I'm a graduate student not attending USC, and this facility has been great for studying and working on my thesis. I prefer the lower level which is a "quiet" space with plenty of tables and outlets (plus the restrooms are located there as well). Also, they have a Starbucks/Panda Express next door and vending machines outside when those are closed. The only "downside" if any would be the parking --but that's hard to criticize when I'm not actually a student there. It's $12 for parking all day in the lot (when not full) and street parking is $1/hour at meters close to Norris for 4 hours on Eastlake, and on Alcazar it's the same rate for 10 hours on the south side and FREE for ten hours on the north side! I want to thank the staff for allowing me to study here. I live in a studio and Elac library is to loud and the hours are not convenient. I was able to do my homework and study for exams. I am a loner. That means. I was able to walk to the ladies room and leave my expensive coding books, physiology, and Math books alone without worrying that someone will take them. I graduated in June 2020. Thank you I wish you could open longer hours so that I may study for my California State Board Exam. read more

You don't have to be a medical student or a pharmacy student to study here, or just hang out here. There are three floors to the library. The first floor study has a group study area, a computer area, and a few couches near the door. The second floor is home to the daunting medical books. There are also 10+ tables, a few individual desks, and 5 private study rooms that you can book to use ahead of time. There is also another computer lab up stairs. The basement is cold...but there are a number of tables there also, and individual tables that are hidden within the stacks. The bathrooms are also here too...just thought you'd like to know. What I love about this library is that there are outlets pretty much everywhere. There are 4 outlets on every table, and two at each individual cubicle area. The only place that has a scarcity of outlets is in the private study rooms. There is a LCD screen that you can connect your laptop to so you can project powerpoints on ....or if you want to project the show you're watching on Hulu. There is also a white board that you can use (you can check out expo pens downstairs). There is all this stuff in the rooms, but there are only two outlets...weird. The library is really quiet...obviously...aside from the group study area downstairs that can get a little loud. They allow drinks and snacks into the library...but honestly people bring in full on meals or whatever and they aren't typically stopped. Some people are asked to go outside though...just a warning. It can get packed around 11AM on weekdays. The number of people tends to fluctuate with class times and exam times. It isn't that busy on saturdays since parking isn't free....however SUNDAYS...it can get busy because street parking is free. So if you're looking for a quiet place to study, charge your phone/laptop, nap, or just sit (the chairs are comfortable btw)...Norris is the place to be. read more

This library is located on the USC health sciences campus. To get here, you need to be a USC student. Once inside, there is a vast array of resources, and a good place to study too. The place will give you the standard library experience. The general area is a quiet area, which I've never had a problem in. There are rooms up for reservation, but you'll need a group for that. Found in the same campus as this library is the medical school, pharmacy school, and the supporting administrative staff. Most folks who come here are from those schools, or from the Department of Preventive Medicine. Parking for this place can be found on the structure just across the street from HSC, or can be found on the surrounding streets. I suggest the former, as the latter can be a hectic task. read more

Excellent place to spend your day studying. There's three floors, so plenty of seats. And, actually, all kinds of seats from sofa for groups study or leisure reading to study box for those who want to lay 100% of their concentration on the books. High speed wifi, power outlet every where. No thing to complain, even your peers - usually medical students who just mind their business and having very good conduct. The only concern is parking - 10$/day, and that is what our buses are for! Or, just come on Sunday. read more

Good library! Plenty of outlets to plug your laptop in and friendly service at the counter. Not super aesthetically pleasing, but it's a good place to study. You can reserve rooms via the Norris website if you're a USC student where you can talk or study with friends, and there's a bunch of silent study areas. It can get a little stuffy here so just keep that in mind! But all in all free wifi and good place to get your work done. read more

I visited this library before I was a student here, so this review is probably long overdue. The first time I was here was for a field trip for my advanced anatomy class and we came to see the rare book collection. The librarians in charge of rare book acquisitions were so informative and showed us a variety of rare books. It was such a cool experience. Now as a usc grad student who has come here to study, this library is a great study place. It may seem small compared to some other libraries, but it does the job. There is a basement floor, the main floor with computers and the 2nd floor. The basement floor and 2nd floor have plenty of tables to study at and it is really quiet. The 2nd floor also has study rooms that you can reserve online for 2 hrs at a time. The library just redid their website, so using their resources has become so much easier. ..check it out! read more

