The staff at the front reception is welcoming and friendly and the nurse is polite and professional. I actually enjoyed it; I thought it was pretty cool to see how my skin reacts to different types of allergens. It is rare if not impossible to find a doctor as thorough, knowledgeable, and experienced as he is. So an update to my previous post The doctor did call and apologize about the mishap with billing, and he was very nice, and wanted to do everything he could to rectify the situation - so props for that. I do have to say, it wasn't the problem with the doctor, it was with the admin staff at the office, which hopefully he does something about. It may not be him, but it is his responsibility to make sure his staff is courteous to his patients. I do have my choice of doctors, and it does matter the staff he hires, so hopefully someone has a more positive experience to write about his staff than I do. *********************************************************** Very unhappy with my experience here. I came here on the recommendation of my physician for a allergy test. Maybe I should have known better, but the receptionist didn't tell me when I made my appointment that I shouldn't take my allergy medicine the night before my appointment. Given it's my first appointment, you would think they would make that an important point. So after they pricked my entire arm, they realize I was on my allergy medication, and I was told to schedule another appointment. They charged me $400 for this. I then came in for my second appointment, and was charged another $200 for work that should have been complete the first time around if the receptionist had done her job. And I was told I had to pay that day, so I forked over the money. Then my insurance company sends me the statement, and apparently, the doctor's office not only over charged me, they filed the forms claiming I didn't pay! So the insurance sent the check to the doctor's office instead of me (remember, I paid for the entire bill already). So now two months later, and I'm still waiting for my refund from the doctor's office. And I was also scolded by the secretary b/c I was a little late to my second appointment. She gave me a lecture on how unprofessional it was, and how I was setting them back. Yeah, I got you, I shouldn't be late, but don't lecture me on it. I have been a patient of Dr Gary Stadmauer's for the past 2 years. When I first became a patient I had spells where i would develop a severe cough that made it difficult to talk or move. The coughing spells would last for weeks. By the time I found Dr Stadmauer I had been to ~25 doctors (counting both ER doctors and specialists). Dr Stadmauer was able to diagnose me and get me on a medication to stop the coughing within a week. I highly recommend Dr Stadmauer. read more

I've recently picked up a habit of passing out at the doctor's office during routine tests and blood work. Fun! This has led me to be irrationally nervous during any doctor's visit that involves testing. I'm talking distract-me-like-a-kid nervous. But I am really trying to get a grip on my eczema which led me to get some allergy testing at Dr. Stadtmauer's. He and his staff were more kind and understanding than I could have asked for. I explained to them my hesitations and Dr. Stadtmauer went out of his way to accommodate my requests and make me feel at ease. He was even going to pull up some YouTube videos for me to watch during a simple prick test, it was that bad. Thankfully I was his last patient for the day and he sat with me during the entirety of the test, speaking to me about eczema and how he and his patients deal with it. Dr. Stadtmauer is great! I was able to quickly make an appointment through ZocDoc, print the forms off the website, and have everything filled out and ready to go by the time my appointment rolled around! His staff is friendly and the office is very laid back and comfortable. He sat and spoke with me for a bit then did the exam. We went over my concerns and whatnot and he explained how the respiratory system works. It was like a course in A&P combined with an exam. He has a great bedside manner and listens to what you have to say. Also apparently everyone in the building knows him. read more

I have left many reviews of this doctor across the web and here's why: this guy is dangerous. The first day I met him he gaslit me. The last time I saw him, I caught him in the midst of trying to undermine my perception of reality multiple times. I cut him off each time and called him out for this, but he kept at it without an ounce of shame. This is the kind of behavior that results in the vast discrepancies for women in obtaining a diagnosis that we see today. If you are a feminist, do not give Dr. Stadtmauer's practice your money. He did this to me, so know that he will not hesitate to do it to you. A word of advice: if a doctor says anything to you to undermine your perception of reality, don't trust a word that comes out of their mouth. Vote with your feet and let this guy know through his bottom line that women are done putting up with doctors who dismiss their lived experiences rather than just admitting that they don't know the answer. Dr. Stadtmauer if you are reading this, you need to learn some humility and practice this phrase: " I don't know ." read more

Dr. Stadtmauer has dramatically changed my quality of life for the better. I have been hospitalized five times since my teens because of respiratory issues that were triggered by my severe allergies to dogs and dust. I was dependent on allergy pills steroid inhalers and would have to stay away from certain homes of people in my life with pets. I associate the winter holidays with not being able to breath. I began my accelerated allergy shot treatment with Dr Stadtmauer about a year and a half ago. After the first six months, I noticed a significant change in my tolerance in high allergen situations. My inhalers now get used a few times a year as opposed to a few times a day while I visit my brother's family and their pets or 10 times over Thanksgiving and Christmas at my parents' older home. It has truly been life changing. Dr. S was attentive and monitored my progress and any reactions I had closely. I appreciated his optimistic, but cautious approach. I scream his praises and the praises of his amazing staff from the rooftops and recommend him to anybody I hear talking about their allergies. read more

