The only reason they received 2 stars is a result of their medical staff. Had a snafu with insurances so I called to let them know I got it straight. I asked for them to resubmit it (which takes a couple buttons) I was told they don't do that. WTH? What am I supposed to do with that? Then they sent a nasty-gram threatening to send it to a collection agency. My insurances pay all and we have great credit. Obviously, I was furious. Their admins don't give a crap about things such as this; so, I won't be back. Topping it off, the "c/s" rep I spoke to was combative and confrontational. A huge thank you to their medical staff. They were absolutely wonderful. read more

My husband was admitted for several problems including two strokes which means he was bedridden. I argued with everyone to start turning him to prevent bed sores. After a couple of weeks they brought in a wedge which stayed behind a chair unopened for several weeks so I opened it and tried to do it myself. When he came home after two months I decided to give him a bath the first night. I thought he messed himself. When I turned him he had a huge bandage. I removed it and it was a smell like rotten meat in a broken fridge. Terrible. No one ever told me. Snuck wound care in when I was not there. Of course this problem was included in the discharge papers I signed. Who reads each word of that? The bed sore was so bad a tennis ball could fit in it. Way past the bone. There is so much more I can write about the care but I'm sure you get the picture. Also he is diabetic and they forgot to bring him supper on three different nights. He was not given a replacement except for one night leftover of fish from the fridge not even warmed up. Now I know why they have signs everywhere about police and violence towards workers. This used to be a #1 hospital. Always insisted on going there. I don't know what happened but please do bring a loved one there. read more

Went into the ER for severe dental pain over the weekend (please note that when I say severe, I deal with the pain of a syrinx, or fluid tumor, inside of my spinal column on a daily basis). Never even got to see a Physician, only a Nurse Practitioner, who not only dismissed my symptoms (I think I'm aware of my gums swelling since I'm fairly used to how the inside of my own mouth feels), prescribed Ibuprofen, after being told I'd been self treating it before coming to the ER with Naproxen Sodium, and Acetaminophen. I was also prescribed an antibiotic, but the aforementioned Nurse Practitioner had no idea WHAT antibiotic to prescribe me, and kept asking me what to prescribe me. I asked for any form of relief from the pain, to which they administered a single dose of Ibuprofen in office, on top of the Prescription of OVER THE COUNTER treatments that I was already treating myself with. Don't waste your time, money, or risk your quality of well-being and health going to this place. They quite obviously ignore the patient's competence, knowledge, and symptoms. I am still in just as much pain as before I went, and am very hesitant to take the extremely basic Penicillin that was prescribed to me, as the Nurse Practitioner was so unsure about which antibiotic to treat an oral infection with. I will never again trust my health to this establishment. read more

I have had multiple surgeries at North Oaks and find their system to be amazing. Super clean and very efficient. The staff listens to my needs and takes all my requests into consideration. I also love how all my medical information is available to any doctor in the system; therefore, I don't have pages of paperwork to fill out every time I go in. read more

I should've listened to my friends and neighbor and run for the hills. The unprofessional posture was embarrassing to the extent I was really embarrassed for them. The staff truly make you feel like you're really bothering them. They'll email you asking for an honest review after your last visit. If it's not all praises, you better have a backup facility or campus already lined up. I stupidly left a review that they felt was not what they deserved. Next thing I know, I can't get a response whatsoever from this doctor. Ever since, every visit with any department has been hostile and borderline combative. You'll run the risk of the entire staff, doctors, and all of retaliation. It's a terrible shame because I got on quite well with everyone up til I dared open my mouth about a particular physician. I'm working with the insurance company regarding retaliation and poor treatment. Now, I'm even afraid to say anything at all for fear that this lousy attitude and the middle school girls they call assistants will follow me to another facility. I thought this was all in my head til the insurance company called to update the status of this case. Do yourself a favor and don't bother with this place. Please see real doctors with adults who will assist. I took screenshots of everything from MyChart. Oddly, one conversation has disappeared - the one I took exception to. I figure if the insurance commissioner or other governmental agencies get enough complaints, maybe it'll occur to them that they might decide to go back to practicing medicine instead of bullying patients who really need help. This place is horrendous, my father went to this facility with chest pains and was completely ignored. He went there feeling horrible and once he felt a smidge better they began rushing him out of the hospital into a normal bed( he was in an emergency room previously). They did an endoscopy and found nothing and immediately assumed he was perfectly fine despite him STILL being in tremendous pain and telling them of such. This was around Christmas and all of the staff seemed like they were in rush to get him out of there. My father died 3 days away from Christmas, his favorite holiday, because of neglectful behavior exhibited by the hospital staff. I wouldn't wish his fate or the grief of it all in anyone. I brought my brother to North Oaks for a urinary procedure and wish I'd thought to write down the names of everyone we encountered. Because from the young man in the coffee shop to every nurse and technician we encountered to those we just passed in the hallway, everyone went over the top to be friendly and kind and compassionate. My brother has cerebral palsy and is deaf, so he can be hard to communicate with. They were so tender and patient with him--everyone. They communicated with me and with him, letting us know anything they were about to do and why. It's encouraging to see people working in healthcare who are obviously there for the CARE part. They made my brother feel special and alleviated any worries he or I had. Can't thank you all enough. read more

