I LOVE cortados and are typically my go-to for assessing coffeeshops. This particular cortado had a really nice silky texture, good creaminess, and stayed true to the coffee. The Alo 74158 bean is a $1.50 upcharge and has a fruity note that comes through nicely in the drink. The cortado was however much to cool for my preference and by the third sip it was already cold. 2.5/5 - Sprinkle Donut. This is a hot matcha latte with a chocolatey cold foam donut layered on top. It's a very pretty beverage but in practice doesn't provide the most optimal drinking experience. Suffered the same thing as the cortado where it was not hot enough and especially with the cold foam it cooled down way too fast. AMBIENCE (4.5/5) Super simple japandi meets mid-century interior with lots of warm woods and minimal seating. There is some bar seating where you can watch the baristas. There's also a wellness studio that's connected at the back..? LOCATION (2.5/5) Located on Yonge St between Lawrence and Eglinton so not very easily accessible by subway. Street parking along Yonge or in the adjacent neighbourhood. OVERALL (3/5) Branded as a specialty coffeeshop I expected perfect drinks but the drink temps really disappointed. The wellness centre is to the back of the space, appointment only, where there are services like sound bath, IV drip, wave activation therapy, deep thermal therapy, moxibustion therapy, as well as a bio-well scan to support your mental and physical well-being. The concept of the entire space allows you to slow down and to support the body's natural ability to regulate and restore itself. This review will only be about their cafe services as I only came for a coffee. Upon entering Denovia, the exterior of the cafe/wellness centre gives off calming vibes. Both the storefront and cafe area has warm wooden walls throughout giving welcoming and calming vibes. Near the window there is a bonsai plant as well as zen garden and crystals. The lighting of the cafe is warm, allowing you to take time for yourself to enjoy the ambiance of the place. I stopped by Denovia on a holiday Monday mid-morning and there were already a few customers enjoying their coffees. The staff were friendly as I scanned the menu and opted for my usual cortado. I did take a look at their signature menu which included drinks like a shaken latte, the sprinkle donut, the espresso bon bon as well as the coco nimbus. The neat thing is that they also had 2 other beans that you could choose from (more fruitier in profile). I also asked staff and they stated that they source their own beans for their coffee where Library Specialty Coffee (a local Toronto roasters with 2 coffee shops in the city) helps to roast their beans. This is not listed on the menu but pourover is available as well depending on which coffee bean you'd like to have. My coffee was made at a reasonable time and staff brought over my cortado to where I was sitting. The coffee was made well and I enjoyed the relaxing space. Overall, a great new cafe and wellness centre in Midtown Toronto. Would love to come back to try one of their signature drinks as well as experience the sound bath as well!
