From my first visit, he and his staff were friendly, efficient, and very thorough. My father had been a patient of his for years and spoke very highly of him, and I now understand why. Visiting a Urologist can be (especially for men) a bit intimidating, but this practice made the process very simple and unassuming. Although I can't recall her name right now, the woman at the front desk was wonderful as far as scheduling and working with me to ensure my (sometimes difficult) pharmacy filled my needed prescriptions. I was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and was referred to Dr. Sarayia by my therapist to reevaluate my antidepressant meds. At first Dr. Sarayia was responsive to the need to see me as soon as possible. His initial change in my meds worked extremely well. I felt the best that i had in the months following my diagnosis. When he went to make a further adjustment he gave me two options. At that point I trusted his judgement so I was secure in going with his recommendation. I told him that my only concern about a change was that my next oncology appointment was the following Tuesday and it was a particulary scary time for me. He chose to take me off the combination of meds that worked and put me on a higher dose of one of them. Our hope was that I would feel even better. He in turn assured me that if there was any problem that i was to text him and he would get back to me immediately. We had a good plan. The second day on the new regimen I was experiencing increased anxiety, fearful thoughts about dying, etc. So on the third day i texted him as planned that i was heading into a crisis. More than two hours went by as i continued to feel worse with no response from Dr. Sarayia. I called my therapist in a panic. She assured me that Dr. Sarayia was available as she herself had heard from him that day. When I finally got a text from him he simply said this: Looks like you did better on the lower dose. Huh? I was on two meds not one. What did the text mean? No further texts followed. What did he want me to do? Silence from him. My condition continuing to deteriorate and I was becoming more agitated. My therapist had to intervene and texted him to call me. After he received her text he did call and left this message: go back to the protocol you were on before. huh? His prescription for one of the drugs was different than the one he wanted me to return to. Where/how was I supposed to get a prescription? It was a Sunday and he was my psychiatrist. He never followed up after his voicemail. By then it was clear that this was callous medical mistreatment. I texted him to please take me off his schedule as i was no longer his patient. He texted back and i parapharase here: i had a right to seek any medical care from anyone i wanted, he was sorry that i didn't FEEL that his response was soon enough, in retropect he should have asked me to call instead of text, and that he wished me good luck in the future. I called a friend who was a psychiatrist and when she heard the protocol Dr. Sarayia put me on she was surprised and in her opinion it was far too agressive. She corrected the doses and wrote a new prescripton for me to fill. It took me 5 days to feel back to myself. I believe that I was both medically and emotionally mistreated by Dr. Sarayia-- a doctor who ironically splits his bill into medical and psychotherapy fees.

He takes his job very seriously and is focused on helping me feel less depressed and anxious. He is highly educated (graduated from Harvard!) and really knows his stuff. There are many psychiatrists today who are not up to date on today's current research like he is. I feel he is attentive, intuitive and serious about me making positive changes in my life. He knows what he's doing and is able to feed off who I am as an individual and not treat me as just another patient. His care seems individualized and curtailed to my specific issues which means he's really listening and compassionate. He is always on time (unlike other psychs that make you wait 45 mns) and helped get my prescriptions filled even if it meant doing a prior authorization. I definitely recommend him!

Unfortunately, my experience was deeply negative--I left the appointment feeling violated, objectified, and humiliated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Exam: The most disturbing part of the appointment was the exam itself. Without asking my consent, Dr. Goldstein brought two additional people into the room-- his nurse practitioner (Charlotte Mueller) and a trainee. I was never asked if I was comfortable with their presence, and all three entered while I was undressed. A gynecological exam typically includes a doctor and a nurse, which I would not have objected to. But the addition of a third observer, without warning or need, was completely inappropriate. The exam felt less like medical care and more like a classroom demonstration. The nurse practitioner leaned over Dr. Goldstein's shoulder for nearly the entire exam, closely watching in a way that felt invasive and humiliating. Dr. Goldstein also touched me in ways that did not seem medically necessary for my condition. Perhaps this is part of his standard protocol, but for a $2,000 appointment, I would expect him to conduct the exam with greater sensitivity and individual consideration. Gynecological exams are already uncomfortable and awkward-- he should have the awareness to avoid unnecessary contact and prioritize the patient's comfort unless absolutely essential. Afterward, he invited everyone to look at my sample under the microscope-- not because he needed their input, but because it was, in his words, a "great example of yeast." This was dehumanizing, turning my body into a teaching case instead of treating me with sensitivity and respect. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Violation of Privacy and Dishonesty: A few days later, I discovered that Dr. Goldstein had looked me up on LinkedIn. I strongly believe this occurred after my appointment, since he explicitly told me he had reviewed my case the day before, yet LinkedIn showed the search happened on the day of the visit. At first, he claimed it was to "check for conflicts of interest." When I pressed further, he admitted in writing that the real reason was that he "didn't recognize my employer." His explanation still makes no sense and, at this point, I have no reason to believe him. In his latest email, Dr. Goldstein noted that his questionnaire "includes questions about education, employment, work history etc. While it may surprise you, this type of information frequently plays a role in the care of my patients." But this only heightens my concern: if his intake form already asked for that information, I had every opportunity to provide it. In fact, I had already included my work history and current place of employment. Any additional details he could have been asked to me directly. If a patient chooses not to disclose certain information on an intake form, it should be respected as a personal boundary. Looking me up online was completely unnecessary for my care and only reinforces the impression that Dr. Goldstein is inappropriately curious about his patients in ways that cross professional boundaries. Given the level of detail already demanded on his intake form, this was a clear violation of my privacy and trust. While not illegal--since LinkedIn is public--it remains deeply inappropriate and unprofessional for a physician. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Overall, Dr. Goldstein's disregard for boundaries extended to every part of the process. His website featured sexualized black-and-white images of naked women, which immediately struck me as inappropriate. The intake form took over an hour to complete, asked highly personal questions about my sexual history that had nothing to do with my condition, and offered no option to skip. This lack of professionalism carried into the appointment itself: despite charging $2,000 for the visit, he had clearly not reviewed the lab results I sent in advance, and when I raised questions, he brushed them off with, "I'm really good at this," rather than engaging with my concerns thoughtfully. Between the invasive and downright humiliating exam, the blatant violation of my privacy (and the lies that accompanied it), the dismissive treatment plan, and the exploitative cost, I left feeling dehumanized and violated. Compassion, respect, and sensitivity should be the foundation of women's healthcare-- yet Dr. Goldstein showed none of these qualities. No matter his reputation, a doctor who disregards consent, dismisses patient concerns, and invades privacy is not someone I can trust with my health. The sad reality is that he may have the expertise to help me-- but I am not so desperate for relief that I am willing to sacrifice my dignity.

Despite the astronomical fee there was zero indication he had taken any time prior to my appointment to review the answers to an extensive questionnaire I'd filled out at his office's request. Instead, at the start of the appointment, he sped (at top volume & speed) through the highly personal information contained in the questionnaire. I felt like a case study in a teaching hospital during the examination, as he asked the young women in attendance to speculate on my condition, encouraging discussion of my genitals as if the rest of me weren't there. I've never had such an experience, before or since, with any private doctor. Later in the appointment, prior to a biopsy or tests of any kind, he loudly barreled through frightening pronouncements on my diagnosis. These have proven to be untrue. Best to avoid.