I think it's time for me to review the crud out of this place! 5 stars, what can I say? IT'S AMAZING! Norris MEDICAL library is quiet, everyone is actually studying, and it is not on the actual usc campus but it's an extention of it. Cute little food court just 200 meters from the library. This library is unique to the other ones I've been to because it actually has small desks coming out of book cases...so people are actually sitting in front of the book cases studying. Small table but if you don't mind it, it gets the job done. For me I'm a sprawl out all my books kind of a girl. The bigger the desk the better. I like having all my materials in front of me so if I need to compare notes or gather more info, I won't have to dig around looking for it...I'll just have it sprawled out in front of me. There are outlets available in proximity to some tables, but I haven't had trouble yet. The tables closer to the walls have outlets, but the areas close to rhe book cases or tables in the middle of the room will be a challenge. There are 3 stories to this library. The first floor, second, and a basement. I usually go to the basement area because the first floor has more computers and bigger tables for group projects. People on the basement floor usually are just using their laptops or reading. I pay a lot for parking here. It's usually hard to park in the "all day-one price" lot because it's usually filled before 10am... so I opt for meter parking. It's $1 per hour all free after 8pm. I usually pay max $8 because I go crazy if I'm in the library for too long. I try to carpool with peeps to share the cost, but this library is where I get my shiz done, so for me it's worth it I've been here like 10 times already and only checked in a handful of times...but yeah...I'm gonna be coming here a lot if ever I need to study. I'm not a USC student, but I did come to Norris Library to study for MCATs and to get work done a few years ago. I live in Silver Lake so this place is really close and convenient especially on Sundays since there is free street parking. I like the fact there are lots of tables with outlets and free wi-fi. The library is well ventilated and it is usually quiet. They let you bring food. Just clean up after yourself so you don't attract any rodents or bugs. If you need to get work done, definitely check this place out. On the weekdays M-Th, this place opens late till 12 and I believe there is free street parking after 6 PM. So if you need a nice place to study, definitely check out the Norris Library. read more

I have spent many a Sunday in one of the best libraries open on a Sunday, open on any day really. Norris Library might not be the most modern of libraries but it makes up for it with its ergonomic chairs suitable to hours of reading and studying, study dungeon for this needing to get really nitty gritty with the books, decent book selection and long hours on Sunday. Anyone who needs a library like I do to get serious studying done would really do themselves a favor by coming here on a Sunday (when parking is free) or any day you can manage. I really want to review this place, because I've spent so many waking (and sometimes the opposite) hours of my life in this library that I almost feel obligated to. But there is absolutely nothing I can add that Tammy hasn't already covered. She nailed it and all I can do is agree. I'm only here on Sundays because of the free street parking. Because of that, my on-campus meal options are limited to vending machines (straight out the front door, down the stairs to the right; includes chips and coffee). But if you're willing to step away from campus for a while, there's a Jack-in-the-Box on N Mission Rd, near Zonal, and a few more options up and down Marengo St opposite the Medical Center, including a 24 hr McDonald's. read more

Since I work at the USC health sciences campus, I often stop by here when I need to get some reading done or some work done. This facility is supposed to be for medical and graduate students, but everybody has figured out that you can get in here without any ID card or pass. It's a nice quiet library, with three levels and plenty of medical references. They have free computers to use, but only if you're an employee or student because you need a login. There is free wireless and the bathrooms are relatively well-maintained. The biggest issue with this library is how crowded it gets around exam time, when it gets absolutely flooded with students. Unfortunately for me, the students here just don't seem to understand that a library should be a quite place. They show no qualms about talking out loud in the middle of the library, when the more polite option would be to go outside or get a private study room. Also everybody seems to bring food in here, which is nice if you want to bring a snack but some people decide to bring their entire home-cooked meal, make a mess and stink up the place. Do I use this library on a regular basis? Yes. Is it my preferred place to study? No it is not. But its located at work, so I often end up here. As I like to say, it gets the job done. read more

