Over the years, I've been a frequent visitor to Noe's Nest in Noe Valley, SFO, until now it feels like a second home. I love that each room has a different character and that every wall is covered with an eclectic collection of Sheila Ash's personal family portraits, odd and unusual items from the far corners of the earth, and even some fine pieces of art. The sumptuous breakfast with a wide range of hot and cold items, and no limits on portions, is another delight. Meeting other interesting guests at breakfast gives it the warm feel of and old time boarding house. Best of all is proprietress Sheila herself, who greets each visitor, wears flamboyant clothing, and is famous in San Francisco for her charitable work and ability to find [and sometimes create] the best parties. read more

Wow! What an incredible experience! We arrived earlier than our check in time and thought maybe she would let us leave our luggage so we could grab a quick bite to eat. She said yes absolutely, come in, and are you hungry for breakfast. We ate a beautiful breakfast and she gave us a tour of her magical Victorian home. It was filled with fabulous artwork, artifacts, and memories. She was dressed in a 1920's flower dress with a big furry hat. So fashionable. We got to talking more about how she was a stylist and had many unique vintage pieces. She offered to show me her incredible collection of vintage dresses and hats and I wound up purchasing a few dresses that were so unique and in perfect condition. Surprisingly weird, eccentric and wonderful Victorian B&B. We had the garden room which was so private with a nice little kitchen and table area with views out to a beautiful backyard garden. Sheila and her staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed 5 nights so loved the breakfast the first couple of mornings then wished for something new. Agree with comment about switching to cotton sheets...our fitted sheet kept coming off. read more

Noe's Nest proved to be a wonderful place for a bridal shower. My guests loved the inviting and warm decor, the delicious brunch, and the beauty and peacefulness of the garden. Sheila and her staff made sure the table looked lovely, and the brunch had a wonderful variety of foods, including frittata, French toast, smoked salmon, breads, and fruit. My wife and I decided to stay at a B&B while visiting our son and his wife in Noe Valley, San Francisco for a week over Thanksgiving. We chose Noe's Nest and were not disappointed in the least. This was a fun chance to stay in a historical Painted Lady! The location is great. Dolores Park, Valencia Street restaurant district and the vibrant 24th Street Noe Valley shopping area are all mere blocks away. It was close to BART and Muni, though a slightly uphill walk from 24th Street BART, but I think not too much of a hike for someone traveling with luggage from the airport. The building is beautiful, with an amazing, almost secret garden-like back yard. Antique furniture and quirky decorations add character. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom included shower and a "smart" toilet, plus a towel warmer. There were several other guests, but the room itself was very quiet. Sheila, the owner, is a lovely host and very interesting. Noe, the manager makes a tasty and varied breakfast. This was a special vacation that I would repeat in a heartbeat. Maybe not the best for people who struggle with stairs. read more

My seven year old found bloody syringes in the room.. and knives So obviously they don't clean properly, the smoke alarm wasn't even attached The breakfast horrible and who wants salmon for breakfast. The owner is a nice lady, but this was the most horrible place I've ever stood at. It was dusty and stinky, I really wanted to like this place. . I should have stuck with a regular hotel. read more

