There's also a dog park that I don't know a lot of information about as I don't have a dog. ;) There's plenty of baseball diamonds and soccer fields. The park has an outdoor workout area with a lot of nice equipment and walking trails. It's a great treasure to the residents and visitors. The Kid Kastle area is great for those of us with special needs kids or little ones who like to wonder off. There's only one entrance/exit with plenty of seats near it so while we must watch our kids we can give them a little more freedom than at a park without a good fence. The structure is well kept and safe. The city keeps the ponds well stocked with various fish. We took the kids fishing for the first time and caught 2 perch and 1 bass in the span of about an hour early in the morning. Several people recommend late in the evening. Just keep in mind the hours visitors are allowed in the park as they generally close from dusk to dawn. The little fishing pier appears pretty new and is in great shape with rails all the way around it. A fellow visitor caught a couple VERY large catfish using hot dog bait. :) I'm very appreciative for all the hard work and effort the city puts into maintaining such wonderful places for families to spend free time at and enjoy.

It had been mowed.(you can tell. Didn't have to worry about running upon a snake or some critter. I did not see where to pay the $7 though, so I decided to see if I could find it online. No ATM's etc. There was a metal box it seemed, but I wouldn't deposit any cash into that. They need a better means of collecting the $7. maybe at the entrance? Maybe they are working on that. (smile) Overall, it was a great experience and I did catch some buffalo fish. My neighbors caught a nice channel catfish using cut bait.

Bring the family or come solo. This is a smaller part of the Ray Roberts park so it is a very safe feeling here. Fish, hike, bring a picnic basket! Both times, you are greeted right at entrance and given an introduction by some really nice staffers. Regardless of whether you're a newcomer or not, they will give you a map and help orient you around the area. The site that we chose (Dogwood Canyon again) was clean and nicely spread out from the next site. We don't know if any staff members come by to check on the place after check-out but every time we've come now, the site is pretty clean and clear from any litter. Unfortunately this time around, the toilets weren't that well stocked with toilet paper so yes, bring toilet paper while camping! This should be for best practice anyways. :-) Other than that, we did have some noise disturbance in the evening from rowdy kiddos - it doesn't seem like anyone really patrols around to keep parties in check like some negative Google reviews may have suggested, who knows! The hikes were great, I would rate the blue and orange trails to be pretty mild-moderate. There are some slopes and there are some spots you may need to "climb" a bit but nothing too bad! I absolutely love having this park to get away to from the busyness of the city. Makes the $75 annual pass so so worth it (otherwise, it would be $7 per person, per day for admission)!

My husband and I came here for a weekend trek, and it's easily one of the best outdoor spots in North Texas. What I love most is the versatility. Whether you're looking for a smooth, paved stroll or want to get your boots a little dusty on the dirt hiking trails, they've got you covered. It's a great mix of elevation and flat stretches. It's a great spot for everyone. Pets are welcome (on leashes!), and there is a fantastic playground near the parking lot--perfect for kiddos who still have energy to burn after a hike. You'll see a beautiful variety of plants and likely some local wildlife. Just a heads-up: they do have warning signs posted for snakes and poison ivy, so definitely keep an eye on your surroundings while you explore. The parking lot is huge, but this place is popular! We arrived around 1:00 PM and it was nearly at capacity. We were lucky to snag a stall, but I'd definitely recommend arriving earlier in the morning if you want to avoid the parking hunt.

Arbor Hills is a place near and dear to my heart. This is one of the best places to get away from…read morethe crowded areas and just enjoy nature. The entrance area is always crowded so people don't get to see how amazing this place is. It's incredible because once you go off trail, you can see for miles to around and the sunset views are phenomenal. There are plenty of shortcuts around this area if you just want to do a quick loop to the observation tower and back to the main entrance. I took my old dog out here years ago and went off trail to isolated areas. I hope other dog owners get to see how happy she is and how much joy dogs get from being in this place. It's fairly common to see people taking family photos here but again, I truly recommend walking in off trail areas for 10 minutes to get spectacular photos.
