I am extremely disappointed and will make sure the VA knows that I will not be seen there again and the VA should reconsider using them.

The VA sent me to see Dr. Claytor about my back pain back in April 2024. He scheduled me for an…read moreMRI and a follow up when the results came back. After looking at the results, Dr. Claytor stated that I should try the 3 injections at Spine Care followed up by physical therapy instead of surgery. I went thru the 3 injections and 15 rounds of physical therapy with the back pain getting worse. I scheduled another appointment with him on June 21 and while sitting outside in the waiting room, Dr. Claytor came out to the front desk, and he didn't know I could hear him, and said, "Please tell Mr. Caudle there is nothing else I can do for him, he's VA." When I heard that, I didn't know what to think. I have BCBS insurance thru my work if VA didn't pay good enough. But just the fact that he said that pissed me off to the max. The fact that he wouldn't have the decency to talk to me in person to hear that the pain had gotten much worse and was now going down my left leg was very concerning. They called me up and said I could go see his nurse practioner at the other office, Erica. So I went over there and saw her. She is amazing and caring. Something Dr. Claytor is very lacking. I told her what he had said and she was dumbfounded. She ordered another MRI to see what had changed from the first MRI and said she would follow up with me with the results. A week later, I went back to see her and sure enough, it had gotten worse. But, I would not be willing to let Dr. Claytor even operate on my pinky toe at this point. I had already let the VA know this and they totally understood. I had the nurse at University Ortho send the results to the VA. The Neurologist looked at it and agreed that surgery was indeed needed at this point. They are now scheduling me to have the needed surgery at UAB. As far as Dr. Claytor goes, I would run, espcially if you are a United States Veteran.

Since I cannot give a zero, I have to give 1. This was the worst experience I have ever had and I…read morehave had surgery on both coasts and in Europe. Dr. Bassett and I spoke about my previous surgery and how much pain I had been in. He promised to aggressively handle the pain so I would have no issues. I just had my c-5,6 & 7 fused. I was told he would see me before surgery and answer any questions I might have. He never came! After surgery, he never came to see me. Nor the next morning! As if he hadn't shown through his inaction how little he cared, he prescribed me 5mg Percocet every8 hours. EVERY 8 HOURS??? I explained this to three local reputable doctors and each said it was the most ridiculous prescription after major surgery that they have ever seen. Said it's tantamount to malpractice!! That prescription was absolutely insane and ridiculous!! After major surgery??? I went back to see him and explained how much pain I was in because it's IMPOSSIBLE to be pain free or manageable with a 5mg Percocet 3 times a day!! So he said, to my face, that he will up the dosage for the pain I am in. I didn't notice how often it was prescribed, but I saw it was now a 7.5 mg Percocet but prescribed for 2 per day! 12hours????? Do the math, that's even worse than the previous script. I really was shocked and hurt how little Bassett cared about what I was going through. I know that two days after surgery, I ruptured the discs again in an accident. I went back and naturally Bassett hid behind his staff and wouldn't even talk to me. I asked him to send me for an MRI because the pain was EXCRUCIATING!!! He refused and said I just needed physical therapy. I went and got an MRI which showed the injury I explained. I asked what I was supposed to do because the pain was virtually unbearable!!! He said he wouldn't write another script because they wrote two already. As I explained two that can't work were prescribed. It had only been 9 days since surgery and I was told that it's not his responsibility to manage pain and I would have to go find a pain management doctor?!! At only 9 days since my surgery?? While I am in incredible pain?!! Who knows when I could get an appointment? He said there's nothing he could do about it. This "Dr" is a joke and has more than proven that he's there for a paycheck and doesn't give a damn about me! If you enjoy being ignored and mistreated, Dr. Bassett is your guy. If you like being looked down on and spoken to rudely by 19 year olds sorority girls? If you want to feel like you are mot cared for at all. If you want to have a Dr who makes you feel like a burden?...Bassett IS your doctor!! And this person calls and promotes himself as a Christian?? LOL!! Yeah that's hilarious in itself! Karma will come! Believe me!
