This company is TERRIBLE!!! One stars is TOO MANY!!!!! Not only once BUT twice they came to our house, broke something and then WE had to pay for it. If you try to talk sense into them they just lie right to your face. I tried to go in and talk to them about my most recent issue and they brushed me off. Our heater needed to be cleaned and was working fine. In fact, it was on when the guy came in and he waited until the heater finished it's cycle. Well, magically, he touched it and it didn't work anymore. He had no idea what was wrong and spent a lot of time on the phone and taking pictures. He couldn't fix it. Next day a new guy comes back and claims it's not working because again magically the piece that was working when they came into the house just stopped the second they touched it (yeah right). But he didn't have the part. Had to come back. Waited 3 days and heard nothing. Mind you, we froze our butts off waiting for them to come back. Finally shows up and puts it in. Charges us for 3 trip fees, on top of the part and the reason he was actually there (which was just to clean it, nothing more). $233... when it was supposed to be $109. Owner doesn't care. And made it clear to us, he would do nothing to work with us because OUR HEATER WAS WORKING FINE BEFORE THEY SHOWED UP. The sole reason we were having it cleaned was because we sold our house and the buyer requested it. It's been perfect for 5 years. Not a single problem. And these jerks touch it and "it's broken"... yeah right. If you go to them, expect to pay WAY more. Because I guarantee... "something will be magically broken". Horrible customer service! A few months prior we had them fix our heater in the kitchen and the thermostat, which again worked perfect before they showed up, magically broke the minute they walked in... WORST EXPERIENCE. I purchased a house in Kettle Falls with a Mitsubishi split/ductless HVAC. As an amendment to the sales agreement after the home inspection, the seller agreed to fix the HVAC due to a whistling/whining noise coming from the head unit as well as an overtemp and noisy on-demand water heater. Seller contracted with Norstar - the company they had been using for preventive service. On the initial service call, the technician identified that the HVAC unit was operating normally. Technician replaced a few parts and said the water heater was good as well. However, when I did a final walk though prior to closing, I found that both the HVAC unit and water heater were still just as noisy. I was able to close by having the seller put up money to cover necessary repairs. In the interim, the water heater started intermittently shutting down. On the second service call, the technician (a different one than the first) looked at the water heater first. He said the unit was NOT too noisy. The fault code identified restricted draft air which was causing the unit to shut down. When he pulled the draft fan out, it was clogged with wasps. Apparently they were coming in thru the venting and when the unit was in use the fan turned the wasps to pulp, which clogged the fan reducing the air flow. After cleaning the fan unit and reassembling, the unit operated without shutting down and did so quietly (as it should have). When he got to the HVAC, he identified a bad fan bearing. With the head unit disassembled we could see how incredibly dirty everything was. In fact, this tech said that when he came out previously to perform preventive maintenance several months prior he saw how dirty the unit was (but, of course, and obviously, never cleaned it or identified it as something needing to be done). Ultimately, he said the head unit required a new fan because the bearing was bad. That had to be ordered and took over two weeks to get. I had to call the office regularly to get updates and then had to wait around another week after the part arrived to get a service call. On the third service call, the technician installed the fan. Once the unit was back together, he turned it on and it was still loud and whistling. The technician now said it was the fan motor bearing and the motor would need to be replaced. Of course, that had to be ordered. Again, I had to call the office to get updates and finally stopped by. When I did, I was told the part would be in the next day and the office manager scheduled the service call for that Friday - because I told her I had early afternoon appointments, she said I would be the first morning appointment. On Friday morning the technician called me and tells me he'll be at my house between 1 and 2PM. Since I had to leave by that time to make my appointments, I once again had to reschedule. I had to wait another two weeks. On the fourth service call (today), the technician replaced the fan motor. The unit finally operates the way it is supposed to - quietly. While the tech had the previously installed fan out to replace the motor I looked at the assembly. The "bearing" isn't a traditional sealed type, it's simply a rubber cap with some grease in it. While I'm happy to have a new fan in there, I don't think it was a legitimate need. In any case, this ordeal has spanned over the course of roughly 3 months. Fortunately, the sellers I purchased from are paying because I never would have. After this, I'd never use this company or recommend this company for work. I would say they are, at best, incompetent parts changers. They can't identify what normal operation should be - telling me on two different units that the noise was "normal" when it actually wasn't. Preventive service contracts are obviously worthless, since technicians don't fix or even warn of possible issues (apparently they're just waiting for things to fail so they can charge to replace). Communication - both internal and that with customers - is pathetic. Others may have/ have had different experiences, but I'm just telling you mine. read more

