Do not patronize this sleazy shop. They took my cardigan to which I had pined embellishments around the buttonholes (testing to see that they still opened/closed) and asked her to sew it in place. I came back a week later, fifteen minutes before the requested time and it was not done. I returned and they needed additional time, seemingly quickly sewing the whole front in place so that the buttons were unusable. When I complained she first stated that my request was impossible (but never called to discuss this,) then changed her story to say that this over -the-head sweater mode (which now made the sweater completely unusable with a dress,) was what I had initially requested. At home I did the work myself, so obviously her "expertise" was a sham. Now calling the Better Business Bureau to obtain my money back. read more

Angelica did a great job on my dress! I had ordered a dress final sale from a designer that I love. I had never ordered a more fitted dress (2,4,6, etc instead of small, medium, large) from the company so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. Sure enough, it didn't fit. I'm on the shorter side so I had the dress hemmed and the shoulder straps shortened. Hem with lining alteration: $26 Strap shortening: $22 Total: $48 I'll be going to back to her for any future alterations I have. The work was completed in a week and I love my dress! My second trip to Nora Alterations was just a easy and worry free as the first. Both times for me had been for uniform pants, but Angelica Vargas real specialty is wedding dresses. She proudly shows off her work with pics displayed on the glass foyer as you walk in. You can see the brides beaming with their approval at making their not so fitting dress, now tailored to their contours. Not only does she pay intimate attention to the smallest detail, but she also has a sense of style which I was made aware in the several different ways she could tailor my pants: Cuffed or creased, straight or boot, etc. They are cash only, but you may pay by check if you prepay. Typical turnaround is seven to ten days. They also do repair work and worked on all kinds of weird things. A pair of ballet shoes? No idea what that was for, but it was something they had done for someone! Of course Angelica's nimble hands will ensure a perfect cut and sew and her years of experience makes this process easy. read more

Walked in at 5:05 on a Friday evening. The man behind the counter was not friendly at all. We told him we needed an alteration on a dress and needed it by July 28 for a wedding. Proceeded to rudely tell us that the person who could do the alteration on our dress was on vacation until the end of the month. When I asked if he could recommend someone else, he said he didn't know anyone. How can he not know other tailors? He clearly wasn't getting our business because his tailor was out of town and they could meet our needs. Why was it hurting him to recommend someone else? Just rude. Not his fault that his tailor is out of town and we have time constraints, however, he just lost a potential return customer because of his condescending tone and unhelpful rudeness. read more

Did a great job on the 2 pairs of pants I had done. Lady running the place gives you her advice on how they fit before she takes them to be altered, which is nice. She told me I did not need my pants altered because that is the "London style" which I thought was pretty funny. Since I'm more about comfort than style I went ahead and got half and inch added to the length of the pants. needless to say they fit perfectly now and they did an awesome job. Just took 2 more pairs back today. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. I've had two dresses altered here. The dresses were altered OK (not the best job, but fine), but I have some other issues with this place. One is that I was having issues with my bra strap peeking out of a dress. They said they could fix this by sewing little strings/snaps into the dress straps. They needed 15 min or so to do this. When I came back, I paid, including for the extra snaps. Imagine my surprise when I am getting dressed with all the bridesmaids the day of the wedding and find out the dress had those snaps the WHOLE TIME! My fault I suppose for not catching that, but I got duped into paying for something they didn't even do! The thing that really ticked me off was that the lady commented on my weight the second time I brought a dress in. She asked me about losing weight for the wedding. She even asked me if I would wear Spanx to the wedding. I am not joking. This didn't even have any bearing on how the dress would be altered. I am not even overweight- my stomach isn't completely flat, but I am not fat. Regardless of my actual weight, that's totally inexcusable! And this happened on both occasions that I tried the dress on there! There is no way I would go back to this place after being insulted like that. read more

I have taken several pants here to be shortened. The staff has been very friendly and the prices are reasonable. This is a family-owned establishment, and I always love to support local, family-owned businesses. They have always produced quality work. I'm 5'2" and have to have pretty much everything altered. I've trusted my clothes to Angelica for years. She does a great job. She can do the easy stuff, like hemming pants, but can also tackle hard jobs. I got a great deal on a very high quality pair of slacks but they were way to big - Angelica basically took them apart and remade them for me. I got a tailor-made pair of trousers! They did a fantastic job altering a silk dress I had purchased that was slightly ill-fitted. I came in with a preconceived notion of what changes needed to be made. The consultant at the front desk showed me what actually needed to be changed, which was of course different from what I thought. I was appreciative of their expert advice and the final product turned out perfect! Now I have a dress that fits my body to perfection. read more

I've taken many items--2 bridesmaid dresses, a semi-formal dress, and dress pants for work--to Nora Alterations and been very happy every time. Prices seem reasonable (although I didn't shop around) and the staff is very friendly. The turn-around time is quick, as well. I will continue to take my business here. read more

THE WORST!!!!!!!!! I have never had such a horrible experience at an alteration place in my life. I went there to get a zipper replaced on a dress, he was certain it would be an easy fix. $10 later they said it was good. I went to wear it for a wedding and I was late because it would not zip up and I had to wear another dress. I went to take it back and all they did was give me $5 back. I love this place because they do excellent work that does not break down. The one time that the zipper tore soon afterwards, they replaced it for free and I haven't had a problem with it since. They are also very upfront with costs and reality of what needs fixed so you can determine if it's worth it easily. I wish they took credit card, but given that many minor repairs are only a few dollars, I understand why they don't. Just remember that you can pay it in advance by check, but if you haven't paid it when you pick it up, it's cash only. read more

I had a little bit of a mixed experience with this shop. Expertise-wise, Angelica and her staff are good tailors. They have the skills to make alterations Price-wise, their prices are a little high. I've been to Alex Tailor shop in Castleton in the past. They do the same thing in a nicer atmosphere for less money. I also looked into the Perfect Stitch and they have more affordable prices. The only reason I decided to try out this tailor was because of the reviews I read here. In hindsight, I wish I had picked a different tailor I took my wedding dress there to have the sides taken in. After paying, I noticed a mistake in the alterations. Angelica refused to correct the error and asked me to pay full price a second time around before she would fix it. I left with my dress and I'll have to take it elsewhere to have their alterations altered. If you have other options, I would recommend you take your wedding dress elsewhere. But if they're the only choice you have, go for it. Just don't be naive like me and pay before you're 100% satisfied. read more

I was turned onto Nora Alterations when they were a little shop behind the Target in Nora. I have vowed never to hem a pair of pants again, mainly because they are so reasonable and do a fantastic job with great turn around time. It is well worth the $10 bucks you will spend. They have altered fancy dresses for me and repaired other items that I've gotten on sale/clearance. I would highly recommend them over any alterations place on the north side. read more