I was admitted for low blood. I had to use the rest room and was afraid about messing up the bed. So the cna came in trying her best to unhook me from the machines. So, I called the nurse station because by this time there was a lot of air in my IV, my nurse was gone to lunch which is understandable. But here it is 35 minutes later and the others still refuses to come see what was wrong, and the dismantled my call button. Wow what a hospital...so much for patient care read more

My father was admitted to the emergency room last weekend after a concussion at a nearby motocross track. The track is about 20 mins away from the hospital. My father stayed at the hospital over the weekend and left the following Monday. The hospital was very clean and the nurses were very professional and made sure he was comfortable. He was never bathed or had his teeth brushed. I had make him brush his teeth. Due to his head injury all he did was sleep and was out of it, it was a severe concussion. I brought him home that Monday and later that week received the bill. $37,800 FOR THE WEEKEND! Also $3,200 for a 20 min ambulance ride. Its ridiculous how overpriced that was, thank god he has good medical insurance. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't who visits this hospital with an emergency. read more

Saved my life toot sweet! Complete total heart attack at 49! Already, what the hell! Knew what was happening as soon as I felt the clinched fist behind in my rib cage, directly behind my left pectoral chest muscle. Drove myself to the emergency room, walked in and stated, I think I'm having a heart attack! It wasn't 15 seconds after, the rear doors burst open and they took me back to triage! The emergency room was full of waiting patients, but I was truly expedited Acutely, and correctly so! The emergency room Dr. told me to brace myself, things are about to happen very rapidly! I heard his words, but damn did they roll that very thing out. I'm gonna tell ya what, it was after midnight, the entire Cath Lab crew had to be called in. The speed was beyond words. Within 45 minutes of my walking in to the ER, I had already been triaged, evaluated, complete team called in, and received a heart stent, and within that time, was in a room sipping juice and pissing into a plastic container! Good god man! What a wonderful world we are in! Owe my life to those awesome employs of North Oaks that night! I want to buy each of them a drink, and a beach house on the coast! read more

The 1 star is only for the Sleep Disorder Clinic. I had an at home sleep study and have had 2 follow up appointments. I showed up as scheduled. Waited 1.25 hours first time before leaving. Second appointment was for the first appointment at 8:30 am. I left at 9 without seeing the doctor. No wonder they were so far behind at 12:45 (1st appt.) If they can't even start the day off on time. read more