We had a wonderful time staying in Shelia's gorgeous B&B. This 129 year old Victorian house is a breath of fresh air and a museum of its own. Shelia is a very gracious hostess and she went out of her way to be caring and loving. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and the surrounding neighborhood is safe to walk around and explore. There are good restaurants to eat nearby. My boyfriend and I were there for Valentine's weekend and Shelia was in the spirit of Valentine's with all her decorations. The Venetian room was very clean and comfortable. We had so much fun. Thank you Shelia for a wonderful experience! We will return. ::)) Also, pet friendly. Wow! Such an amazing, and wondrous place! Lovely antique furniture, but with the myriad of photos/paintings, and objet-d'art it has a time-less, laid-back, eclectic feel. I stayed in the Venetian room. It is beautifully decorated, and has a very nice bathroom( bonus:heated seat toilet/bidet!) The owner's graciousness and style is felt in every nook and corner of the house, and in the lovely garden ( complete w/ a wine/temple/gazebo. Breakfast was delicious, and quite a spread! I strongly recommend staying here. I was here for four nights. It was clean and convenient. The location is amazing with lots of great restaurants and easy travel to the downtown. It's an Authentic place to stay at with a lot of attention to detail. They make such an effort to ensure you have a personalized experience. I was glad I met Sheila (the owner) whom I found to be an extraordinary woman. It was so nice of her to give me a grand tour of the house and the fantastic rooms they have. Appealing on the outside, but not so inside. Some one has traveled a lot and collected all manner of things that do not fit together. Its a hodge pod! Lot of stairs and stairs especially to the Suite room. Breakfast was a disaster for me. I requested, when I reserved the room, scrambled egg whites, that request never was activated.The Cook was not told about it. The pancakes were burnt etc/ All in all I would never stay there again OR recommend it to any one else. MNW read more

Just returned from a vacation to San Francisco and a fabulous stay at Noe's Nest. From the minute you arrive owner, Sheila Ash, is on hand to welcome you to her beautiful Victorian home. Inside the rooms are filled with unique, wonderful pictures and antiques all curated by Sheila herself. Each room has its own charm and personality. The beds are comfortable and Sheila's breakfast is delicious. Her vegetable frittata is worth the trip! The outside garden is so welcoming and even has a private wine room! Sheila is always ready with lists of restaurants and sights to see. She goes above and beyond and treats her guests like family! The owner is self absorbed. When checking in, the owner will not stop talking about her self the entire self. I had to politely wait an hour to even be shown my room. I spoke to some of the employees and they said they were treated unjustly as Sheila is abusive towards them. Think mommies dearest. I will never go there again. read more

I actually live in San Francisco, needed a little getaway but couldn't leave town, so spent a night at Noe's Nest with my partner as a treat. We had a great time! It's on a fairly busy street, in a charming old Victorian. Once inside, it's pretty peaceful with a great backyard garden, HEATED wine and game room, and lots of charming garden statues. Inside, it's almost like a museum, with a large collection of artwork, photos, memorabilia- FASCINATING- if you are lucky, Sheila will be there to give you a tour. The house is beautiful, Victorian- all the rooms are unique. We were in the Venetian Room, which felt both old and European, but also was very comfortable- GREAT bed/mattress, but also had impressive amenities- a towel warmer and bidet, big flatscreen smart tv, wifi, nice thick towel. We had dinner just down the street, but it's located between two great neighborhoods with just about any kind of dining option you might want. But eat breakfast there! No need to go anywhere- you will find an array of savory and sweet items, frittatas, fresh fruits, pastries, pancakes, spreads, jams, cheese and even some smoked fish. Very satisfying, and the staff was warm and friendly. If you are looking for a comfortable, fun, quintessential San Francisco experience, this is the place for you. I am giving this 3 stars for a few reasons. Sheila is very nice and welcoming as a host, the breakfast was good, and the place is cozy. However, the room was not exactly as pictured and the sheets were stained. There was a loud holiday dinner directly outside of our door when we went back to the room to sleep and could not due to the volume of loud dinner guests (not the B&B guests but friends of the host) and additional live music that we were not informed of prior to visit. Also woke up early each morning because breakfast was right outside our door. I will attach a photo of the proximity about 1.5 ft between the breakfast/dinner table and the Masquerade bedroom for your reference. I do think a different room on a higher floor may have had a better experience. Updated per management comment- It was noted that we were not comfortable with the loud music and people directly outside our room door at the time and made clear that we had come back to get rest. read more

