Recently attended a medical conference at the NIU conference center, and I was impressed by its natural lighting, open spaces, cleanliness, and easy-to-find conference rooms. There is plenty of parking right outside of the venue, which was perfect for the cold, icy weather that day. There were coat racks and all event staff were very friendly. The conference rooms/lecture halls were spacious and welcoming. The projectors and remotes were all up-to-date and worked smoothly. I was impressed by this conference venue; it is perfect for smaller conferences. The only downside was that there were not enough seating areas in the first floor lobby, save for 2 small couches. There was more seating area upstairs with small tables, but it would still be useful to have chairs available in the lobby. read more

On our hunt for a venue to use for our wedding reception, my future MIL suggested NIU Naperville. It's easy to find, has plenty of parking, and a security guard on site (to keep the wedding crashers at bay?), so we went to check it out. It was the first and only place we visited, but that's pretty much how selecting everything with our wedding went. No fuss- keep it simple. We met with Gina in February to take a tour and learn more about the space. Due to our wedding being in December, we were given a discount on the pricing as it's "off season." We were able to secure all three rooms for the price of two, and were also given the option to downgrade to the two rooms for the price of the single room and we could make that change whenever we wanted. It was decided to keep all three rooms to give our guests plenty of room to mingle, dance, or shy away to a corner to avoid someone's creepy relative. As time went on, we learned that Barb would be our coordinator. We were slightly bummed, as we had been dealing with Gina for most of the time and had grown accustomed to dealing with her. Nonetheless, Barb was very helpful. She was quick to answer our emails along the wedding planning journey and quickly addressed any issues we had. If you decide to have your reception at NIU Naperville, be advised that you must use one of their approved caterers for the food. We had four to choose from, and we ended up selecting Sodexo, as what they offered best met our needs and budget. In October, my MIL, M, and I went to meet with Barb to fine tune all the small details. Months earlier we were emailed a very detailed list which covered everything from the wedding theme to table linens, ceremony details to the small items and who were to provide them. It was a bit overwhelming, but I found that by filling it out a little at a time, it wasn't so difficult to complete. On our wedding day, my husband and I arrived to a beautifully decorated venue. Everything was set up perfectly, both in the main room as well as the atrium. The entire evening was wonderful and everything ran smoothly. If there were any problems that came up, they were so minor that I didn't notice them. Both Barb and Gina are wonderful coordinators and the rest of their staff are very professional, especially during the "tear down". All of our items were boxed up and securely stored until we were able to retrieve them a few days later. I highly recommend NIU Naperville for anyone looking for a wedding reception venue. read more

Wow! This building is much nicer than some of the buildings at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, well except for Barcema. I only have to come here for an online class mandatory meetings. I wish I spent more time here than in some of the gross buildings on main campus. Maybe administrators should take notes! Building is clean, and easy to navigate, staff is friendly, and that's all I can really say about it from me limited experience here. read more

NIU Campus Naperville - A great venue for a wedding reception. This is probably one of the best kept secrets in the Western Suburbs. My daughter chose this spot for her June 2012 wedding reception after viewing the information on the "Knot" a well known wedding internet site. We visited six locations and this was the winner hands down. The NIU team was very friendly and approachable from the very first interview. Our daughter made "blueprints" of the floor and table layouts and provided them to the staff three days before the wedding. My husband and I arrived an hour before the cocktail hour was to begin to make sure all was in order. On one of the banquet tables was the "blueprint" supplied by our daughter and everything was as she planned. I can not say enough about the friendly professionalism of the staff. The venue utilizes two food vendors and we chose Sodexo. Due to many different eating styles within the soon to be combined family - football players with big appetites to vegetarians we opted for a buffet style dinner. The food was plentiful, savory and well presented. The servers were polite and attentive without being in the way. This venue offers a one stop reception site - room - food servie - bakery - linens & set up / clean up. Great price - location - scenery. Check out this location! read more

We had our wedding here on Saturday, August 11, 2012 and it was amazing! The staff is so helpful and made our wedding planning experience easy and hassle free. The venue is gorgeous with a nice sized outdoor patio with a fountain and small pond view. The inside is equally as amazing with floor to ceiling windows. We had our ceremony outside on the patio, which worked out perfectly and comfortably fit our 100 guests. We used one of NIU's caterers, Sodexo, and they were great as well. The venue worked with the caterer and made the whole process painless! The buffet food was delicious and received many compliments from our guests. I recommend this venue and their services to anyone for any type of larger event! Thanks to everyone at NIU and Sodexo who made our wedding wonderful and memorable! read more

Gina and her team were fabulous to work with for a March wedding. Their flexibility and event knowledge made the event extremely easy - including setting up and breaking down hanging lanterns, setting up a photo backdrop, a Giant Jenga, a Bags Toss and a S'mores bar. I used this facility for my wedding in June of 2011. I will first start with the fact that this facility is NEW to the wedding circuit. I believe that the 2010 reviews are outdated by this point since this is when the first opened for weddings. Okay, I LOVE this place and the people. Shirley is a god-send! She was willing to work with us through everything. We had some quirky details that most banquets and other facilities wouldn't accomodate. We wanted to have our own caterer (this cancels out most banquet halls), we wanted a live band (this knocks out more subdued locations I was looking at like art museums) and we wanted to bring it our homemade champagne (most places don't allow this due to legal ramifications). NIU let us really do whatever we wanted as long as we kept them in the loop. The day of the wedding was beautiful!! The layout was exactly what we discussed, everything was clean, the staff was helpful, and security was always around to make sure everything was running smoothly!! In the end we brought in flowers, lighting, a band, a caterer, a cake caterer, photographers, linens and 110 guests! It completely transformed the room from conference to cool clean-lined wedding hall. We used the atrium for our cocktail hour and the conference rooms for the reception. I honestly cannot say how great these people are. Throughout my wedding planning most other vendors made mistakes or didn't understand our vision, NIU was the only vendor I didn't worry about! read more
