    Mmmmmm, cheesecake!

I've been to Lake Geneva, WI several times, but never knew a Geneva, IL existed... until this past weekend. I was invited to relax and unwind at this quaint inn located on the scenic Fox River. Although this establishment is decorated like a set from The Golden Girls, that's all a part of its charm. Heavy on dark wood, florals and tapestry. We were greeted by friendly front desk who checked us in quickly. The best part of it all, is that my lil precious pooch, Tikki, was welcome at the Herrington for a nominal fee. We checked into our beautifully appointed and spacious suite and began to settle in, when shortly thereafter, delicious chocolate chip cookies and milk were delivered to our room. Very nice touch. We took my dog for a long walk on the trail along the Fix River, ordered pizza from a nearby pizzeria, stuffed ourselves and went to sleep. The next morning I had an appointment for a microdermabrasion facial and it was just what the doctor ordered. Shania was very hospitable, asked pertinent questions before delivering an exceptional experience. Facials can sometimes be just a tad bit uncomfortable, but she was so gentle I actually dozed off (sorry for the snoring, Shania)! The hand massage put me in a further state of relaxation that I floated out of the treatment room into the waiting area and caught a quick nap. That evening we had dinner reservation at Atwater's, the in-house fine dining restaurant. The experience from beginning to end was nothing short of exceptional. Our server was welcoming, had tons of personality and made sure we were well taken care of. From the amuse bouche, to starters our entree and dessert, every course was top notch. Honestly, because I'm a chef and food snob, I didn't think a suburban restaurant could produce the presentation and flavors of city restaurants, but I was wrong. The shrimp and grits app and duck breast entree were some of the best I've ever had. The Herrington Inn and Spa, just an hour away from the city, is the perfect getaway for those looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of weekend city life, but can still deliver on culinary excellence. I'd jump at the opportunity to return!

This beautiful establishment hosted my friends' baby shower and it was absolutely lovely from start to finish. This space was perfectly accommodating, with a great view from their outdoor space just outside the dining area. In addition to the great atmosphere, the food served was delicious all around as well. Glowing reviews and smiles could be found around the room. Much appreciation to the Herrington for hosting this event!

great experience. Room was super clean and well appointed. Love the fireplace, heated floor, and milk and cookie turndown service. Will be back.

Beautiful restored hotel, big rooms with Tall ceilings and nicely appointed furnishings. My one frustration was virtually no ability to cool the room below 75 degrees. Staff rudely assured us after the first nite that nothing was wrong with our air conditioning and given a card taped to the thermostat that made no sense at all(see photo)....give me a functioning air conditioner and I would go back in a heartbeat.....until then I would only stay in the dead of winter.

    Very upscale worthy

I tried to add photos from our Anniversary visit last week. I can see them on my account but they are not visible here. The charming shops located all around Geneva are easily accessible by foot. Not to be missed is The Little Traveler and many others along South 3rd Street. Some of our favorite restaurants are also nearby. Niche, Craft Urban, Barrel + Rye and of course Atwater's, which is in The Herrington.

John was great! He helped us with our tv and went above and beyond! This was already our favorite place and he just reminded us why!

After being on the road we stopped at Herrington Inn for a glass of wine and a little rest. Stayed longer than expected and enjoyed the house riesling and charcuterie board. Staff were really accommodating. Everyone very polite and eager to make our stop as comfortable as possible. We overnighted at Herrington in the past and were nicely surprised that the food this time was so good as well. Absolutely, my girl and I agreed our time at Herrington was one of the best afternoons in a long while. We love the place.

    Sitting in the beautiful bar.

My favorite part of this hotel has got to be the hot cinnamon rolls, which are available with the included breakfast in the morning. They always had plenty of cinnamon rolls available, and the friendly breakfast attendant kept everything stocked. The breakfast also included a couple of hot dishes (including scrambled eggs, egg white omelet, etc) as well as yogurt, cereal, and juices. The room I had was clean and spacious. I'm taking off a star because there was no bar soap available this time (I even asked at the front desk). They provided Dove hand wash, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner in large refillable containers. There used to be a Chili's restaurant that shared a parking lot with this hotel. Now they're building a Chick-fil-A (yuck!). There's an Olive Garden and Giordano's Pizza just a short walk away. There was a tornado warning (with siren) when I was staying at this hotel. I expected an announcement or call from the front desk, giving directions to guests, but they didn't make any kind of effort to do that. I just stayed in my room and hoped for the best. It was a bit creepy!

I got almost no sleep before a very long road trip the next morning. At 5 AM I went to the lobby and was offered 2,000 IHG points, which honestly felt insulting given the circumstances. Later Rosa reached out offering 2,000 points and 10% off the room. I contacted IHG corporate, who provided 15,000 points, but explained that any refund must come directly from the hotel. When I followed up with the hotel asking them to honor the 10% discount they themselves offered, Janae refused and said IHG already handled it -- despite IHG telling me the hotel had to process the refund. The rooms were dirty and clearly not maintained well if appliances are already failing like this. The way this situation was handled shows a serious lack of professionalism and hospitality. IHG should be embarrassed to have a property operating at this level under their brand.

EVERY room is beautiful. The decor throughout is curated perfectly for the property. We stayed with another family, kids in tow. The kids had a blast running around the property and playing in the pool. The gardens are gorgeous. The front lawn is bigger than a football field - perfect for frisbee! We woke up in the morning to a table set outside and the BEST breakfast spread you could ask for. Pancakes, amazing eggs, toast, banana bread, potatoes, fruit, and perfectly cooked bacon. I can't emphasize enough how gorgeous the setting is, how at home we felt and just all around grateful and happy we were to be there. We had a quick peek at the event space - it's fabulous!!!
