This "Day of the Dead" event took place in an area too small, at least to accommodate the night crowd. There was a huge turnout of people, causing the crowd to slow down to a crawl and the darkness made it difficult to look at all the amazing altars closely and appreciate them. If I come back for this event next year, I would definitely come during the day. YES, COME DURING THE DAY! There were 2 concert areas and a food area where bunch of vendors were. The most popular one was the vendor selling these giant tortas. I wanted one so bad but when I saw the lines wrapping around, I had to walk away. Other vendors had churros, funnel cakes, tacos, pupusas, etc. I didn't give a fuck about those though, I just wanted one of those tortas - maybe next year...

With Santa Ana's high Latino population, it's only natural they should have such a nice, well-organized Dia de los Muertos in the middle of their historic downtown. A few streets are closed off to regular traffic with altars pieced together by local families and organizations. Unlike the flash and glitter of LEDs and expensive props and art one might find decorating the altars at Hollywood Forever's Day of the Dead, the ofrendas at Noche de Altares are very traditional with photos, candles, flowers, pan de muerte, statuary, items that belonged to the deceased, and skull art. The festival includes a small stage for various music and dance acts, as well as a long line of tents for vendors and artisans, not to mention all of the small businesses that line the street. It's a good, solid community event.

Congratulations to the organizers for other successful event! It was wonderful to share with people from everywhere such a traditional holiday. Beautiful Altars, handcrafts, souvenirs and delicious food. Awesome! Next year is going to be even better.

A very cool free event! On the corner of 4th and Broadway, the streets are filled with alters dedicated to loved ones or a loved cause. Attendees are encouraged to participate as well but if you can't do your own "dia de Los muertos" makeup, there are a few vendors (mostly charitable causes) applying makeup, for a small fee. Traffic can be pretty hectic and parking as well, so arrive early. There are plenty of food stands, In addition to all the delicious restaurants, so come hungry! I had a fun time and would recommend dropping by.

Many people were dressed up that night, and this girl was no exception. She was beaming!

If you've never been to Downtown Santa Ana's festival for Day of the Dead, plan your calendars for next year to come and check it out. Noche de Altares happens every year the Saturday after Halloween. Technically, Day of the Dead (Dia de Los Muertos) lands on November 2 every year but the festivities will always happen on a Saturday, coinciding with Santa Ana's monthly Art Walk (which happens on the first Saturday of every month). What to expect: lots of local vendors selling clothes, art work, sugar skulls, Suavecito pomade and other knick knacks, long lines for good Mexican food (although it you're like me, you hike it over to the closest mariscos place in downtown), the smell of incense and chrysanthemums, and many beautiful altars honoring the dead. I've never been during the day but I'm sure it's not as crowded as it is at night. Parking can be an issue - street parking and paid parking structures only. I've been going for years now and it's worth it every single time. Next year I'll try to hit it up during the day. It's a free event with many opportunities to take fantastic photos. See you next year!

Simply marvelous! A fantastic Day of the Dead celebration in Downtown Santa Ana! The people, the energy and the artistry of the Noche de Altares is super awesome. This event is worth the minor traffic of finding a great parking spot. Once you park, you walk thru the most amazing displays of remembrance of loved ones, food stands, art and retail vendors and more! I had brought along my family to take it all in, and we had such a great time! Listening to local bands performing, meeting with people who have designed their altars, eating super delicious food and watching kids perform their county dances was super fun! We couldn't stay for the lighting of the candles due to a last minute change of events, however I definitely plan to come again next year to see the glorious candles lit in the evening which I heard was beautiful. Perks: Food is everywhere! From street tacos, to pupusas then to churros and fruit smoothies. Local vendors and small businesses around to support Shopping! Items from Day of the Dead art work, clothing and props. Local schools and clubs sharing cultural activities and traditions for everyone to experience! KNOW before you GO: Best bring cash with you. Some vendors do take debit/credit cards and square, but cash would make the most simplest transactions with everything. OverALL: Do not miss this event! So worth the experience! Great celebration for all ages to enjoy! See you there next year!

Traditions and celebrations such as this make me proud to have moved to Santa Ana. This was the first time coming to the event and it was amazing. Impressive altares display a myriad of themes from personal loss to celebrating the regions of Mexico. Parking could be tough but I expect that if you get here early it wouldn't be too bad - there are several structures to park in the area. Also, DTSA has a great selection of restaurants, they're a but pricy but Memphis, C4 Deli, Mil Jugos (they close early!), and The Playground are the best. Beware there are a lot of people so if you don't like crowds, you might want to come early.

The environment was great, a lot to do and a lot to see, its a nice way to learn about our own culture and what is the significance of the Altares, the only thing that ruined the moment, was some protestors, did not quite understand what they were protesting about but other then that, you could easily kill a day at the event noche de altares.

I didn't have any questions for him though. This year there was a wonderful area specifically designed for children. Apparently the restaurant, Canes chicken fingers, gave a lot of donations for this area. The only thing I didn't care for was the timeshare booth, they really didn't advertise what their intent was. I noticed that everybody was enjoying the food, it's just such a wonderful event! [Parking]: $15 per vehicle for on-site parking just to enter the OC Fair & Event Center. [Admission]: Our party purchased the same-day tickets and paid a $16 per person entry fee. [What to expect]: The market was approximately half food vendors and half arts / crafts / gift vendors. There were solid craft and gift vendors, but not too many art vendors. The food was extremely overpriced ... a simple appetizer = at least $15+ & a filling meal = at least $25. The only real positive? There was a mahjong area that offered free lessons. The performance stage was alright. [Food]: Our party ended up getting only 6 pieces of soup dumplings (aka XLB) from Dumpling Dream for $14 and a cup of gelatea from Boutcha for $7.20 (one of the most affordable and best item to get at the market). [Conclusion]: If I ever come back to 626 Night Market, I would probably stick with the Arcadia location as parking is free and the admission fee is slightly cheaper. I am still having a hard time digesting the fact that getting into the market cost $30+ before even buying any food if I come here alone and I would also need to spend another $25+ just to feel like I had eaten a legit meal. I am good with this one-and-done visit.

