There are three reasons this isn't a five star-- 1. I think it is crazy if you commit to a punch pass, you don't get a slightly discounted rate. 10 punches for $50. 2. Re-entry is not allowed. Which, as a parent, I kind of wish it was? My three year old can only last a few hours before needing a break, especially on a super sunny day. 3. The hours are very abbreviated, IMO. Weekdays (11:00 am-8:00 pm) and weekends (12:00 pm-6:00 pm) They don't have Lessons our there all summer long and mornings on hot July days are best spent at the pool! On steamy Iowan summer days flock to this outdoor pool! It's clean, the staff is young but friendly and parking is a nonissue, unlike the City Park across town.

It's located on the east side of Iowa City just past Sycamore mall, so it's a bit of a jaunt for those in North Liberty or Coralville. Oh and most importantly, this mythical dream park is for ADULTS ONLY. If you have, consider yourself warned: DO NOT go to Mercer Park. Because oh my gosh, you'll be totally jealous at what the Iowa City kiddos get to play on. Iowa City's largest play area (I'm hard pressed to think of a bigger one) is only two years old and is pure magic. It's got a sensory play center, a net climbing course, a MASSIVE tower with enclosed slide and equipment meant for kiddos ages 2-to-5. There are also shelters, picnic tables, grills, lit baseball/softball fields, tee ball field, tennis courts, a refurbish old fire engine play structure... you name it-- it's got it. Even the indoor aquatic center lives at Mercer, too. There's ample parking and literally kids (and adults?) of all ages will enjoy it. My kids (ages 2 and 4) absolutely love the ginormous tower and crazy four person seesaw. Come check it out!

The casino is clean and pleasant (assuming you don't mind the smell of cigarettes). I was truly searching for a reason to give give Riverside a full 5-star rating, but I couldn't justify it since I don't think there is really anything that sets this casino apart from ones nearby (I.e., Rhythm City in Davenport, Isle in Waterloo, Diamond Jo in Dubuque, etc.). Ultimately, if you are looking for a new spot to gamble, you should give Riverside a try. However, I don't think you need to go out of your way to experience the casino itself. Nothing to complain about, but also nothing to rave over. (Disclaimer: I actually came out ahead $18 which paid for my lunch on this day. Have to wait ( in our cars?) for 30 minutes. Rain is drippy. Storm off to the north. Staff unwilling to close and issue rain checks. Thunder continues to rumble. "Manager" says "her Boss" will not okay a pool closure until 2:00 pm. Seriously? We have to wait over an hour and a half in our cars for a rain check? Very poor customer service. This is a municipal pool. Great service to our taxpayers. This pool is marginally okay. Hygiene is iffy. Have seen lifeguards scoop poop out and ignore any sanitation procedures on two separate occasions. Thank you Moline.
