He pointed out an entry hole, odor, and burrow holes, stating there was "definitely a skunk." The skunk scent was ID'd under the porch as strongest by Steve's assistant. At one point, they even set a trap in our basement because the smell was so pungent. Before agreeing to pay, I asked, "What happens if you don't catch anything?" He replied, "That's never happened before." Based on that assurance, I paid the requested $500 cash upfront (no option to pay with card). He warned the skunk would be pregnant by April and that we'd have a bigger issue when she gave birth. That fear, combined with his guarantee, led us to move forward. Over two months, Steve and his assistant made approximately four visits and failed to catch anything. Our home was sprayed again during that time. His excuses shifted--from cold weather to springtime activity--but no results ever came. We also hired a $175 cleaning service after a second spray--an avoidable cost had the job been done correctly. The service was sloppy. On one visit, they brought inadequate bait and asked us for jelly. They left the open jar of jelly and a chicken tender bag on our patio, which were rummaged through overnight. At one point, I suggested marshmallows (a method recommended by another trapper), but they refused, saying raccoons would eat it--this would create more work for them with trapping. We have since installed cameras that now show abundant wildlife activity--raccoons, foxes, groundhogs, and squirrels. All small animals they should have been catching but didn't. They missed appointments, failed to follow up, and didn't return calls unless we reached out. We should have known after the first interaction, when we had agreed to touch base via phone at 3 PM before he came over to our home. By 3:40, I hadn't heard from him and texted to ask if we were still on. He didn't arrive until several hours later. After 2 months of no progress, Steve reluctantly agreed to refund $350--but that doesn't absolve him of the full $500 owed. He claimed he was keeping $150 because we "used the traps." The equipment stayed only because he failed to finish the job. Despite promising $350, he initially left only $300 in our mailbox. He said he'd bring the remaining $50 on April 21, but didn't. He eventually did bring us the remaining $50, late, citing "an emergency with his dog." We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, who reached out to Steve on our behalf. He failed to respond within the allotted 14 days and further action is pending.

I then proceed to contact Allegheny Health Department, who told me to NEVER EVER THROW A BAT OUT if found in the house, they (AHD) then came to pickup the bat and sent it for rabies lab testing within an hour, FREE OF CHARGE. Then got a call from Allegheny Health Department 2 days later telling me that the bat was tested positive for rabies and I had to take the series of rabies vaccines. Lesson learned, Steel City Pest Control & Wildlife Removal seems to have no idea what NOT TO DO with bats, gives out bad recommendations, and charge an exorbitant amount of money just to "throw the bat out". During that year I was sold of service that was supposed to cover certain insects according to one person but then according to another it isn't. I had mice and I was told various things from various employees who tried various methods it took six months for them to even find where they were coming in when one guy came in and found it in five minutes... There's no proper training there is no good communication this is definitely a mill of a company that works at high volume for profit and does not care about your personal issues or problems. When I reach out to them are getting back in just three months after service stops after one of the employees told me the holes they were using inside the house were permanent fix which they were not and I have since verified even the company says they were not but because they don't train their employees the customer suffers by being told misinformation every corner of the way. More alarmingly they used chemicals that were not pet safe when one person said their pet the manager came and said no they should've never used that... Additionally, they hung flypaper to get rid of the flies caused by the dead mice that they weren't finding and subsequently attracted more flies I didn't know that this was a problem so one of the managers came out. It shouldn't take one of the managers coming out six or seven months into your treatment to finally get the ball rolling correctly. When I reach out to them with all these issues all I wanted was them to have a supervisor or manager get back to me regarding my service to ensure that if I hired this company again That this job would be done right and I would not have issues and to receive clarity because of all the misinformation I received from the employees and they were not even willing to do that without charging before I restarted service. I would avoid them altogether and I hope this cost more money than it would've cost them just to send someone out to make me feel comfortable hiring and get. A few minutes later I received a follow-up call offering an inspection for $150, potentially if he was already in the area, and only "if it was worth it to me," as he still believes this is a non-issue. I'm not willing to pay simply to have someone assess a problem they have already concluded does not exist without ever seeing it.
