I brought my son here. I asked if I could sit at a table to work on my pc until he was done. They…read moresaid yes, just like every YMCA we have been to. Then they said I couldn't be in there since I'm not a member. They kicked me out, so then I sat in a chair in the entrance to wait for him. They said no! I need to leave the building. I'm sitting outside on the curb waiting for my son for the next hour. It was very humiliating. I won't be bring him back here again. I love that I can pay for his yearly membership, but can't wait for him in the building. If it was raining out today I would have been so pissed.... I'm very disappointed. There are a lot of other YMCA's that are kind. Stay away from this one.

I competed at the Skagit Valley Family YMCA a few times as part of my high school swim team…read more(Shorewood High School) over a decade ago (I am writing this review Tuesday 5 December 2023). Oak Harbor was in our competition circuit and the high school did not have a school on campus, so the swim meets were contested at this YMCA. It was the regular season pool we traveled the furthest to compete at and offered a different competition experience than some of the other pools we competed at. I may have competed/coached at this pool as part of my YMCA swim team circuit as well. The pool was shallow for the full length, meaning no blocks for starts. Some of the swimmers were really irked by this, I did not mind. There was space on the pool deck for bags and a little bit of bleacher area seating. The locker rooms were clean and easy to find. The parking lot was large enough for regular YMCA users as well as both teams. During one of my high school swim meets here, my grandparents (who lived in Oak Harbor) even stopped by and we had space to talk on our own in the parking lot.

Starbright is like a second home…read more My son started back during COVID when we were very unhappy with his care center and how they were handling things (combining classrooms, being lazy in taking precautions, etc). We took a tour with Starbright and instantly felt at ease. You could tell they clearly cared so much about the kids, keeping everyone safe, and remaining as normal as you can during an abnormal time. My son attended until he went to kindergarten. My daughter has been there since she was an infant. It's a terrible day when you drop off your baby and go back to work, but it's much less terrible when you know that your child is going to be taken care of by incredibly knowledgeable, caring, and kind teachers. Ms. Pam has been there for over 20 years, and she is wonderful. Our daughter will be heading off to kindergarten in the fall, and it will be so sad to say our goodbyes at the end of August. We have loved each teacher for the way they have helped both of my kids develop into the beautiful, caring people they are today. My kids are different people, with their individual personalities, and both have been able to grow and flourish into incredible versions of themselves. Ms. Melissa is the Pre-K teacher for my daughter, and this class is incredible. My daughter has learned so much since being in this class. The way Ms. Melissa makes learning fun and creative and engages the kids is remarkable. Sidenote: I have attended a few field trips over the years, and I will say every single time we arrive somewhere, the first thing I hear is how much they love Starbright kids because they are so well-behaved and have such great manners. Lastly, Lexie and Jen are incredible, and like family. They know every single child's name, parents' name, and have a story to tell you about something that your kid did that week. I always appreciate communication via email when something changes, and the willingness to talk and find a resolution if there is a concern. They keep things running smoothly, and they truly care about every child that comes through. We will forever be grateful to Starbright. I have tears just writing this.

I want to start this off that Starbright is 10/10. The center is extremely well organized and the…read moreamount of effort put by the teachers that I had interactions with were just splendid. The boss babe, Jen, she listened and took action anytime it was needed and did her best to make your requests made- EVEN THROUGH the hardest times of the pandemic. I was so sad to pull my son out of after only being there for 6 months because I REALLY loved how they loved and cared for my son. But he started to feel unsafe and would cry and fight going. When I asked why, he would tell me the name of one teacher who just made him feel unsafe. I came to learn that anytime my son had to be around Ms. Nevi that he would do what he could to leave the immediate area. I also noticed little things that she would say or do didn't always add up. I cherish the memories we have from Starbright and was really looking forward to my second baby going there- but I couldn't continue to keep my son in a place with a teacher that he would scream in discomfort about.

They have always been supportive of our schedules, worked super hard during all of the Covid mandates, provided many different food options which helped our kiddos try new things and worked hand in hand to help with potty training our 3 year old. I am constantly amazed with what they learn, knowing numbers, colors, shapes, how plants grow, singing songs and having very active imaginations. Currently pregnant with our 3rd and cannot wait for him to be old enough to attend this location as well. I have always recieved a response before the time I need it and they will call you with any concerns to keep you updated. Even when my daughter was having an off day and just wasn't her normal self they let us know and kept me in the loop.

We were told by 2 staff members that they were short staffed and had to merge classes in the afternoons. Sadly, it took our daughter being bit on the chest for us to withdraw that very day! Labelled items are lost. The building smells of poopy diapers at any hour of pick up. Info appt conveniently scheduled during nap time so you don't see/smell the inside of the building. Our daughter screamed every time we would pull up, barely napped and didn't eat the entire day. If we had known this PRIOR to enrolling, it would have spared us lots of headaches and stress. The owner is one of the hardest people to communicate with, although she REPEATEDLY stated "communication is very important to us." Messages not returned, but she would spend all day sending lengthy emails (with the snotty, condenscending tone) then state "I didn't have a chance to hear your voicemail." She sees the children as $$, it was evident from the first week. Owned by the Schorsch family.
