SO here's the real deal with Nooklyn in case you're wondering and want the real low down: I thought long and hard about making this post, but ultimately decided to go for it in hopes of raising awareness and helping others not finding themselves in complete nightmarish situations. Nooklyn positions themselves as having a different approach to renting apartments than the "other" brokers you might encounter in NYC. I chuckle reading their "about us" section on their site which states transparency and trust among their "values". However, be weary when working with them. The apartments they post most likely are very deceiving, coming with major caveats, and their brokers can be very untrustworthy. What you see isn't always what you get. I rented an apartment during the height of covid, when I didn't feel safe going in person to view an apartment. The broker (Mike Moskovitz) offered a virtual tour. He blatantly and soullessly lied about nearby construction, ensuring me this would be a quiet apartment. Upon moving in, it was a total and complete nightmare. I had to pay a fortune to break that lease. Avoid avoid avoid!!! Fair warning. read more

This was by far the best experience I have ever had finding an apartment in New York! The platform Nooklyn uses makes the process of submitting an application and closing the apartment you want fast and easy. But the platform was nothing compared to the personal attention and help I got from my agent Richard. This man was available morning noon and night for both me and my roommate. He represented the building management needs effectively, helping to communicate to me what exactly they were looking for in a tenant. At every turn, Richard made my experience fast and simple. Give this man a raise because he really knows what he's doing and I would definitely come back to him the next time I'm in need of an apartment. 10/10 would recommend Nooklyn and Richard to all of my friends. read more

Avoid. Bad people, bad business. But, to be fair, here are the pros of my experience with Nooklyn: I have an apartment. Cons: The "agents" (few actual agents work there, most are sales people who let you think they are agents) are rude. You have to reach out many times to get to see a place. And when you do, it is on their terms. Our salesperson, Rob, didn't know anything about the unit - we asked what was the square footage, is the place run by an individual or company, when will the renovations be finished, all of which he just kind of shrugged about with a "dunno." We did decide, after doing some of our own research, to move forward. We liked the neighborhood and the place worked - we did not love Nooklyn, but we figured that didn't matter because we aren't living with them... So began the worst of it. Nooklyn DEMANDING a deposit months before move in, so they would take the apartment off their site. I received text messages at 2am about this. So we paid them $2,000. Guess what never happened? They never took the listing down. And then - the place was a mess total construction zone. They PROMISED us it would be done before move in, and when we asked for a walkthrough to see the progress before lease signing, Rob and Andrew, the "managing partner" (that one is in quotes because I cannot verify that anyone would give this person a job of that caliber) would not let us see it. And then they threatened to take the deposit back if we didn't sign the lease. The lease was written incorrectly, as it didn't include a rider about the construction or about my dog, and I had to request it be redone. After the lease was signed, Rob asked for my roommate's guarantor information again, which she reminded him he already had. And when we needed to get keys, Rob was unprofessional about when we could pick up the keys at the Nooklyn office, telling us that 7pm was impossible, there would be no one there and the receptionist isn't paid very much and its not her job to give us keys. So, that was awkward. ANYWAY -- I actually had to delay my move in (and change airline tickets $$$) because the place was so unfinished and dangerous for my dog. The totally finished apartment that Andrew and Rob promised us was as follows upon move in: - No ac or heat - No hot water - No dishwasher (they did let us know about this) - No outlet covers - No thermostat - No intercom - Gaping holes in the walls - No blinds - No doorstops - No towelracks or toilet paper holers in bathrooms - Missing bathroom lights And that is just inside the apartment - the listing promised laundry, and we've been here for about three months and there is NO laundry in building. There is also no heat, no thermostat, no intercom, no blinds, no towelracks et al and missing lights. And when I say this, I mean there are wires dangling out of the walls where these things should be. The whole unit is under construction STILL - three months in!!! Plumbers in and out until after 10pm, and Nooklyn "agents" and potential victims checking out the units at all hours. When we told Nooklyn of the issues, and requested a finders fee, they refused and told us we got a good deal and they owe us nothing, even though they are in clear violation of the NY Real Estate law and the lease they provided. I am currently taking this issue to the BBB and have an open claim. Next, I will be bringing it to the department of state. If you are looking at that 3 bedroom in Greenpoint, message me - I'll intro you directly to the landlord so you don't have to pay Nooklyn (its not an exclusive listing.) If you do want to use Nooklyn, GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. Emails, texts, etc. Make sure the lease is correct (we actually had a version with the wrong address, which Nooklyn just "LOLed"). Oh, and good luck. This company is an example of New York City Real Estate at its worst, taking advantage of Customers, treating them terribly, lying to property owners... seriously, avoid them a find a more reputable company, who can probably get you into Nooklyn's units anyway. read more