The chicken was perfectly fried and seasoned. The extreme heat of the chicken complimented the cold raindrops slowly landing on us as it was about to rain. The event and live entertainment continued despite the drastic change in the weather. We mostly spent much of our time under the VIP tent due to the rain, but enjoyed mingling with the other guests trying to stay dry, and continued listening to the live band while trying some bites located within the VIP tent. An open bar was also included for anyone attending as a VIP. The drinks were great and crafted pretty well by a small staff of bartenders working endlessly due to the rain. Thanks to the bartenders for keeping the vibe strong. We enjoyed our time at this year's event. Hopefully next time it won't be raining, but that didn't stop the Taste of Santa Ana event from being a success.

It was still fun, but improvements are needed to make this the great event it has the potential to be. There are so many things right about this event. It's in a unique and fun location (Tustin Hangar where they used to house blimps). There are dozens and dozens of vendors and room for even more. On paper, it sounds pretty perfect. In reality, the event space was incredibly dark and a significant portion of the lights were out for part of the night (music disappeared too, so probably a power issue). Mood lighting is great, but you shouldn't have to get your face right up to the bottles of wine or plates of food to figure out what is being offered. Some areas had better lighting than others, but they really need to get lighting everywhere. Tea light candles don't cut it. The other major issue was that so many vendors packed up and left before the first or second hour. So if you passed something earlier thinking you'd go back and try it later, too bad! Props to Fresh Brothers and Piadina for having food up until the end of the event. With an event this large, it's just not possible to do it all within an hour (at least not if you want to enjoy it), so it's terrible that some restaurants were gone before an hour had passed. If you are thinking of purchasing a ticket, let this serve as a warning so you will be prepared and not disappointed as I was. It's still a good event, but it has so much more potential.

Such a unique and interesting venue! I was very surprised with how organized this food festival actually was. I've been to a few food walks/festivals and they've always been so cluttered. They did an amazing job with organization. As soon as you enter they had several workers handing out wine glasses with the cutest Tustin Food and Wine logo on it. This would be your glass for most, if not all, of the tastings. Each vendor provided water for you to rinse out your glass with before a new taste. Most of the food was to the right side of the room and the alcohol to the left side of the room. Although it is titled a food and wine festival, they had such a wide variety of food and alcohol. They were serving everything from wine and beer to sake bombs and shots of bourbon. As for food vendors they had plenty of options. They were serving poke, clam chowder, indian food, and so much more. Expect to be full 15 minutes in. The only critique I truly have for this event is the lighting. I think they were going for a darker ambiance but it was very difficult to read the vendors signs or even see what they were serving. It was so hard to take any photos or videos. All in all, it was a great event. I could definitely see myself coming back next year. If you get a chance to go, come with an empty stomach and comfortable shoes.

I'm not too picky between reds and whites, but I have to say that the Chardonnay sure won me over! 3) Mangiamo Gelato Caffe by Bob Hoxsie. Big fan! His champagne gelato was unlike anything I've ever tasted. It had the perfect blend of gelato and bubbly. I went back a second and third time to savor more but they ran out completely! Bummer! Why? As I recall Nguyen hue didn't have a food court. This had a food court which took over a side street n boy was that fun, they had my favorite "banh khot fr Vung Tau" grilled lobster tail. Soups, pancakes etc.. all the yummy street food you can afford wo having to sell your house these days. The flowers were amazing orchids, gladiolus there were many juicery stands, beef jerky stores, I bought a nice fake Chanel sweater only $25 just as good as the real thing. They also sell red envelopes for "lixi" happy or lucky money, on week ends they had live music n lion dance. I love the Asian Garden mall the only indoor mall we have here. Vietnamese from 49 states came here every year n most will immediately make plan to move to this land of milk n honey, it used to be really easy to move here n so cheap too. An average home I used to sell for $140k is now $1.4 million in Little Saigon so most VN tourists will just hang out here enjoy the ambiance, the food n have to go home, even then it's so worth it to visit a home away from home.

My biggest concern was the lack of access to water and the response to a medical situation I witnessed. At one point, someone appeared to be overheated and ended up on the ground. Given the warm weather and large crowds, I was surprised by the lack of urgency and support. Staff didn't have "water cups" so they ignored what was going on around them. I also asked for a cup of water to stay hydrated and was told no. For an event where people are walking around for hours in the sun, basic access to water should be a priority. The event itself was fun and well attended, but I think there is room for improvement when it comes to attendee safety, hydration, and responding to medical concerns.

Great community event, because its very popular. Parking is limited and tough. Downtown streets are…read moreblocked off for pedestrians and the event, so it's nice to freely roam around the streets. Each chili vendor has a different take, so go in with an open mind. I also never agree with Chili contest winners. So there lots of different types, seasonings, with or without meat. You buy tasting tickets, then use the tickets to receive a chili sample. Lines are long, so be patient. Tips I've seen from other people is to bring a muffin tin to hold all your samples. It's a great event that could use improvement, therefore I will most likely not return.