Norstar came out to the house and for 120 dollars told us the furnace motor was shot. I asked for a price to replace the motor and for prices on new furnaces as well. Two weeks later I had NOT heard from them so I called and asked what was taking so long with prices. I was told they were sorry but they would get right back to me. 3 days later I called them again near the end of their day I admit but still well within working hours. My phone call was pushed to an answering service. The very next morning the woman from Norstar called me. The motor is shot and can not be replaced and then gave me a quote on the price of a new furnace. I was never offered choices or models just a blank quote and verbally on the phone. I was aggravated to say the least. ??? Quick shout out to ABC heating who promptly came out and repaired the so-called "SHOT MOTOR" for us. Well, Back in early Dec. Our heat went out. This was purchased roughly about 4 years prior, included a heat pump and electric air handler from Norstar Heating in Colville. Being it was, at that point, the coldest part that we have had ( and that we have been hearing not normal noise form the heating ). Our house is now with no heat, not even the back up that is supposed to kick on when the heat pump is not working. I called that morning at 7:15 ish and left a message to Norstar and took the day off work to try and get things handled. Waited til 10.15 ish, no word, I called again and got a hold of one of ladies and nothing was on record at that point. " It was busy and no one has listened to any messages today " I let them know, again, I have zero heat at my house and then I was told they would get someone to come and take a look at it today. I waited, again, 2:30 ish came around. no word, I called again and was told that the Tech was just finishing on a job and should to us in about 45 min to an hour. I waited, again, no word. 4:00pm came around, I called, They are closed, no answer!!! So now we are using space heaters to heat our bedroom, bathroom and living room and still is roughly around 50-55 degrees in our house. So, I take things in to my own hands at this point and get a hold of ABC heating and, BAM, we'll get someone out there asap, the next day they call me, and ask to have me meet them and see what's going on. This happens, ABC's tech found the Compressor failed, fuses blown ( cause of the compressor shorting out ) and the air handler heat sequencers failed in the secondary heating unit. And was told that the compressor, being with a certain amount of time should be under warr, So I ask, " Do you think that the TVX valves would be a warr item too? " ABC's tech said I know this one by the compressor is and the other one in the inside unit should be too. The tech did make a change in the inside heating unit to be able for us to have some heat, lasted 2 days, now GONE. Now, back up to mid Sept, we went on a family trip and Norstar had a quote from the previous owner to have the heating system fixed We said for them to do it while we were on vacation. The quote was for one of the TXV valves to be replaced and fill the system with Freon if it was needed. While we were on vacation, I got a phone call and was told the other TXV valve failed also and it was going to be around $259.00 to replaced ( extra above to quote ). I ok'd it ( frustrated, but did ). We get back from Vacation and now hearing not normal noise from heating unit, but working. Jump ahead to present. I again contact Norstar about no heat issue and that the compressor is confirmed that is a warr item ( if it's bad ). Keep in mind this is now almost 2 weeks with no heat, except the space heaters. Mid Dec now and the Norstar meets me at the house and confirms the compressor has failed, and the sequencers in the inside unit. He tells me he'll get the parts ordered since he assumed that I would want it takin care, I agreed. Waited, no word for over a week, I go down to Norstar and get the status of when the compressor is coming in and find out the it was never ordered, I asked to talk to the manager, Wayne comes out after talking with the receptionist and says " what can I do for you? " I told him I thought he was suppose to be looking in to what it's going to be to fix my heat. I then ask if he could show me the break down of the bill from Sept ( because it was all lumped in to 1 price, no labor/parts breakdown ). His comment " we don't do that ". In this conversation I have told him that too am in the service business and if he were my customer, I would been contacting him, not him having to keep calling or stopping in. Then, ( this is a good one ) He tells me, " well you're in the service business, do you show the breakdown of your invoices? " LOL My, comment " you're Damn right I do, I can tell you the parts/labor/shop supply & tax on every invoice written. " " oh " he says. I ask Wayne who is above him? " the Owner " ( Me ) " is he avail? " ( Wayne )" Nope " ( Me) " when will he be back?" ( Wayne, with a SmartAss voice & a cock to the side of his head ) " later ". and then tells me " He's just going to refer you back to me " Now that I'm pissed, I still try to keep calm. I told Wayne " You know, as a Manager of a business, I feel that you don't care about the way you treat your customer and that you are representing your business in a very poor way. " I ask why the compressor hasn't been ordered even though it was under warr? He says because I didn't give the ok to do so ( keep in mind the Tech and I already had the conversation of ordering when he was at the house ) . Sooo, now I ask when is it going to be here? takes about a week or so. I ask when they are going at least get the sequencers done?
