I'll put it up front. The price was high for dinner omakase. That said, the expectation was high as well. It fell a bit short on a few axis. Only half the dishes were creative and fun. The other half was what you would expect from most mid-quality sushi places. Flavors were good. But I was expecting each dish to be fun and different and flavorful. Maybe one or 2 dishes to be a traditional, what you would expect, sushi place dish. I wanted a good sake to pair with our foods. The waiter didn't really toss out any recommendations and when asked, said they were all good. I'm sure they are....but at least come prepared to have a recommendation or two. The restaurant itself was nice and felt like a good set up. Some tables were more intimate than others. It was a bit pounder than I expected. Lots of shouting and banter everywhere. Felt more like a nice restaurant than a high end experience. Being overly critical here because this is a very pricey place and one would expect the price to reflect the food and the experience. I believe it fell short of the price. Not really by a landslide but enough to chalk this place up to a novelty. Go once. Experience it. Then tell your friends you did it.

Nobu London at this location was where I learned to love sushi 23 years ago. The freshness of the sushi was the main factor. Since then, I've been to Nobus in Milan, NYC's various locations, Malibu, West Hollywood, Newport Beach, the Indian Wells BNP Tennis Tournament pop-up and Honolulu. My absolute favorite is still at this location because they still have the anticucho steak that we can't get in the US as an entree. Love our usual dishes of yellowtail jalapeño, new style sashimi w/scallops, the soft shell crab roll, spicy tuna roll, tuna tacos, and mushroom soup. We didn't order the rock shrimp tempura and instead did the miso cod; made me realize why I don't like the cod - you just feel ugh after a few bites but more of a personal preference vs. how it was cooked. The dessert is always their weakest link and remains that way. I had this mango dessert that was like a trifle in this impossible vessel - had to empty it of the sponge cake to get to the rest of the dessert. Just have the mochi ice-cream if you want dessert.

Thank you, Nobu, for the most amazing birthday experience from the moment I booked a reservation to the end of my meal. The staff was fantastic and patient with me explaining everything. I was nervous being a party of one, and they made me feel so special with the card and dessert birthday wishes. I will definitely return on my next visit to London. The ambiance was really nice. I was seated in the perfect location and well attended to.

Ate at this Nobu last week, it was my first time eating at a nobu and they definitely left a good impression. We ordered the newstyle salmon sashimi, salmon sushi rolls, salmon crispy rice, wagu sliders, the wagu steak and all plates impressed everyone at the table. The service was good and the ambience was nice and classy. The only negative side of our dinner was that we wanted to order the wagu dumplings but the kitchen was out, besides that we were very impressed.

Nothing wrong with the place. Nice enough and very social place that heats up around 9pm on Monday night but food was below average in quality. Just a bit too chain and mass produced. Find someplace with a better sushi chef. This was the place 25 years ago not today.

