I brought my son here. I asked if I could sit at a table to work on my pc until he was done. They said yes, just like every YMCA we have been to. Then they said I couldn't be in there since I'm not a member. They kicked me out, so then I sat in a chair in the entrance to wait for him. They said no! I need to leave the building. I'm sitting outside on the curb waiting for my son for the next hour. It was very humiliating. I won't be bring him back here again. I love that I can pay for his yearly membership, but can't wait for him in the building. If it was raining out today I would have been so pissed.... I'm very disappointed. There are a lot of other YMCA's that are kind. Stay away from this one. read more

I competed at the Skagit Valley Family YMCA a few times as part of my high school swim team (Shorewood High School) over a decade ago (I am writing this review Tuesday 5 December 2023). Oak Harbor was in our competition circuit and the high school did not have a school on campus, so the swim meets were contested at this YMCA. It was the regular season pool we traveled the furthest to compete at and offered a different competition experience than some of the other pools we competed at. I may have competed/coached at this pool as part of my YMCA swim team circuit as well. The pool was shallow for the full length, meaning no blocks for starts. Some of the swimmers were really irked by this, I did not mind. There was space on the pool deck for bags and a little bit of bleacher area seating. The locker rooms were clean and easy to find. The parking lot was large enough for regular YMCA users as well as both teams. During one of my high school swim meets here, my grandparents (who lived in Oak Harbor) even stopped by and we had space to talk on our own in the parking lot. read more

Just had very unsettling experience here at the YMCA. As I am visiting family for the holidays, I was looking to work out on a day pass. As the employee is mid inputting my information, a member and his young son had inquiries about the pool and the employee preceded to stop what he was doing with me, to help them. So now I'm standing waiting for literally no reason. After he no so promptly finished with them, I asked him if members take priority when you're helping someone else, he said YES. I couldn't believe it, got my ID back and swiftly walked out. This is sad because I went to a different YMCA about 20 minutes away, and the customer service was TOP TIER. Having ran a Health Club for over a decade, this was quite discouraging. Do better. read more

Extremely rude staff not allowing my daughter to swim a few weeks ago despite only about 20 people there (online says 75 is capacity). We were told to wait but no sign in list, before telling us about 30 mins later that they weren't going to let us in and we had to leave. This time, about 8 staff at the front desk but only 2 actually doing anything. Again, they claimed to be at capacity. I asked 75 - and they confirmed...went and looked and it was closer to 40 people. So while we debated waiting for the next session or doing something else, a staff member rudely interrupted us and told us we were not allowed to wait or watch. I would rather drive an extra hour away to go to a far superior Snohomish aquatic center than ever give this facility a dime. read more

Dont waste your money on the y camp. Your kids might get suspended from a program you pay out of pocket due to the young adults that are not adequately train to handle a 10 year old. read more

I love this place! perfect for families. I love the have childcare available. I was very reluctant to leave my Teo girls in the childcare but when I went to pick them up, they didn't want to leave!!! I totally in love with community center. read more

This place. Ugh. If you have no children and are going there with the sole purpose of working out. It's fine. Great even. Bonus if you drive a hybrid for their many front row parking spaces. However, if you want to use their other services like classes or swim lessons or sports, you will at some point be disappointed, maybe often. The front desk has no idea what is going on so don't bother asking, any answer has 50/50 odds of being wrong. That's not good when you are schlepping all the kid crap for swim lessons only to show up and find out lessons are cancelled, despite having called to confirm and being told the schedule is as usual. Unhappy kids, frustrated parents. I will say that the employees at the Kid Zone are very nice and my kids love going there. read more

As a family activity center and healthy lifestyle center this YMCA is a great value in Mount Vernon. As solely a gym for an adult looking to work out, it is good, but could use some updating and a little more space. Not the best gym for a lot of free weight work, especially if its crowded. Maybe 3 stars for just the gym. We love the child care during gym hours in the morning and evening! The staff is great. The playroom is geared towards younger kids, so our older one is bored but they recently added a lego camp for older kids. We hope they continue to bridge the activity gap between 6 and 12 (until they can start using the gym with parents.) Swim lessons are held in the basement pool, as well as family swim time, and the local school sports team swim meets. There are fitness classes available for everyone, from hard to easy, young to old. Personal trainers available. The gym has several treadmills and cardio machines, a basic assortment of machines. Pros: Lots of sports, activities, classes. Friendly helpful staff. Childcare mornings and evenings. Pool. All activities are either free or discounted for members. Anyone can participate in any activity even if you arent a member. Sometimes the facilities arent very busy and you kind of have your own gym! Cons: There is only really one set of hand weights, and not too much space to use them. There is a squat rack, but no floor space to set up for a deadlift, or overhead or jerk. The only floor available for mat work is the gym, so if there is a class you are sharing the area and it can get crowded. No weekend childcare. read more

just to let you all know I'm rating the aquatics center, nothing else. The pool is small, the lifeguards are very unattentive, and the aquatics director is extremely rude, and very immature. I feel like she is a 15 year old in a 50 year olds body. This place needs new management. read more
