I have been to the Kiosk a number of times, and after today's lunch it will be the last time. The value for money, food and service has been getting progressively worse and today was the last straw.
As usual, I had to wait a long time for my order to be ready, though that is understandable for a popular cafe'/restaurant. My only problem was that the waitress thought it necessary to have the order for her group of friends brought out at least 15min before mine and my partners order, which was placed at least 5min before the friends arrived to the cafe'. I noted the time because the said waitress decided to stop everything that she was doing to come out and chat with these friends when they arrived. When this did happen it was a surprise to see the waitress smile, because before this I thought all of the serving staff were void of all personality and manners.
Once my partner and I received our order (chicken burger and salt and pepper squid) not much improved. My burger was made with a piece of chicken no bigger than 2/3rds the size of the palm of my hand, about a dozen shreds of lettuces, three small, old pieces of tomato lumped to one side of my bun, and my sauce, which was admittedly tasty, made a good dipping sauce for my small portion of "hot" chips, for most of it was pooled at to bottom of my burger container. The sauce that did manage to make it to the very edge of my burger was mostly oozing down the side.
Much the same can be said for my girlfriend's squid, which reminded me of the squid you buy from the frozen food isle at your supermarket.
Although being reassured our order would be out shortly by a waitress that noticed we were waiting a long time, our food still managed to come out cold!
The location of The Kiosk is stunning, a stone's throw away from Wollongong's beautiful North Beach, and I have to believe this why the business is getting such good patronage.
My suggestion, if you want to head down to North Beach and sit down while enjoying a nice meal over-looking beautiful scenery... bring a picnic. read more
