this place came highly recommended by a friend who grew up in harpursville. he said that i have to go and try their stromboli and breakfast pizza. he hyped it up a lot, and usually when that happens it doesn't live up to your expectations, and that was totally the case with the Nineveh Country Store.
my friend and i came here in the afternoon to receive service from a flustered woman who looked bothered by our business, she definitely did not have a welcoming attitude. my friend and i each had a piece of stromboli, a slice of pizza (they didn't have breakfast pizza available), and a brownie. i also got a sub to take home for a later meal. my friend and i agreed that the pizza was decent, it kinda reminded me of high school cafeteria pizza. the stromboli on the other hand didn't do much for me at all. the person working there asked if we wanted our meals heated up. at most places, this means throwing them into a pizza oven for a minute and getting fresh tasting food. not the case here. she threw em in a microwave and the stromboli still came out cold. the bread on it was good but i wasn't a fan of it overall, there wasn't much cheese or sauce in it and it had almost enough salty cured meat to give you a heart attack. i get that people are attached to foods they grew up on, but this place just didn't do it for me. the brownie was on the verge of going stale and it wasn't anything the average joe couldn't whip up at home from a boxed mix. they did however offer brownies with walnuts, which is great, but for those of you with weak baby teeth they also offer nutless brownies. the sub ended up being the best thing i had here. it had a good flavor and the meat seemed like it was good quality, although the way it was put together made for uneven bites. one bite you would get all ham and then next would be all lettuce. if i ever somehow end up back here my first choice would be the sub.
as for the interior, it's redneck central. there's anti-obama propaganda on the walls along with framed pictures of high school boys wrestling. and the wallpaper! EW! the wallpaper is pictures of bricks! it's the tackiest thing i've ever seen!