My current roommates and I had met with Erick after being tired of searching places to live in Brooklyn back in November '16. He was helpful before and after signing the lease, took us to a few listings under their umbrella of apartments for rent at the time, and was also very familiar with the area. What attracted me first to the company was the fact that their website was intuitive and well-catered to the demographic that you see now living in the gentrifying parts of BK. The photos of the listings are all clear and depict the places well, plus I am sure the company itself chooses listings based on what their want their target market to purchase/rent. Erick helped us search & visit a few listings in the areas we were looking into and he did his best to answer our questions. When we were signing the lease and providing our documents, he was very flexible and easy to talk to; a lot of the business itself was done in a casual way so we felt less pressured. The Manhattan Ave office is also structured to be inviting and very casual. We also did not have a broker fee. What stood out to me was the fact that Erick also took the time to help us with some issues we had regarding a tenant in our apartment months after signing the lease. He went out of his way to provide us with advice and any information he had regarding tenant laws and legal rights. Overall a great experience working with Nooklyn! read more

I was told to pay a $3100 (one month rent) as deposit for a commercial space to prepare the proposal for the landlord and end up with receiving a $3000 refund check when I didn't even get the space!!! That's not the way how you make money!! There are many good real estate broker company out there who don't charge you ridiculous fee without informing you in the beginning. Please !!! Looking at all the great reviews we must have had the one super extremely bad experience with these guys ever. We have a combined experience of living in New York of over 25 years and this one topped it all. 'Boomer' was our guy and we even gave him the benefit of letting him show us a about 12 apartments (which by the way were standard a minimum of a few 100 bucks over our already pretty hefty budget) Boomer was also always a minimum of 45 minutes late. My girl and I are both professionals working in the city and we were taking time off to accommodate his viewing windows. Our time is just as valuable as his, but hey. Long story short, we simply got completely mis-informed over the place we ended up in, never have my girl or I been so misled. "It'll be done in 2 weeks" (we are almost 2 months in and the building is still a total building pit) The apartment itself is also still not even remotely done - and it took until yesterday to get our signed lease back. When Boomer sold us on this apartment one of his main selling points was: "we have been working with this landlord / owner for many many years and we have a lot of pull with this guy + he's great." Literally the day after he had me sign the lease he was all "don't talk to me, talk to the landlord, not my problem" Awesome Boomer, much appreciated man, real tough dude. My girlfriend is 4 weeks out from giving birth to our first child so we can't really break out lease if we wanted to. Because we would want nothing more then to get the hell out of here. Right now we are SO UP S* CREEK because of Nooklyn, there really are no words for it. *NOTE: the place I am talking about is 22 Catherine Street, East W'burg - Beware! read more

Erick and Heather are both fantastic! I stumbled upon the Nooklyn office one day while checking out Greenpoint as a potential place to move. Erick greeted me warmly and honestly, getting a sense for what my wife and I were looking for. He kept on the research and enlisted Heather, who took the time over the course of a week or so to shuttle me around to a few different great properties. These two really know Williamsburg and Greenpoint (and a lot more, but these were the areas I wanted to concentrate on). Heather's husband owns a couple of great local businesses right by the Nooklyn office--the whole thing feels like a very real, transparent, locally-approved place staffed by good people who respect your time and use it to spirit you through New York's crazy rental market, educating every step of the way. I recently submitted a deposit for 17 Monitor St 4N Shortly thereafter, without receiving notification about being accepted or even signing a lease I got a welcome email from the "management company". It was from a guy whose signature and email was solely "Benny", no last name or reference as to what address or contact information they had. It was largely unprofessional and included a word attachment going loosely and ambiguously over all guidelines. The attachment also stated our move in date as JULY 1st when it was JULY 18th and we had negotiated to move in on July 28th as promised by the broker. The email came from "bennymanagement@gmail.com" and both of our emails even marked it as spam/unknown sender. Naturally, we were thrown off by the unprofessionalism in our initial experience with this management firm and we inquired more about them. We asked for reference of other buildings they managed and got none. We asked to meet with Benny in his Williamsburg office and were told this was not a possibility. We reviewed the Yelp reviews, it was around 5 -all negative except one which was clearly a fake profile with an online miscellaneous model headshot. Naturally, we felt uncomfortable and when requesting further info and references our broker became really rude and demanding via text message. read more
