I hired Anthony of HandyTech Communications LLC to repair cracked grout lines on a retaining rock…read morewall that was leaking sand in a couple spots. He said it would be $2-4k depending if it was a quick repair or a full tear-down. After inspection we agreed it only needed repair to all the cracks and skim over with matching material for $2k for labor and materials. I offered to get $500 in the materials from a friend which brought the total to $1500. The scope of the work was to clean the wall, chip out all the cracks, fill cracks with cement caulk, then skim over all the areas between the rocks with material that would match the existing material...which was exposed aggregate. He showed up the first day on an empty tank...and an empty wallet to I bought him an $85 tank of gas that would come off the total. Then he didn't have the right tools so we combined discounts at Lowe to save him money... $219 which would also come off the total. Then we did the same thing with the materials...combined discount to save him money. Then he needed $100 cash for groceries for his wife and 4 kids! So. I'm down $1200 cash and $300 in tools and gas before the job even started. Day 1 AND 2: After saying he would work 7-8 am until after dark with his big work-light, he showed 2-3 hours late EVERY DAY and left around 3-5 pm. The first 2 days were a complete disaster as he clearly had no idea what materials to use or how to apply them. So, we spent the days making multiple trips buying and returning products at Lowes. In between trips he would experiment with different materials unsuccessfully as he did NOT know what he was doing. In the meantime, I'm missing 2 days of work baby-sitting him while he "learns on the job". When I see he barely did 9 linear feet of grout and 15 linear feet of crack removal on a 4ftx 85ft wall, I ask what's going on. He then insists there was a "miscommunication" and the total to do it correctly will now be $3400! Since I don't want to lose my initial investment, I reluctantly agree. Day 3: h He's still having problems with the product adhesion since he didn't clean it properly so I offer to borrow a power-washer to make the job easier and he happily agrees. Then refused to put on boots, insisting on wearing flip-flops...while slipping and tripping over and over while using a 3300psi power-washer! Then we return the washer and he leaves early again. I was getting scared at this point that the job was going to keep going up in price and down in quality so I decided to get a specialist to come assess the problems on a day he took off to "help his dad with something". When he accidentally found out I was not only getting a second opinion but was unhappy with his lack of progress...all heck broke loose! He went from this seemingly nice guy to fully nasty and insulting. Acting like he was doing my broke butt a big favor in even taking this job. And nothing was his fault. And I was twisting things around, etc, etc. Even though before that he kept thanking me for being so patient with him while he "figures out what he's doing wrong". Then told me he was keeping all the money and ghosted me! So, I'm down $1100 cash, $300 tools and gas for him, $300 in lost wages, and $100 in materials he used from my personal stock. Making it $1800 to power-wash my wall and leave me a big mess to clean. Anthony apparently has ADHD and refuses to take the proper medicine because he says it's the "same as meth." So he tells me he has to smoke weed all day every day as medicine "just to think straight". Well, it shows. You can tell by listening to him and watching his slow movements that he is high....not "level". He's not a nice guy...he's a stoned guy. And despite constantly boasting about how honest he is...he turned out to be a scammer who took my money and ran. Which is what anyone considering hiring him should do...RUN AWAY!!
