Kantong is a stalwart of the Everton Shopping Village. Other shops come and go, but I'm fairly sure Kantong will always be there. It is, by far, the best Chinese place in this particular northern pocket. Highlights on the menu include the curry puffs ($5.50) which are always crispy, and make the most satisfying CRUNCH noise when you bite into them. I always opt for the Beef and Black Bean ($10.00), and occasionally I'll splash out and get the sweet and sour pork ($10.00). Also, I don't know what it is about their fried rice ($5.90), but I could eat buckets of it in one sitting. For you seafood fiends out there, you'll be happy to know they have a wide range of fantastic seafood options. Hell, there's five different options for scallops alone! If you call ahead, they're good at giving you a good approximate time to come and pick it up. If you eat in, enjoy the humble and relaxed setting. I reckon almost everyone living in this pocket of the northern suburbs would have Kantong on auto dial. Best part? When we call, they know us by the sound of our voice. The lovely little dumplings and mango pancakes that come rolling past on cute little trolleys send my tastebuds into a frenzy! I love the prawn gow gees, the pork and peanut dumplings and the vegetarian spring rolls. On the downside, the manager sits Westerners and Chinese in different areas and the Chinese area gets priority, sometimes all the good things are gone or cold which is quite annoying. Aspley Oriental is probably the most expensive Yum Cha restaurant I have been too which is also a bit of a bummer. It is best to go on the weekends as there is much more variety, you do have to wait outside for a while though unfortunately. The food is good though, and worth the wait.

When the mains came out I think there a moment where there were very few words said between the fifteen of us. For those five or so minutes you could feel the rest of the patrons enjoying their meals. For me the sizzling steak was a winner I could have eaten another ten plates of that. However, the one person who decided to buy Peking Duck that night left a sad man due to letting others pick apart his meal like addicted scavengers. Let me say it was delicious.

The waiters are very friendly and knowledgable in their cuisine. Take out is always good! If you order non vegetarian meals, you will find that they are quite generous with the meats in the dished. It's a pet hate when other take-out places assume if they put more veggies the customer won't notice- We do! Thankfully, Leon Chinese serves a good hearty take-out and at that, very good prices.

Once those were finished it was another ten minutes until mains came out. Everything that was placed in front of us looked fresh and delectable. Everything from the stir-fry to the noodle dishes was delicious, even the fried rice was good enough to eat on its own. Not even the quasi-racist passively aggressive ranting of the she-tip-rat could ruin our meal. On our way out we thanks the owner for the food, and he apologised for the tip rats. It's conveniently located in Carseldine Central where parking is plentiful. I wasn't expecting too much when we went there, and I was pleasantly surprised by the food. The dumplings were excellent, and the mains were awesome. The Sichuan beef stir fry, salt and pepper calamari and satay chicken were particular standouts. The drinks were made from scratch and were refreshing and scrumptious! I loved the Lychee twist and Lemon Lime and Bitters. Service was friendly and attentive, making this restaurant a good alternative to Sunnybank where service is an afterthought (and often feels like taking a trip to Timbuktu). This restaurant is a great addition to the Northside culinary scene and I expect this eatery to become more popular as time goes by.