The attached bathroom was nice also. I loved that we could see similar houses across the street from our window and walk to a lot of good restaurants. I discovered Noe's Nest about five years ago. I have stayed there many times over the years, but only recently had the good fortune to have an extended stay. I was made to feel at home--remarkably so--and I can't imagine being that comfortable away from home anywhere else. That is what prompted me to finally write a review. I remember my first visit to Noe's Nest. It is a beautiful building, but modestly unmarked. However, the front window was whimsically decorated for the current season. It always attracts a lot of attention from passersby. Looking at the window you can tell that the place is warm, inviting, and fun. At that first breakfast, and at many other breakfasts after that, I was struck by the life of the place. The cook at the time was a charming Hispanic lady, the guests were chatting with each other, and staff would stop by the kitchen and interact with the guests. It was lovely, friendly scene that went up another level when the owner arrived--but more on her later. I have stayed in all eight rooms at some point. Each has its own character and special charm. However, my favorites are the View room, for obvious reasons; the Sheila Chapeau, for its nice big view window and balcony; and the Cabana Room. During my extended stay, I stayed in the Cabana Room on the lower level. It is my favorite of the rooms for its adjacency to the garden and wine temple, the small kitchenette, separate entrance, and breakfast adjacency! All rooms have unique showers, some with lumbar jets, and there are other bathroom amenities like heated towel racks and bidets in some rooms. The rooms are always supplied with a generous supply of tissues, which my allergies are often grateful for. All have extremely comfortable beds. But one of the main features of Noe's Nest is owner Sheila Ash. She is a genuine San Francisco character, one of those people who has made San Francisco the remarkable town it is. Sheila can dress quite outrageously, and breakfast guests always look forward to seeing the outfit of the day. The entire place is filled with photos and memorabilia from her extensive life, and she will gladly give you a tour and share some memories with you. On occasion, there are events are Noe's Nest, and that adds to the life of the place. Guests are often invited to participate in the festivities, which at times can resemble one of the sophisticated parties you see in a Woody Allen movie, with beautiful, well-dressed people partaking in tasty food and delicious wine, and with many talented guests that will enliven the party with a song or two at the piano or other instrument. I have enjoyed every stay at Noe's Noes and have a deep affection for the place. I think any discerning traveler would enjoy a stay there. read more

We called last minute and Sheila was nice enough to offer us a room called "the view." Has a beautiful view of the city and nice buildings around the area. The sheets were soft, the pillows were fluffy and the bed was comfortable. The house was gorgeous with a lot of neat things to look at along with a fantastic backyard. My daughter and I stayed in The Venetian Room. This was the first time I have ever stayed at a B&B. What a perfect san Francisco stay! Sheila, Ellen, and Cindy were all lovely, hospitable, and like ol' friends. They were fantastic with my 11 year old who loved looking at all the eclectic pieces and artwork decorating this lovely Victorian. The breakfast in the morning was always warm, inviting, and very tasty. The garden is tranquil and peaceful, though I didn't get a chance to use it much on this trip. I planned on staying a week, but ended up spending three months at Noes Nest. The property is beautiful, and full of great artifacts from around the world, storytelling the owners life. Sheila was a fantastic host, greeting me with a breakfast spread each morning. She went out of her way to accommodate me, and include me in her dinners & gatherings. The property is located in arguably the best part of the city; close to parks, cafes, restaurants, night-life, etc. She also has a wonderful garden out back to enjoy. GET SOME LOCAL VIBE. This beautiful, restored dwelling offers quiet and pleasant stays that are just a Lyft away from anything. Sheila is a super sweet and friendly host who puts out a nice spread in the morning--loved the smoked salmon and the French toast--but disappears quickly. I only saw her and others when I needed them, otherwise, it felt like I had rented a room in a community house. Decor is a mix of fun, funky, and the story of her family, all interesting to see. In the rear, an outdoor staircase leads to a garden sitting area for socializing, smoking and drinking. My room had a bathroom, but not all rooms do. I prefer my own bathroom. I would stay there again as the price was quite reasonable, but mostly I would do it because it's lovely and so is the host. read more

Incredible host and very comfortable room. The gardens were unbelievable!!!!! We stayed in the view room and the name says it all!!! Most incredible view of the city I've ever seen!!!!!! Breakfast was delicious and the art in the home was amazing. Would definitely stay here again if I'm back in sf. Very clean and had all amenities we could ever need and more.