This may be the best allergist in the world, but I will never know. I tried to make an appointment to get a flu shot, but the office staff and office policies were so not customer-friendly that it was an exceedingly unpleasant process, ending with the office unilaterally *CANCELING* my appointment and refusing to help me. At first, they agreed to make an appointment for me - just for the flu shot - even though I am not a current patient of the doctor's. (They have a special version of the flu shot at this office for people with egg allergies, which is not widely available - and that would be great, except that apparently they don't want to deal with new patients who want/need an egg-free flu shot.) They made me an appointment for 10:30 on Thursday. And during the scheduling conversation, the representative said she was doing me a "favor." Huh? By providing a medical service to a new patient? Because that's your actual business, so this seems like a business transaction, not a favor. I'd be paying $75 for this "favor," so there's actually a great deal of quid pro quo here. Plus, while the office takes my health insurance, they said they wouldn't take it for this flu shot (presumably so they can charge a great deal more than the insurance would pay - and in fact they wanted to charge 50% more than the other place in the city that offers this special vaccine). Okay, whatever. Then they called me on Wednesday at noon-ish - less than 24 hours before my appointment - to tell me that I had to pay the $75 fee in cash. Um, what? Is this a drug deal or a doctor's office? I said that there had not been an all-cash stipulation when I made the appointment, and I did not appreciate them imposing even more restrictions on me. I called my insurance to see if they would even reimburse the $75, since that seems like a lot for a flu shot. The insurance wanted the procedure code from the doctor's office in order to price out what they would cover. When I called the doctor's office to get the code, they transferred me to yet another lady in their office who informed me they had changed their policy and were no longer offering this vaccine to non-patients. I pointed out that I had an appointment in less than 24 hours, and she informed me that no, I no longer did and they would not see me nor be giving me a flu shot. If this is how they treat new patients, I have to say, I don't mind not being one. But I do think other potential clients deserve to know about their remarkable approach to customer service. read more

I saw Dr. Staudmauer for the first time 3 years ago with recurrent sinus and lung issues including a recently diagnosed immune issue. Multiple visits with him throughout this process and he was always thorough, took time to explain and listen to my questions and cared more than all of the other multiple doctors I had been too. When I moved to New York several years ago, I went about looking for a new allergist the same way I always look for a new doctor in a new town, I went to my insurance web site and chose a name I liked with an office that was conveniently located. Gary happened to be the name of my last allergist whom I really liked so Dr. Stadtmauer was my pick. Based on this very scientific method for choosing a physician, I was surprised to find that I had done so well. Dr. Stadtmauer was warm and personable. We sat in his office while he asked me about my medical history and listen attentively while I spoke about what my concerns were with the medications used to control my type of allergy related asthma. Since I am someone who does not like to take a lot of medications, I had hoped to remain on the same treatments I had been using for the last 10+ years. Although he was not totally convinced that he should prescribe the same care, after several appointments he agreed to keep me on my old reliable (affordable) medications, for which I was grateful. Under no circumstances would I ever suggest that I know more about treating an illness than someone with a medical degree, but I do know what works for me physically and ideologically and I was happy to find someone who was willing to work with me rather than tell me no. For those of us with the kinds asthma and allergies that show no signs of disappearing, a good doctor is so important. Dr. Stadtmauer has been great for me. I first saw him a couple of years ago for my severe asthma and sinus infections. At that time he discovered I had extreme nasal polyps as well so he sent me to get sinus surgery which cured my chronic sinus infections and headaches. Due to life-long asthma and medication-dependance, scar tissue, city pollution, and stress I still have a lot of inflammation in my lungs so now I am glad to be back w/ Dr. Stadtmauer. He's working with me to find the right medications and dosages to control my asthma and improve my quality of life. He responds to communications very promptly with thoughtful responses, and takes time in each appointment to address the issues, and he remembers my history, never rushes me out or seems inattentive. DR. Stadtmauer takes the initiative to educate me about how newer medicines work, how to apply for experimental treatments, & find ways to help me access expensive medications. he listens to my concerns about side effects or long-term drug usage- he doesn't just write a prescription and walk away, like so many doctors seem to do. The last time I posted a review here, about 2 years ago, it was so positive & glowing that it actually got erased by Yelp's automated screener, so suffice to say that I am very grateful for Dr. Stadtmauer and plan to keep seeing him.
