Where to start with these guys... first off, this review is for the Colville store, but there is no…read morespecific entry in Yelp for that store. My relationship with Northstar started when they installed the heat pump in our new construction home. The heating system was wired incorrectly, and had to be fixed by them. They left several ducts not connected to vents. This was found by me going into the crawl space, and seeing no ducts connected to several vents... A leak in the system developed, but no leak could initially be found. I was told by Norstar that the loss of 8 lbs of refrigerant was the probable result of a theft of the fluid...several hundred dollars later, the unit was working , but with very high energy bills. Norstar came back out, and again found the unit was short on refrigerant. After $400 more dollars in testing, several leaks were found. They seem to have a hard time with the long term fix of a system, and our more concerned with short term solutions (that then need more fixes in the future). They have always been friendly with me, but my wife has had mixed results with Norstar on the phone. In one example the service manager basically said my wife was lying on a scheduled appointment. It was a miscommunication in which the service manager told my wife that he remembered the conversation between my wife and I better than we did...not a great example of customer service... We do love the Lopi wood stove we purchased from them, and they did a good job installing it....but for technical repairs/assessments, I cannot recommend them. We went with another company for the repair of our system. It should be noted that there were several other negative issues we had with Norstar that were not mentioned in this review.

Steve literally had a tantrum when he walked in and the plumbers were still there. The plumbers and framers all thought he was a complete jerk. Bid an air return and never installed. Had to force him to install. Waited another 7 days days for return call and now final install won't be done for 6 weeks during heatwave & now it arrived damaged and now have to wait another week or 2. Said he would try to get us installed earlier if he had time but never ordered the heat pump so that was a lie!

They sent a super young man, and we were billed and paid the almost 200 dollars. Sturm was going to have a tech come out and tell us how much a complete repair would be (I ass u med) we paid for that and we also asked the tech to have sales contact us for bids to replace HP with another heat pump or A/C unit. After over a month of no contact, I finally got the poor receptionist to explain that it would be over 800 dollars MORE before they could tell us how much it would be to fix it. And, she politely said she would ask sales to contact us to follow up on repair or replace. OVER A MONTH OF NOTHING and now over 800 to do something we paid for in May. I contacted AF Honest Home Services for a second opinion about the condition of our furnace in a…read morehome we just purchased. AFHHS responded by visiting in a couple of hours and providing a preliminary assessment. A deep dive evaluation was scheduled for later in the week. The technician who arrived was very knowledgeable and thorough in his evaluation, pointing out a couple of things that contradicted the original evaluation by the first company. Although the AF technician indicated the furnace was a bit undersized for the square footage of our home, he said the furnace was in reasonable condition for being 11 years old. He recommended a thorough cleaning of the furnace in the spring before committing to purchasing a new furnace. We are very pleased with the results of calling AFHHS and will be looking forward to their service in a few months.