Our Monday night experience at Nobu was MEH and only made it to A-OK thanks to attentive staff and management. The food alone would NOT have made it to A-OK. Going to Nobu for her birthday after the completion of The Championship (aka Wimbledon for folks that are not interested in tennis) is our friend's tradition. So we looked forward some treats. All three of us love sashimi, but for variety, we thought the seasonal tasting menu would be a good idea. Wrong! The tasting menu was MEH at best. I rarely had worse. And it is hard to get less value (£100 per person). The tapas size dishes were generally over-sauced. On the seafood starter plate had salmon, but - in my opinion - salmon doesn't belong on a sushi/sashimi plate (unless you are feeding kids that are afraid of raw seafood). The marinated hamachi was one of the few enjoyable bites. It would have been better without the marinade as I like to taste the ingredients. Do not get me wrong. We all love spice and spicy dishes. I mean extreme spicy as long as the spice doesn't cover the ingredients' taste. Here Nobu generally failed. It got worse with their Wagyu course. No idea where that old cow came from. There was no sign of tender fattiness that Wagyu is famous for. Just pieces that remind one of shoe leather: both in texture and taste (and I am only exaggerating slightly). It was time for a call to management. They actually brought us a replacement dish. A Peruvian style beef dish that was simmered rather than fried. It wasn't a great dish either, but the cooking method seemed to be more compatible with the beef they offered. The spice - a sauce that tasted a lot like tabasco from a bottle - didn't really agree with beef. The manager said that it is a traditional Peruvian spice. If true, I conclude that I do not like Peruvian spice. Frustrated with the food so far, we ordered a few pieces of sashimi and finally Nobu didn't mess up. Mackerel and o-toro were excellent. The scallops might be good for the location, but living in New England spoiled us, and therefore cannot win awards. The razor clams were out. Otherwise, the fish choices seemed pedestrian. Mackerel and o-toro are the winners. On the beverage side, I asked about their Daiginjo. Our waitress said that the Daiginjo is very bland and she recommended one of their other dry sakes, Onigoroshi (at half-price). As I was hesitating, she offered to bring us two cups to try. The recommended sake was not bad, but had too many strong flavors with a hint of a bitter, chemical aftertaste. We stuck to the Daiginjo and were very happy after three large carafes for three people. The standard Nobu Daiginjo has a typical, clean, delicate Niigata flavor. Definitely done right! May be too delicate vor the Peruvian side of the restaurant. Eventually we made it to dessert, which was pleasant and covered some of the earlier pains. Picture to follow ...

You've been to one nobu and you have been to them all. It's a bit overpriced and over rates at this point.

I was lucky enough to, along with a colleague, be taken here on several occasions for a quick lunch by a client (indicative of how welcoming the Japanese are!) By 'genuine' I mean no dumbed-down menus, no super-slick interiors to detract from potentially average food, and no gimmicks of any kind. The place is staffed and run by Japanese nationals as any self-respecting Japanese restaurant should be - and perhaps more importantly, frequented by them regularly, too. Service is smiling and attentive and no more that it needs to be. The food is inexpensive (~£6-8 for a bento, £7-11 for ramen, udon or donburi) and so tasty. On my most recent trip I had beef ramen with tan tan (sesame paste) soup base, and my brother had salmon teriyaki on brown rice. Both dishes had generous proportions of meat/fish, and the donburi came with a side salad and pickles. The unagi (eel) is also lovely, and the place does an extensive line in pick-your-soup base noodle bowl dishes where you have the option of shoyu, miso, and sesame as mentioned above, among others. I can't speak for the takeaway bento, but they looked pretty solid and of a decent quality. Drinks come in the familiar (Coke etc) and the more, um, 'traditional' - aloe vera juice, Pocari, cold bottled green and black teas and others. This place is rather hidden away on the fringes of the City, behind Aldgate station on the Petticoat Lane side. In many ways it's a great location as it's very much a local haunt, and in others a little frustrating as even if you're working in the City it can be a fair walk to get there and back! My advice would also be to get there early (between midday and half-past) to ensure a seat, as well as before some of the more popular items on the menu disappear. In brief summary, I couldn't really recommend this place enough if you're in the area. You'll get multi-kudos from any friends Nippon friends (or appreciators of their incredible cuisine) and have a lunch to beat the hell out of an uninspired sandwich / soft-drink combo whilst spending a similarly scant amount of your hard-earned cash. As your fellow diners would say: "itedakimas!"

I would go back for sure as the service was good, minus my coworkers chicken dish took forever to come out, as we kept having to check on it. The Uni was definitely not a bad batch as it had a sweetness and creamy texture that I would expect. Amaebi was not the larger shrimp with the fried heads, so not what I was expecting. As for the Natto Rolls, I could tell you that our young waitress made a surprising face, which made me laugh, as I could tell she was from Japan, as I was told not many Japanese even eat Natto. Of course I had to ask later and she is not a fan. Hahaha... I enjoyed it though. Enjoy.

My personal favourite was the sushi, although I was misled by the prawn tempura roll, thinking it was a hand roll. It was just maki. Oh well. Yum nonetheless!! Would not recommend it for a (rowdy or not) group for friends, as it's very very quiet, eclectically lit and patrons seem to want to keep it that way.
