In 2005 City Park was changed to honor Peter Bluesten who was the founder and publisher of the Hallandale Digest. Mr. Bluesten was a WWII veteran who moved to Hallandale from New Jersey in 1946 and he founded the paper in 1963. He took the paper from a one sheet advertisement to a widely read and respected paper that chronicled the history and growth of the city. It was a hometown paper that the community relied on. Mr, Bluesten was very involved with youth sports in the city. He passed away in 1996. The park was redesigned by Craven Thompson & Associates Inc. and the remodeled 16.5 acre Peter Bluesten Park opened to the public on September 28, 2019. One of the highlights is the park's Aquatics Center which has a 25-meter by 25-yard competition style pool with eight lane short course section for high school swim competitions and recreational interactive water features. The pool was designed to meet all of the requirements for USA Swimming. The multipurpose main pool has a large learn-to-swim area, a dedicated water aerobics area, and a beach entry. Both pools are design-built concrete pools with deck level overflow gutter systems. There is also a 1,800 sq. ft water playground with an elevated play structure, which includes multiple decks, slides, rain buckets, water cannons, dancing floor jets and water curtains. Other park amenities include The Hallandale Beach YMCA, an artificial Safeshell turf soccer field, three baseball fields, concession stand, outdoor stage, playground, tennis, basketball, bankshot basketball, racquetball, walking path, and support buildings. The city uses the park for a number of events like their annual Easter Egg Hunt and Movies Under the Stars. If there is one small drawback to Peter Bluesten Park it is that it does not have a parking lot. You have to pay by app and park on the street. Other that that this is a really amazing park with something for everyone to enjoy.

The result is an engaging park full of amenities for everyone to enjoy. Heritage Park has two playgrounds with Evos and Weevos play structures designed to let children flex their mental and physical muscles for creative play and upper body and core strength. a water play area, Veterans Memorial, performance stage used for the signature event Sunny Isles Beach Jazz Fest every October, dog area, great lawn, picnic tables, benches, and restrooms. In honor of one the areas most beloved residents, Hollywood Commissioners voted to rename the park after him in 1999. The park was originally named Yankee Clipper after DiMaggio's nickname but after his death his family requested the name change. It is a fitting honor for someone who gave so much to the community even lending his name for a world class children's hospital. Today you can stroll the same paths Joe DiMaggio used to enjoy. The park has a paved exercise path that runs around the perimeter of picturesque lakes. Along the way are fitness stations that use your body weight to work out. There is also a large shade covered playground for kids to enjoy. The real delight of this park are the extensive paths which are ideal for exercise like running and walking and for kids to safely ride a bike and skate on. The outer loop is .81 miles and the inner loop is .40 miles. This park is also excellent for bird watching as the lakes attract a number of species of birds. Just be sure to keep dogs away from the edge of the water. Last summer a crocodile was caught in the park before being relocated. This park is really pretty and beloved by the community just as its namesake Joe DiMaggio was.

The Lions Club of Hollywood takes care of their namesake park. The club recently collected 500 pounds of plastic from the community, other clubs, and civic organizations in a six month period and were rewarded with a recycled plastic Trex bench for the park. On December 7th the club held a ribbon cutting ceremony and tree planting to commemorate the installation of the new bench.During the ceremony the club did some landscaping to tidy up the park and the Stan Goldman Memorial park too. Although small this lovely park is worth a visit. I found parking at the nearby railway station that is next to the Stan Goldman Memorial Park. As I was crossing the bridge between the two parks I spotted 4 manatees in the canal below. I have never spotted them in a park before so I had a great experience watching them swim and eat. One of the team members, Elise or Eli's was locking up the park and doing his search of the park and stumbled upon my wallet. Not only did I not know realize I left my wallet, but Elise took it into his own hands and searched the Aventura data base and called my house to let me know that I left my wallet. If it wasn't for Elise and the staff, I would never have known and would have been frantically searching the next day. However, Elise called around an hour after I left and made sure I retrieved my wallet. So for that I thank you and the staff! The park has always been home for me and my dog. The staff is an extended family that is always helpful and amazing to our community. Aventura park is one of a kind.

At the time it was the first green initiative park in the city because the playground, pavilion, garbage cans, benches and picnic table were made from recyclables. In addition drought tolerant plants were chosen. On June 3, 2023 a newly renovated Sunrise Park opened to the public. Although the park is only a half acre it feels so much bigger. Park amenities include paved walkways, outdoor fitness gym, benches, a ping pong table, playground, picnic area, restrooms, and my favorite part, a beautiful butterfly garden that attracts a number of butterflies. This park is really beautiful and it has everything you could want in a neighborhood park. Another welcome amenity is it actually has a parking lot. You have to pay to park on the street at many of the other parks in Hallandale. Sunset Park is a wonderful place to take kids to play and this is one of the rare parks where the adults looked like they were enjoying it as much as the kids.

This is a very nice paved exercise trail named in honor of businessman and developer Don Soffer (b…read more 1932). Soffer was given the primary responsibility to develop an upscale community around the Turnberry Country Club. Originally named Turnberry he renamed the project Aventura, the Spanish word for adventure. The exercise trail is 10 feet wide, paved, and ADA accessible. It is 3.1 miles long and goes around the Turnberry Isle Resort Golf Course along Country Club Drive. Along the path is landscaping, shade trees, lights, benches, and water fountains. This easy to traverse trail is a popular pace for the community to safely walk, run, jog, rollerblade and bike. It takes most people an hour or less to complete. Pets are allowed as long as leashed six feet or less. On one side of the trail is the road so it is not as scenic as the trails through natural areas that I prefer. Still it is nice to know the exact distance you are going, it is a loop, and the trail is conveniently open 24 hours a day.

Later James became the principal of the two-room Hallandale Community School from 1920 to 1927. In the 1950s, it became the B.F. James Elementary School, then later the B.F. James Adult Education Center. Today BF James Park sits on the site of the city's first black school. In 2014 the community gave feedback to the city that they wanted a pool. The pool and park is part of Hallandale Beach's Citywide Parks Master plan. It was the second city park to be completed in the first phase of the plan. BF James Park received a five million dollar complex that includes a beach style swimming pool with exercise lanes. Other park amenities added included exercise stations, a covered playground, and two new basketball courts. The building of this park fulfilled a 40 year old promise the city made to this community to provide a pool after the old Dixie pool fell into a state of disrepair. It is nice to see that the city of Hallandale Beach honored their commitment to this neighborhood with this beautiful park.
