend Viva, especially Rubey, Janna (sp?), Barbara, and the 35th front desk person whose name I can't remember who straightened out so many things for me, but I wish they gave their massage therapists a longer break, and the music is bleh.

I found one and only one open booking at Milk + Honey nail salon today near home. They do soakless pedicures, which I'm not a big fan of. At the end of the day, I am most concerned with the final outcome not the journey to the end result. Although there is something to be said for soaking your feet in warm water. Milk + Honey uses warm wet towels to clean your feet. I got the standard pedicure. I'm going to Las Vegas tomorrow for a conference. I will be wearing sandals mostly. So, it is super important to have my feet looking nice. Milk + Honey are sustainability conscious. I was served chamomile tea with a cup that had these captions, " Certified Compostable " and "NO TREE" " No trees were harmed in the making of this cup." in addition, they had water bottle refillable station...first time I have seen this in a nail salon. Love this! Srija did a nice job on my feet. She was gentle in handling my feet and super precise in cutting my cuticles. I was also given 4 choices of lotions for my feet - Energize (my choice), Rosemary, Calm and Unscented. She ended with a foot massage which put me in and out of sleep. This is also a med spa. They me a brochure to read about other services offerings. Happy feet...happy life!

Thus, I decided to cash in my last Mother's Day gift, i.e. facial gift card. A friend recommended Spavia for a facial and feel like I hit the jack pot. Spavia is aesthetically pleasing and very Zen. I felt like I walked directly into a serene, calm and cozy place. The hostess checked me and showed me around the spa. Brick accents, fireplace (yep...not wood burning) and black curtains created a slow persona in an inviting space. The lounge was alluring with tranquil music, oversized seating, and blankets, should you need covering. There's a women's and men's retreat for you to relax or unwind while you wait for your appointment to start. My treatment was rejuvenating...relaxing, calming, and almost hypnotizing. Haven, my esthetician, worked miracles on my face. I was more than pleased. After my facial, my skin felt moisturized, refreshed, and totally chill. In addition, they give you a robe and slippers, for use in the salon. The price was comparable to other facials I researched in Austin. Also, there is a free garage parking.

She also put the back of my rt hand to my left shoulder blade... i thought she would support the front of the shoulder and kneed under my scapula, but instead, without support the front of my shoulder which was rounding towards the table with my hand pulled so far up my back, she just pulled my rt elbow back pretty hard. I yelled, and she said, 'you don't like stretching. She actually could've ripped my rotator cuff, which is still feeling tender. At some point, she put a very hot eye pillow on my eyes. At the end, she pulled off my eye pillow to the lights fully up, and thru my robe (which was pretty heavy) on top of me from the door. Just weird. Leaving a bit more tense.

For the pros, I did the Emerald Bliss ritual and my only complaint is wish there was an option to make it longer. It's hours later and I still feel very relaxed. I also liked that when checking in you can indicate if you want to talk or not during the session and I appreciated that there was a variety of spa options (wet sauna, dry sauna, whirlpool, etc). The less than ideal part of the experience is that it's a bit small. The cold plunge is a single person tub. The area around the whirlpool could use more lounge chairs, and the relaxation room is too close to the lockers. Also seemed like with the crowd it was difficult for the staff to keep up with cleaning up cups. I would come back for sure but would maybe opt for a weekday when it's presumably less busy.

When I arrived, staff seemed confused by my appointment and the vibe immediately felt awkward. I requested a male masseuse which was accommodated at first. During the massage, the owner interrupted the session to have me redo paperwork while I was face down and topless on the table because I forgot to write the date instead of asking me afterwards. Later, the door was opened multiple times while I was actively being massaged face down so staff could casually talk to the therapist for almost an entire minute. At one point they apparently switched massage therapists entirely without informing me or asking for consent -- suddenly a woman, instead of the man I began with, was talking to me and I had no idea someone else was touching me. One therapist was coughing throughout the session, and another handled my body very aggressively, moving my legs without warning and forcing my hypermobile knees into uncomfortable positions. My neck hurts today afterward. The worst moment was when I was flipping over and the door opened AGAIN while I was completely exposed on top. No explanations or apologies. Overall the entire experience felt chaotic, invasive, unprofessional, and deeply uncomfortable. Honestly I feel violated. I've never had a massage where multiple people worked on me without explanation, the room was repeatedly interrupted, and my privacy felt so disregarded.
