Heritage Park was conceived as being a landmark entrance to the city. The park was dedicated on June 18, 2011 to coincide with the city's 14th anniversary. Parking is available in the garage across the street. Public meetings were held to get community input into the design if the park. The result is an engaging park full of amenities for everyone to enjoy. Heritage Park has two playgrounds with Evos and Weevos play structures designed to let children flex their mental and physical muscles for creative play and upper body and core strength. a water play area, Veterans Memorial, performance stage used for the signature event Sunny Isles Beach Jazz Fest every October, dog area, great lawn, picnic tables, benches, and restrooms. This park is a stop on the community service shuttle bus. In honor of one the areas most beloved residents, Hollywood Commissioners voted to rename the park after him in 1999. The park was originally named Yankee Clipper after DiMaggio's nickname but after his death his family requested the name change. It is a fitting honor for someone who gave so much to the community even lending his name for a world class children's hospital. Today you can stroll the same paths Joe DiMaggio used to enjoy. The park has a paved exercise path that runs around the perimeter of picturesque lakes. Along the way are fitness stations that use your body weight to work out. There is also a large shade covered playground for kids to enjoy. The real delight of this park are the extensive paths which are ideal for exercise like running and walking and for kids to safely ride a bike and skate on. The outer loop is .81 miles and the inner loop is .40 miles. This park is also excellent for bird watching as the lakes attract a number of species of birds. Just be sure to keep dogs away from the edge of the water. Last summer a crocodile was caught in the park before being relocated. This park is really pretty and beloved by the community just as its namesake Joe DiMaggio was.

In addition drought tolerant plants were chosen. On June 3, 2023 a newly renovated Sunrise Park opened to the public. Although the park is only a half acre it feels so much bigger. Park amenities include paved walkways, outdoor fitness gym, benches, a ping pong table, playground, picnic area, restrooms, and my favorite part, a beautiful butterfly garden that attracts a number of butterflies. This park is really beautiful and it has everything you could want in a neighborhood park. Another welcome amenity is it actually has a parking lot. You have to pay to park on the street at many of the other parks in Hallandale. Sunset Park is a wonderful place to take kids to play and this is one of the rare parks where the adults looked like they were enjoying it as much as the kids.

One of the team members, Elise or Eli's was locking up the park and doing his search of the park and stumbled upon my wallet. Not only did I not know realize I left my wallet, but Elise took it into his own hands and searched the Aventura data base and called my house to let me know that I left my wallet. If it wasn't for Elise and the staff, I would never have known and would have been frantically searching the next day. However, Elise called around an hour after I left and made sure I retrieved my wallet. So for that I thank you and the staff! The park has always been home for me and my dog. The staff is an extended family that is always helpful and amazing to our community. Aventura park is one of a kind.

Later James became the principal of the two-room Hallandale Community School from 1920 to 1927. In the 1950s, it became the B.F. James Elementary School, then later the B.F. James Adult Education Center. Today BF James Park sits on the site of the city's first black school. In 2014 the community gave feedback to the city that they wanted a pool. The pool and park is part of Hallandale Beach's Citywide Parks Master plan. It was the second city park to be completed in the first phase of the plan. BF James Park received a five million dollar complex that includes a beach style swimming pool with exercise lanes. Other park amenities added included exercise stations, a covered playground, and two new basketball courts. The building of this park fulfilled a 40 year old promise the city made to this community to provide a pool after the old Dixie pool fell into a state of disrepair. It is nice to see that the city of Hallandale Beach honored their commitment to this neighborhood with this beautiful park.

This is a very nicely appointed beach park in the city of Hallandale Beach. There is also a North…read moreCity Beach Park that is about a ten minute drive away. The park was renovated at a cost of $4.36 million as part of the City Wide Parks Master Plan and it reopened on March 1, 2015. South City Beach Park has beach access, restrooms, outdoor showers, open air pavilion, two bocce courts, a fenced in playground, sand volleyball court, and a beachfront concession stand. If you chose to come here do not let your parking time run out! I have been here twice and they are very aggressive about writing tickets. Both times I saw multiple tickets written. Online it says the minimum parking ticket is $39. I even saw one car with the barnacle which covers the windshield and makes it impossible to see to drive the car until you pay the fine to unlock it. You can pay for parking on your phone by app. In addition to being quick to write a ticket, another thing I didn't care for is they change the parking price whenever they want. If you come early or late you can get a discounted price of $2 and hour which is half off the normal $4 an hour rate but another time I came on the Sunday after Fourth of July and a holiday rate of $10 was in effect. If you are going to stay all day it is fine but at least for me it discourages dropping in for an hour or two. Make sure you keep an eye on the time so you can have your best beach day here.

Gorillas in the Mist is a unique public work designed expressly for Aventura Mall. A whimsical fountain comprised of three large-scale bronze gorillas, four massive bronze trees and five hand-carved marble benches. I found them a bit spread out, so I needed to get at the right distance and angle to appreciate the entire exhibit. It's a fountain and a playground, built specifically with children in mind. And sure enough while I was there...many children were having fun playing around them and on them...freely and care free.....

However, In my opinion this is incorrectly advertised as a Fountain, Children's Playground or Splash pad. By word of mouth, we heard how great this "little splashpad" was. Great for moms who wanted to get some shopping done and then take their little for some fun time and water play time. I did not think to snap a picture, but will do so on my next visit. According to this sign, the fountain uses reclaimed water and there is an advisory that the water should not be swallowed! This sign is not prominently displayed. I have a toddler who like many other toddlers, loves to run, splash and occasionally swallow water (especially when it's shooting out from the ground and out of the gorillas). Sounds cool, but in reality it's a bit disgusting. My husband and I were utterly disgusted that we did not see this sign until we were leaving and happen to look over out of curiosity! On the AM webpage description of the Gorillas in the most fountain it clearly states: "It's a fountain and a playground, built specifically with children in mind."..... if it is made with children in mind, why is it that we're potentially exposing the child to reclaimed water that should not be swallowed? Now to the defense of AM, they do not advertise this as a splashpad, so shame on us parents for treating it as such. It's a "Fountain". It's definitely nice to look at it! Play at your own risk.
