Wow! What an amazing experience! I've never done acupuncture and I'm so glad my first experience was here! The whole staff is amazing. So knowledgeable, kind and welcoming. I have been dealing with back pain for almost half my life. It's been a constant, debilitating pain for the past several years. I've been to all of the traditional treatments- physical therapy, Chiropractic 2x a week and strength training. Even got an epidermal spinal injection to numb the pain for a few months. Needless to say, I've spent a boat load trying to make the pain in my lower back go away and allow me to live a pain free life(without medicines). I can honestly say after 1 session with Dr.Yen, this daily constant pain subsided. I'm shocked! This severe back pain that I deal with daily has vanished! Doesn't seem real. For the first time ever, I decided to give acupuncture a try. I was a bit nervous, as expected with something as intricate, delicate and powerful as this beautifully ancient practice is. The entire staff is very welcoming, and professional. The doctor took his time explaining what were the causes of my symptoms (that I have had for many years now), and to my surprise the doctor confirmed to me what I always believed, but never got a reassuring answer from conventional doctors. And that is every part of our body is connected (and/or interconnected), and he was able to explain to me how the issues with my lower back, are related to respiratory issues that I have had, and so forth. I informed the doctor of the medications, and treatments that I used in the past, he reassured me that with his help it will take some time for my body (inside and out) to heal properly. And in a calm and welcoming demeanor, he reassured me that the treatment, will give my body and mind the rejuvenation I have long been seeking. So without anything further to say, I put myself in his care, and I barely felt anything as the doctor inserted the needles into me. After he finished placing all the necessary needles, the doctor put on rain and bird sounds, for me to listen to while taking a deep sleep. About an hour later, the needles were removed, and some herbal oil was rub on my back, legs, hands and ankles. As I got ready to leave, I felt a great surge of raw, and intense energy flowing through me. It was an amazing feeling. I also received a herbal supplement to help with the continued healing process, and I can say for certainty that feel absolutely wonderful. Peaceful energy when I sleep, and a natural adrenaline rush when I am awake, and going about my day. I feel 10x better during my workouts, and enjoy my hiking even more so now. Just before I went to Nina's to try the acupuncture, I had an energy drink, as that is what I was use to consuming throughout my day. I haven't touched that energy drink since last week Monday, and I'm testing myself to see how long I will go without buying and consuming another one of those drinks. Pretty disappointed with my experience. My message therapist was nice overall, however, we started 15 minutes late and she ended 10 minutes early and that's a big no for me. Also, when I mentioned it to the lady in the front she said "oh sorry" as if it was unimportant to her. The Best! I highly recommend this place for facials. The atmosphere was very inviting with relaxing music. I got the hydralessence facial and honestly looked younger and refreshed the next day after a good night rest. Mimi has a firm touch and gave me an amazing facial that included a lymphatic massage. I have just completed my fourth season with Dr Yen and Mimi for a problem that has plagued me for years. I tried physical therapy for months with no success. The therapist was just guessing and I gave up. I remembered that over 30 years ago I had used acupuncture for my back with great success so I asked for a recommendation from a member of my local Nextdoor and Nina's was recommended and I found that they accepted Medicare. I have been going to this day spa for 20 yeas. Mimi is exceptional except for my last 2 visits. She was on the phone during my treatment! I'm sorry but unless it's an emergency why would you be on the phone? I think it is highly unprofessional and doesn't make me - the client - feel like I'm getting her full attention. I also had a horrible experience during an eyelash dye. She once again was on the phone during and afterwards - left the room while I had the dye on my eyes and proceeded to not check on me for a very long time - probably 20 minutes! It was starting to burn and what the heck can one do?? She then proceeded to put some kind of cleaning product on my eyes and very harshly started scrubbing. I have very sensitive eyes and have never had an issue with this. I left there very dissatisfied after so many years of loyal service. I'm not sure I'll return. read more

I have never written a Yelp review but, after such a horrifying experience at Nina's, I feel I need to warn other potential customers. Due to an out of town wedding I was attending, I called ahead to Nina's to schedule a lash and brow tint and was able to get in the same day. After asking how dark I wanted my lashes and brows, I was led to a back room where the tint was applied and left there in the dark for what seemed to be a very long time. Someone finally returned to check on me and decided that the dye needed to be left on longer, at which point the dye began to burn my lids and brows. Long story short, I was left with awful and painful chemical burns on my brows and eyelids that could not be covered or fixed. I could not return to the salon to request a refund, etc. as I had to leave town for several weeks the following day. My face has still not completely healed and they dye has already completely faded. I will not be returning. read more

I was introduced to Nina's after Groupon offered a $10 deal for an eyebrow wax and quick massage. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by Nina who quickly led me to the back where I received a relatively pain-free and quick brow wax and a nice massage. I asked if she had time for a lip wax as well and she happily said yes. Overall, I spent about $15 for both a brow and lip wax, which is about half of what I used to pay at Brazilia on Guadalupe. Not only is Nina's very reasonably priced, but her brow shaping is phenomenal. I also didn't experience any skin trauma like I did at Brazilia (bleeding and raw skin around my brows and lips). I agree with the other reviewers that her salon isn't posh and fancy, but it is still very warm and inviting. I'll be back to see her soon! read more