Wish I could give this library more stars, but unfortunately it is not what I expected at all being a USC library. It's only two stories, and for some reason it feels like 100 degrees in here...usually libraries blast their A/C. Definitely hard to get anything done if my hands are sweating all over my books and laptop as I type. There are better libraries in my area even if they close a couple hours earlier. I don't go to school here but I'm so grateful I can come study! The WiFi is slow at times but there's lots of space and super quiet. However the restrooms are disgusting and smell like they haven't been cleaned in a while. There's also no water bottle fillers which sucks when you're studying for 10 hrs. read more

I love libraries, especially when it belongs to a nice school. This one obviously belongs to USC's Medical School. The reason why I like libraries that are connected to schools is because they are much more quiet than public ones (no kids yelling or running around), more tables and chairs as well as outlets for your electronics. Public libraries have limited outlets, especially on the middle public tables. But to use their computers here, you must have a student ID, but feel free to use their wifi which is free. Once you walk in, to the right is a couple of computers for usage, then on your left there are fancy looking tables and chairs/sofas, etc. So comfy - seems like you can fall asleep in it. HEHE! All the way to the left there are two doors, one goes downstairs to the basement and one goes upstairs to more seating. I didn't get a chance to go upstairs to explore and whatnot but I did go to the basement. So the basement, just like any other basement libraries are much more quiet and more tables than books. Looks a little older as usual (not sure why though). Then to the left once you get downstairs are the restrooms. Not sure if the guy's one is down there, forgot, but the girls one's definitely is. Restroom is pretty clean, or maybe because it was still early when I was there; I wouldn't be surprised if it gets later or during finals season that it gets dirty and smelly. Meh. Never was a fan of public restrooms. But other than that... what's not to love about this place! read more

If you do not attend the school you will be kicked out of the study rooms. The hours are great but parking is very limited and can be pricey. After 8pm the Parking is Free as well as on Sunday. Stopped coming here because of parking (Recieved a parking ticket 10 mins before 8pm) and constantly getting bumped out of study rooms. However, this is a great Sunday or Late night studying Library. read more

I am resident of Boyle Heights and going all the way to the UPC for Doheny/Leavy is just too far of a drive. Also, some of the public libraries nearby aren't open as late and are not as quiet, Norris truly is a hidden gem for any student or person looking for a quiet place to study. Parking is the only major con and there isn't a cafeteria or place to get to food on the HSC on weekends, so come full or bring food! read more

I absolutely love that this is the only library open to the public so late at night! As a college student who is taking pre-reqs for Nursing school, I need plenty of time to study, yet my own school's library closes early. I have spent countless hours here to get the job done. Norris library even has study rooms with whiteboards which public can go into if USC Med students don't reserve them. Over all, if you're looking for a very quiet study environment, this is the place to come! In terms of street parking, I would recommend bringing quarters for street parking, but after 8pm it's free. read more

Norris library is by far my favorite library to go to when I need to get some studying done. The convenience that its walking distance from my house and the fact that they close really late helps keep my studying mode going. The best part about this library is that you are surrounded by so many young professionals which help me and hopefully yourself to work even harder in whatever you need to get done. The library has three floors and plenty of comfy seats and outlets with high speed wifi. There's also a food court and Starbucks next door which is a nice convenience if you get hungry. For the most part, there's no noise issue with this library as everyone is on the same boat as you. They also have rooms that you can book if you ever need to do any group work (not too sure if you need to be a USC student to book it). read more

The late-night hidden gem of places to work/study on the east side. Only go after hours or on Sundays when parking is free, otherwise it's annoying. And of course you can't get free internet. Otherwise it's awesome-- a quiet space full of diligent students available to the public until 2am. read more

This is a good place to study. Unfortunately, you can't access the internet if you're not a USC student but you will be able to hear a pin drop while reading. I like studying downstairs because the lighting is very bright and the restrooms are there. It's very clean and the temperature is always perfect. You can get free parking on Zonal in the visitor's parking. If coming from Down Town the parking is on the right in the last ramp. You just cross the street and the side walk will lead you to the library. You'll see students and staff crossing the crosswalk. read more
