She is now a thriving and productive senior. Most of all a happy young lady. Bullying is REAL at this school

My son is shy, a bit physically awkward, and dealing with diagnosed social anxiety. As you might imagine, he's a prime target for school bullying, which became so intense during his sophomore year of high school, that he couldn't bring himself to return. His confidence and self-esteem were shattered, as were we. At the end of that summer, days before the start of the new school year, we found an opening at York and anxiously paid a $10K retainer fee. Within 36 hours after writing that check, we learned that the chief bully, the ringleader of the harassment, was also transferring to York. An unbelievable and untenable coincidence. My son's therapist warned us that this would be a harmful situation and strongly advised us, in writing, to find another school. When we informed the administrators at York Prep about this last-minute development, and asked for the retainer to be refunded -- I remind you that the ink was barely dry on the check -- they said, "Sorry, we won't do that. You signed a retainer agreement and must forfeit your $10K". This was now just TWO DAYS before classes started! They also implied that we'd need a lawyer if we wanted to fight for a refund. The callousness York exhibited here, with no regard for my son's emotional health, and unfairly keeping our retainer after less-than two days, may be a cautionary tale for parents considering this school. On a positive note, we did find another school in the city that has provided academic excellence within a safe and nurturing community. My son is thriving, he's happy, and he's excelling as a student.

They have a program called Jump Start for students who need a little more help learning, such as students with dyslexia, and also a scholars program with a variety of interesting and unusual topics like American Cults and Cartography. Students can be seen smoking weed, cigars and vaping, and nothing is done about it. Kids frequently make out in bathroom stalls, raising questions about safety and monitoring. The school seriously needs to improve its security and staff oversight, because these problems should not be slipping under the radar.

Seems, the last 5 years or so - a live on stage production does the Switcharoo.All the students (kids)do the producing,directing,choreograph, lights camera and action. All the actors are Adults (playing kids rolls) As in this noted production. A first for us, and a brief questioning of um confusion in seeing, an older gentleman playing the High School all around jock. Ahh I get it (after it was explained to me!) All nicely done, very entertaining, much comradery, appreciation and thank yous said and a particularly high energy spirit in the audience. (see pix) Seems that the lead performer was hospitalized for needed heart surgery and the stand in did so on short notice performed beautifully. They even had a collection for the Heart association. The evening before, on Friday there were some different actors and performers and crew putting on the show. Some were in the audience on Saturday. One young man named Joe, along with friends, sat behind us and were doing the dance moves. Others in the audience were clapping, and cheering their approval with much positive energy. Seeing it all and taking it in, it was a refreshing change and overall, it was, FUN.

I attended Manhattan University (then Manhattan College) as an undergraduate approximately two…read moreyears ago, after being enrolled at the institution four years prior. During my time there, I was required to take a religious studies course taught by a professor who demonstrated a clear ideological bias. When I respectfully disagreed with her philosophical views, she responded by mocking me and ostracizing me in front of the class, using her authority as a professor to do so. After this behavior escalated, I disengaged from class participation. After I did this, the professor abruptly left the lecture. After she came back, she asked me to stay after class. During that conversation, I stated that I believed the situation warranted getting the dean involved. The dean told me that I should apologize to the professor regardless of whether I was right or wrong, which I did. The professor was not held to the same standard. A week later, I was given the opportunity to be transferred out of the course mid-semester. I found this unprofessional and disruptive, but I agreed to do so because the environment no longer felt safe or conducive to learning. The replacement course required me to complete all missed coursework independently, placing the burden of the situation entirely on me. This experience reflected a broader pattern I observed at the institution, a lack of concern for students well being and a tendency to treat students as obstacles to administrative efficiency rather than individuals. Based on my cumulative experiences, I would strongly caution prospective students to consider other options.

Not culturally appropriate towards other students nor staff, not understanding that some people speak different languages. This is their structure precisely, the hours ran from 8:45am-11:45am three days a week due to low numbers. The teachers couldn't even bother to ask them to walk, but have the students running, and eloping. Unfortunately early intervention is not a thing here because they assume that they can just take away autism. Please with the resources we have today, it's important to value your children and their learning. None of the students had any fine gross motor skills, they have trouble with words, shapes. Most projects are being done by the teacher so that's why they look amazing. It is unfortunate that the don't even know what curriculum they teach, I've practiced Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and even the Waldorf approach. None of those approaches were practiced at this church school. Genuinely this place is questionable and I recommend elsewhere, for the sake of your child's readiness.
