We asked our cab driver where locals like to eat. She recommended this place and we were skeptical because it's on the strip. However, we were pleasantly surprised. Food is made fresh to order. My pulpo (octopus) was a bit overcooked and was a little chewy but the flavors were there on point. My husband had the special catch of the day, his dish was delicious and perfect. Prices are very reasonable and are not hiked up like other places in the area. They provide tortillas and chopped pickled habaneros upon request which was a must for us. The check comes in pesos but they also include the dollar conversion. I recommend you pay with pesos because they add a conversion fee which is anywhere between $5-7. We were scheduled to go with a large party in June 2025. They say they will refund your money if your ship can't port. Well our ship couldn't port due to high wind. We reached out the same day and they said they would refund my large deposit. It is now Feb 2026 and I still haven't received my refund. I have reached out many times and they said I would get it but now they will not respond to text messages or emails. I do not recommend this place as they are not honest! read more

This is a nice beach close to the cruise ship port. My husband and son were doing a fishing trip with the Western Caribbean Fly Fishing School, and they leave from this beach/restaurant. My daughter decided she didn't want to fish, so we spent the day at the beach and restaurant instead. There is an "all inclusive" option where you have access to the beach, water toys, and open bar and AYCE. They cited me $50/adults and $25/kid. However, as we had already paid for the fishing trip and therefore our lunch, and I knew we'd only be at the beach, I opted to pay a la carte for whatever drinks and snacks we consumed, and they agreed to let us use a couple shaded beach chairs. The sand is white, and the water is clear. You can walk all the way to the waterway without the water going above your waist. It's a nice beach. The drinks we received were icy cold, and they served up the best guacamole I've had. Service was attentive, and they are truly bilingual. Also, when my son caught 9 fish, they fried them all up and served them to us with rice and salad. That was part of the Fish2Dish tour that we booked. The fish was delicious -- the batter they use is light and just the right amount of salty. My kids don't usually agree to eat fish, not even fried fish, but they ate up all of this fish. Best seafood place I have been to in some time. We had the tostada with ceviche mixto, spiny lobster with butter, garlic, white wine and blended it with the alajillo, and pulpo with garlic butter. Wonderful beach food with a wide selection on the menu. (Pasta, salads, tacos, ceviche) They also take Visa and MasterCard which is a huge plus. I had the bbq shrimp and I enjoyed it however it must be peeled. That is a sloppy job when covered in sauce! (A side plate was provided just for that). It came with a nice side salad and rice. The chicken burrito was filling. It had beans, rice, chicken and guacamole. The chicken quesadilla was the second favorite of our beach eats here. Our group had dinner here one night based on a recommendation from our dive shop owner.....we liked it so much we came back the next night too! I'm stingy with 5 stars, but great service, great food at low low prices trumps most. Pass on mixed drinks and stay with bottled beer or the local fruit drinks. It ain't Chesapeake Bay, Maryland Blue Crab (which really mostly comes from Texas now), BUT these Garlic Crabs are mighty tasty without the Old Bay! After looking over reviews, we decided to give Nohoch Kay a try and we were not disappointed! We were greeted by Yrebie and Mario and explained all the wonderful things they had to offer. We had lounge chairs with umbrella on a nice quiet beach. They checked on us every 20 min or so to see if we needed drinks or food. We had lunch in their restaurant, which had a small limited menu, but it was fresh and tasted good. Restrooms were clean, transportation in nice cabs, and service was great! read more

The food was good. The problem comes with the bill not reflecting what was described and ordered. We were told 3 times before ordering that what we were to have was Grouper, yet when the bill arrived, the price was increased by 100 pesos. When questioned, we were told what was served was Mero, not Grouper. We were not advised of this while ordering or eating. It was only when money needed to change hands that we were told. We were never asked if it would be OK to serve Mero (with the price difference) instead. This type of shady business is what left us with a bad taste for the restaurant. We travel here at least twice yearly and will not recommend to eat here for business dealings alone. read more

Stopped here while on a cruise. This was our second time here and again, it did not disappoint. Staff is friendly. Food is good. Bathrooms are clean. You have a great view of the beach and a nice breeze blows into the dining room. Again, I'd recommend the Nohoch Kay Special. Their seafood dishes in general are very good. In our cruise ship, we did some research on where we wanted to go. Immediately, my husband knew he wanted to go here. We showed the name to the taxi driver and they immediately knew where it was. However, the driver took us to a different location. That place was miserable--crowded & expensive. My husband was determined to enjoy. So after we downed our margs, we found another taxi driver & told him we want to go here. We arrived & were soooooo pleased that we decided to move from our previous location. There were minimal people, communal toys for sand fun, shallow warm water, & great food & drinks. The service was also wonderful. We ordered a ton of food & drinks that cost us a total of $63 USD. Whether you are a local or tourist wondering the streets of Mahahual this place is a must. The food, service and environment is exactly what you would expect from a restaurant located on beautiful Costa Maya. As an appetizer ordered their chips and salsa (pico de gayo) and could tell the onions, tomatoes where freshly prepared. We also ordered mixed fish civeche (medium size) and a few tacos; if you are hungry, it perfect since their portions are bigger than most. We finished this meal with a pair of delicious 1800 margaritas. Everything in this place tasted authentic and fresh, nothing seemed pre-made, premixed or artificial. If it wasn't because our cruise ship was leaving port, we would have spent the entire day/evening hanging out listening to live music and sipping on margaritas. read more

Everything is extremely fresh, the restaurant is right in front of the beach, the waiters are very friendly, I mean what more could you ask for? You guys I don't even wanna leave. Their dedos de pescado are like fish and chips but better, and it's probably my favorite thing right now. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the area because it's worth it. Did the all inclusive option here while in port on Carnival Cruise. Easy taxi ride there and back. The weather was terrible, big storm came through, but the staff did everything they could to keep everyone dry and happy. Excellent customer service. Shrimp ceviche was great! The drinks were good and the tequila shots did their job. The water was not awesome due to sea grass and they even gave us the option of not staying when we arrived because of it, but it was not there fault. Overall everything was clean. Great day in Mahahual. We reserved bikes from Coral Go online. They met us just outside the cruise port with ebikes, helmets, and a bottle water. We explored all morning while it was still quiet and not too hot. Had a great lunch and beers at Nohoch Kay, and then spent the afternoon in their lounge chairs. Topped it off with an hour deep tissue massage deep from Veronica for $25. Top quality massage! read more

My group on a cruise booked an all-inclusive excursion here. We had to take a taxi from the port where we were taken to a few blocks away and made the rest of the trip on foot. There was live music and the customers were the focus of the staff's attention. The food was incredible and the drinks were plentiful. The beach is beautiful and there are kayaks included. I had the mixed seafood soup which was amazing, I also tried my husbands shrimp cocktail which was also great. My son ordered the dish named Nohoch Kay which is stuffed fish filet, he said, "it's the best dish I've ever had." The piñadas and fresadas are very refreshing non alcoholic drinks.