The first time I've called North Oaks I was having a skin allergy emergency and the lady on the phone was super rude to me and hung up on me. Then I called another section of the hosptial, the same lady answered and replied with "Didn't you just call?" then immediately hung up on me. I let it pass because thought maybe she was having a bad day. A couple of weeks ago I called North Oaks Walk-in Clinic in regard to Covid testing, and the woman on the phone told me rudely how this was only a screening center (as if I was supposed to know)... While the staff (nurses, aides, x-ray techs, etc.) are nice and seem caring for the most part, especially if you're an inpatient, the doctors and staff in the ER are horrible. I've had both good and bad experiences as an inpatient - bad was that I'm allergic to some testing contrast, which I information them about that and they were supposed to give me some medication to counteract allergic reaction beforehand but forgot. Luckily I was lucid, aware and smart enough to mention that they didn't give me the necessary prep when they came to take me for my test, otherwise I may have died. However, it is the ER that we've had the worst experiences for family and friends. One was told nothing was wrong when he was having a stroke - turns out a serious stroke that caused serious permanent damage. Luckily that person went to another ER right after leaving North Oaks and they found it, had to operate and he was in hospital for weeks. Another was told nothing was wrong and again went to a different ER the next day and that hospital found out that he had not 1 but 2 tumors that were so bad that the hospital had him transported by ambulance to a large hospital in New Orleans to have emergency surgery. This ER could kill you if you have something serious wrong with you because they miss a LOT of things and the administration doesn't seem to do anything about it, perhaps they just don't care since they're pretty much the only game in town. I was having chest pains and i couldnt get my blood pressure down. I waa hesitant to go to Northoaks because of stories neighbors had shared and we were fairly new to this area. However my heart doctor who was with the Hammond Heart Clinic had rescently transfered here My husband and i waited in an ER room all morning as they did test. 3 ekgs, put a needle in for blood labs but never hang an iv, a chest xray We waited The ER Dr had introduced himself when we first arrived around 8:30AM buf he never came back. No one offered us even so much as a bottle of water. No one explained what my test results were A lady from the business office came in saying I was going to be admitted. I told her no i wouldnt be staying. At this point i was definitly afraid of being alone in this hospital were nobody tells you anything. Shortly after a Dr came in saying he was from upstairs and I would be admittecfor observation. My husband and I both reiterated tohim that nobody had told us anything about my symptoms, test results, or what was happening He was a little disgusted and replied you mean they didnt tell you about admitting you, again we said NO! About that time the AWOL ER Dr poked his head in the door a second and said, oh your here, and left. The upstairs dr left. A nurse came in to take the needle out ( no iv) ( add dehydration) and she said she would bring me an Against Medical Advice form to sign, which I did. My husband helped me and we went home about 6 hours later around 3:15 pm. I will never go there again. It was pain and fear that weighed our decision to go to the closest ER but I understand now that Cypress has an ER and of course St Tammany is an excellent hospital and ER. Never again. Oh btw they then had the nerve to bill me for an Observation Admission and have denied this complaint saying the dr recorded explaining things. As God is my witness its a lie and my husband was absolutly a witness to it all. Greed along with cover up. Sadly they do have some great clinical drs that I will miss. The hospital ER Dr is pathetic. At least the one we saw. read more

The services here aren't very good. When you call and need to speak to your doctor or nurse you reach a service desk that is in a different location. Its very difficult to reach your own doctor's office. When they transfer you, nobody usually answers. When you leave a message they don't return your call. Their system is slow and doesn't work well. Very aggravating. read more

-1 star if I could. Came in here for a small wound and a few stitches back in May 2018. They wound up putting me into surgery and opening up my knee. Two days in hospital they tried to jack up the bill any way they could: unnecessary pills, crutches, physical therapists (TWO OF THEM) to see if I could use crutches properly. Staff was mostly ok but they would come and wake you up for something or other every 3 hours. Never got a decent sleep. Food horrible. Bill was nearly $30000 for the hospital and physician bills on top of that. Been making regular payments since I left and they sent portions of each physician bill (even though they were all getting paid) to collections. STAY AWAY. You will regret it. read more

Would not give them 1 star but I had to for me to give this review my mother went in there with a TOUCH of phenomenon her Dr. said, and that next day was her birthday when I went to see her for her birthday they had her in the Maturity Ward because they said they didn't have any other room for her, well after I left that night my mother had a stroke and when I call her the next day to see how she was felling she couldn't talk her words were very slurry and I couldn't understand her then the so call nurse told me she was about to give her a breathing treatment because she was having an ASTHMA ATTACK my mother did not have asthma and I tried to tell her this I also told her my daughter has asthma and could talk better then my mother was she still tried to say it was asthma I left work and went to this place ( I refuse to call a hospital) and when I walked into my mother's room the left side of her face was hanging and she could not say nothing but umm I looked at the so call nurse who was backing out the room and said get a Dr. NOW!!! then to make it even worse I left my mother that night talking a little (she said hungry and ate a sandwich) they called around 2am to say they couldn't wake her up when I made it there they said they had started her on blood thinners and she slipped into a coma all this happen within 3 days if they had been a decent hospital they would have seen she had a stroke and maybe just maybe she could have taken the drug that reverse the effects of a stroke I'll never know all I know is my mother who was living alone and getting alone just fine went in there and within 3 days they KILLED HER I still have family that live there but if they get sick I go get them and bring them to a real hospital and the worst part NO ONE said I'm sorry we miss the stroke. read more
