I mostly saw the PA, who was excellent, and I was confident that my surgeon would do an excellent job. Now at 11 weeks out, things are going very well. Their PT center is awesome. As for the center itself, yes, it's a large place that runs efficiently (meaning yes, you might feel rushed), but you also need to advocate for yourself. Show up early for your appointments. Make a list of your concerns or questions ahead of time and take it to your appointment. Follow up with phone calls. If you want to see the Dr. again, make another appointment. I will say that there are room for improvements at the clinic. I found the patient portal leaves much to be desired. The parking lot is often full (allow time to find a parking spot). Most of the receptionists are very pleasant, but yes, like anywhere else, there might be a couple who don't seem to be enjoying their job. Trying to make or cancel an appointment sometimes puts you in a long phone queue, but you can request a call back so you don't wait on hold. I've always gotten a call back within 15 minutes or so. Still, I feel like it's an excellent orthopedic center.

I visited Dr. Shah at the Slocum Center in Eugene, Oregon for problems with my knees. I was told by…read moreseveral friends, family, and Eugene residents this was the place to visit for repair to my knee. I had recently blown my knee out 3 days prior to my encounter with Dr. Shah. I had surgery on this knee 12 years prior and in the last 3 years it had proceeded to get worst and worst. During my appointment was was told and showed via X-rays that I have arthritis in both my knees but it was much more progressive in the injured knee. I was also shown that I have bone spurs in that knee. After this explanation, I was then told that my weight was the only contributing factor in this and I needed to lose weight. He also suggested that I look into gastric bypass surgery. After these two factors were mention, I was then told basically "deal with it." I found Dr. Shah's recommendation unprofessional and regardless if I weighed 100 pounds or 400 pounds, I have an issue with my knee and I'm paying him to fix it. I wouldn't recommend this doctor to anyone. I don't care how wonderful of a surgeon he may be, his bedside manner was awful. Making positive suggestions to his patients would have been much more received. Being treated like a human and not like livestock, would be my first suggestion.

They finally called me back after 5 days. They can't be bothered to return calls regarding questions or concerns you may have after surgery. I had to ask for a patient advocate before I got help. And yet again I wait and wait and wait for a call back. I have been to Slocum Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in the past for 2 total hip replacements and they were Wonderful! As was Riverbend Hospital. If I ever need an Orthopedic Doctor again I will NEVER go to OMG'S again. And forget Mckenzie Willamette hospital ECKY. Slocum is the Best!

Asked "Brick" about a medication for my knee pain. He started screaming at me and stormed out of the room. The whole staff rushed over to see what was going on. I never did figure out what was going on with him. Brick has no bedside manner or personality. My mantra now is - never go to a surgeon that you can get into right away.
