He performed root canals & crowns. In addition he referred me for an oral surgery that now 7 years later I am told the tooth should have been extracted 7 years earlier and not had an extensive surgery performed. Do your homework prior to walking into this office, come to find out he has done this to another family member of mine as well as a very good friend in which we referred both to his office.

I would not come back here again…read more My kid had an endodontic surgery and silver crown on one of child molar about 6 months ago with the pediatric dentist. The other day, a huge inflammation was seen right below the silver crown. Noticing something was wrong, we visited another pediatric dentist. The new dentist took the x-ray and recommended that we take the tooth out because the silver crown was not sitting properly and likely had cavities inside. One the surgery was done, we noticed that the spacing between the crown and the teeth was so large that the food would get stuck, unable to be brushed, and leaving room for new cavities, not to mention that the old endodontic surgery was done improperly and developed further cavities (leading to inflammation). My kid is only 5 years old and was supposed to use the tooth for another 3-4 years before the adult tooth would come out. According to the new pediatric dentist we visited, it's likely that the old dentist didn't grind away the molar enough to put smaller crown to save time, but rather used bigger silver crown to save 10-15 minutes! Come dental dentists are always running against time and will never treat patients right. They look at patients as nothing but money. No doctor ethics. I hope other parents would not have to go through what we went through.

The task was enormous - at least to me it certainly had sounded overwhelming. But Dr. G's incredible patience and thoughtfulness, and the respectful manner in which he explains everything - treating you as a partner rather than simply a patient - made me choose him over two other doctors I had been considering. And I am so happy I did! Today, after many months or our collaboration I am in a very different place: medically, aesthetically, and emotionally. What's also very important to me is that Dr. Gerskowitz looks at the patient and his/her health in a integral way, which so rare at our time of infinite specialization. He is a real master. His approach is careful and intelligent, and what they call "bedside manner" is superb: once you are in his office, you immediately feel at ease. Dr. Gerskowitz is simply the best dentist I've seen in my life and one of the very best doctors of any specialization I've encountered. I just wish I found him earlier. The staff is equally great - I use this office now for my general dental maintenance and checkups. Everyone is knowledgeable and friendly. I normally go to the River Edge office, but have been to the Wayne location, too. Dr. G.'s practice is the place I recommend to my friends and family - that says it all. The young lady dentist assigned to me was very inexperienced. She extracted the molar by chipping and hacking away where she eventually removed the molar in pieces. I ended swallowing bits of the molar. In that visit, since I had insurance , this place did anything and everything to max out as much as they could from my insurance. I was told that 25% of the bill had to be paid upfront, which was $588. That night I bled quite a bit and had tremendous discomfort. The next day my face was swollen and I had a slight fever and realized something wasn't right. I When to another Dentist to get to the bottom of why I was bleeding so much and had this puffiness and why I had all this discomfort. Was told that the reason I bled so much was because the stitching done at this Avant garde place was because it was done on one side of the gum and that the stitching should've have been done in a cross road method as opposed to one side of the gum and the grafting to cover the hole in the gum area was not there. Was also told that I also had an infection as well and was given a prescription. I ended Spending an additional $750 to correct this mess done at Avant garde. To add insult to injury, no pun intended, Avant garde wanted another$1,590. I left skid marks at Avant garde. As mentioned, it was a horrible experience. Stay away...

His wife who is his secretary and office manager is even worse with very rude attitude. I've been here 3 times for cleaning. The first time Dr. Liu was good. Friendly and explained things to us. Each time after he just got colder and his visits got quicker. The third time he didn't even say hi when he entered the room and was cold and brushed off all our questions. His wife on the other hand was never friendly and got ruder and ruder the subsequent visits. This 4th time, we scheduled our cleaning at exactly 3:30pm for ourselves and our kid. We have our kid in school until 3:10 and don't live that close so we made sure to pick up him up 20 minutes earlier just so we can get there on time. Because that's the respectful thing to do. But when we got there at 3:28pm, we were surprised to find the front door locked, and the lights inside turned off! It was so weird. I rang the door bell many times, waited and rang the door bells again and again with no answer. I then called Dr. Liu's cellphone with no answer to the voicemail. Called the office phone and his wife picked up. I said we were there and the door was locked. She didn't apologize and said they went to pick up their kids from school and to wait. We waited until around 3:45pm and Dr. Liu came and unlocked the front door. When he saw me, no hi and no smile. NO acknowledgement of our existence and just walked to the back and disappeared. Wow! Sure it was not a long wait but it was the way they handled everything and not even apologizing and not even a hi when they saw us that really turned me off. We felt very disrespected and un-welcomed. I was upset and told his wife that it was not right that they didn't even tell us they had the office closed and locked and were running late and that we respected their time and picked up our kid earlier from school just so we can be on time for them. I cannot believe Dr. Liu's wife started rudely arguing with me saying it was just a few minutes and that it was not a big deal. I told her it wouldn't have been a big deal if they had notified me what was going on then to have us come to an empty office that was locked. But she continued to rudely defend themselves saying they did nothing wrong. That's when I said, we were leaving. Just wow! This really shows you how unprofessional and unethical this place is. This is not how you treat your customers. Now reflecting back, every time when we sign and pay the bills after our services, Dr. Liu's wife always said to us: "we charge extra, and if there's any left over after insurance, we will reimburse the money back to you". To this date, there has been no reimbursement from Dr. Liu's office. This wasn't even a big deal if they had been nicer. But sadly we felt disrespected and were clearly mistreated