That being said, they did a great job with my full leg wax. They were efficient, thorough, (relatively) painless, and super quick. I was out in 20 minutes, and they got all my hair. Best leg wax I've received and much less expensive than most places. The ladies I worked with were so nice and friendly. It was just the two of them working though, so they had to multitask at times. I have been to this salon twice, the first time was great, I had called earlier and made an appointment, and as soon as I walked in they greeted me and my friend right on time for a massage and wax. The second time I didn't make an appointment, it was a few days before my wedding so you know what service I needed (hehe ;) however when I walked in there was not a single soul in sight. I rang the bell a couple times, called hello towards the back of the shop, no response. I thought, maybe they went out to lunch and forgot to lock their door? After 10 minutes I stepped outside and waited in the car. I see another customer walk in, and a few minutes later a lady appears from the back, so I get out of my car and go back inside. I was helped right away. Mimi is excellent, got a brazillian and leg wax and because I had previously gotten my eyebrows done at another salon, she plucked a few stray hairs to refine the shape of my eyebrows. I'm only taking a star away because of the awkward walk-in, I really think someone should always be at the front of the shop whether the business is slow or not. read more

Seems like my previous review struck a cord with someone working with these fine folks at Nina's. Yelp censored my review after the update citing I needed to report on the customer experience. Well if this was not a customer experience, I don't know what is. Also, they left my update up, which has NOTHING to do with the business experience, just the recourse from my original post. Here is the update: "He posted such a crappy review to get at us. this will be a huge lawsuit .. " The latter was just one of the barrage of comments that were published on my personal Facebook page at the end of March, of which most were libelous and threatening. This person chose to broadcast a bald-faced lie to the public (including my employer) claiming I had asked for sexual favors, and that's why I didn't get my manicure Very professional. ============================================ TLDR: I posted an honest review about receiving abominable service, and now am being called names, lied about, and threatened with "law-suits." Here is my original review: I have been here twice, how many manicures have I received? NONE. The first time, I walk in and ask for a manicure. They are like, "OOOH, we close at five." The current time was 4:40. Why would I go back? Who knows, but I did. Moving on, I walk in today for a manicure, lady tells me to sit down. I wait to 10 minutes then some lady comes out from the back with a backpack, apologizes for having to leave, then heads out. I promptly get up and leave, never to return again. I don't know how the manicures are, because I never got one. As a potential customer, however, I was treated horribly. I work in the service industry and tip generously. on a 12 dollar manicure I routinely tip 13 $. Did they know that? Of course not! They have a "full release" special for like fifteen dollars. I just met Mimi and I am more than impressed. I went for the affordable Brazilian wax ($35) and great reviews. It was not my first Brazilian, and she took no more than 5 minutes, you guys, seriously. She is so fast. Her eyebrow wax ($10) is also lightning fast and beautiful. Then I settled in for a 60 minute facial. Now, I don't know much about facials, but this one was so much more than I expected. She used tons of oils and scrubs that smelled wonderful, steamed my face, extracted my blackheads, and gave hot stone massages to my neck, shoulders, arms, hands, calves, and feet, and more that I can't remember right now. So I basically got a facial with an hour-long almost-full-body hot stone massage for $60! What a steal. Know this: Mimi does not have a feather touch. If you like light touch, you should let her know. She has strong, firm hands and she will move you around to get you where she needs you. She did not say much during the facial/massage, which I liked. I don't like when folks are giving you a sales pitch while you're trying to relax. Overall, I was thrilled with the quality of the service and the prices. This is not a fancy, spa-atmosphere place. She complimented my eyebrows (which I do myself), and was very efficient without seeming rushed. She was done so fast, I was surprised to see she had done a flawless job, and whatever type of toners or oils she used allowed me to walk out of there with minimal redness to then face the public and go shopping. I had previously been going to a nearby cosmetology school, but they charged more and the whole ordeal sometimes took 45 minutes to an hour with the wait times involved. She will take the liberty of positioning you in the best way for her to be thorough. I have been getting Brazilians for over 2 years so I know the drill. If you have never had errr...landscaping done before and do not know what to expect then that may seem off-putting. She also massaged my neck and shoulders afterwards. She was truly interested in what I thought about the wax and in making sure she minimized my level of pain...lol! I felt super comfortable and the eyebrow wax itself was great, and she took time to pluck all my extra little wildthing hairs. Then she gave me a quick face massage and placed a cool cloth over my eyes. It felt soooooo good. And my eyebrows look great! In the end I wound up being charged $7 even though I had my Groupon, which was a little confusing, but the service was so great I didn't even bother questioning it.
