We also have started going back this fall (2022) for intermittent OT support as our son has gotten better, but still benefits from occasional sessions. Our son works with Ms Jillian who is a phenomenal OT. She is kind, funny, warm, and so creative! When she started working with our son, he was starting second grade as a non-writer (but on target with other skills). She quickly figured out he has weak fine motor skills (exacerbated by a previous wrist break at a trampoline park). Honestly, to see his progress over two years later is nothing short of incredible. She makes handwriting fun! Professionally I am actually a speech pathologist and I can tell this is a great private practice clinic. With respect to a previous review mentioning staffing concerns, I would like to share that this is happening everywhere right now (private practices, schools, hospitals, etc). Speech, OT, and PT are in high demand across the Chicagoland area and there are vacancies everywhere (due to shortages in the profession and Covid making those shortages worse). That being said I have not seen or heard of any staffing issues at Step Forward, from the parent perspective. We love it here!

I would advice to completely keep your children away from this place, especially when it comes to…read moretherapies. When we first started, we were happy with our therapy team. Then very quickly, within several months, everyone on our team starting to leave. Our son has Down syndrome so it's important to have him get all three therapies: OT, PT and speech at least once weekly. But we gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited until they filled in the spots. We waited months for a second session per week that was never met because they said their PT wasn't available and unable to fit us in. Well, I just saw that our son's PT was also working the preschool side of their business (which is not a good excuse for being unable to fit us in if they claim to be a therapy clinic). So on top of not having enough therapists for their therapy customers, they have them work the preschool side as well (our original PT had said they worked both, which I'm guessing is a large part of why he left). So this week, our son's "new" OT who had only been there weeks is leaving asap with no heads up with no replacement. This place is disorganized and unprofessional. I've had 2-3 separate people calling or texting me with the same scheduling issues or questions. There is no central manager, and management is non-existent at best. Billing is even worse. Then, because we felt we had to leave because they couldn't meet our son's needs (and this was the third time we were told to wait for a therapist replacement in less than a half year), they sent an email demanding remaining balance due within a week because we were "no longer clients!!" I've never been treated so poorly and unprofessionally by a clinical office ever in my life. That is not how billing should work because they haven't even finished filing claims for therapy services through our insurance. Plus, they never answered my questions on why billing amounts ranged so differently by even over a hundred dollars for the same services. I'm not an expert in billing, but their billing manager Jackie should be fired for treating families so poorly. I even tried to work out a payment system with them when our HSA funds each pay period (so the balance would be paid in a couple of months), to which she replied with a demand that full balance be paid immediately (in 2 days, no less) with full payment due immediately as soon as they process the insurance claims. I have a lot of medical issues, and I even delayed my insulin pump and diabetic supplies and stretch them further to make it a priority to pay their clinic. It's like they act like some loan shark mobster group or something in the way they demand payment. I've never seen a clinic act in such a way. And if it's due to desperation because they are so poorly managed (I don't know why else they would act this way), then that's even more reason to stay away. So if you are looking for a therapy clinic or even a preschool with consistent staff who treat their clients respectfully and professionally, my advice is to run away as fast as possible.

Needless to say, that was NOT working for us! My son needs more intensive (weekly!) services. Turning Wheels Therapy came recommended by another professional we saw. The owner, Amy, worked with me to get my son in for both therapies on the same scheduled day, and at a time that luckily worked with our crazy schedule. I am SO appreciative of that!! My son really enjoys his OT with Erin and his Speech with Kelsey. Both have been great with my questions. Erin especially has been great with providing me with resources and information regarding OT-based activities and supports. They are currently remodeling their basement area to better accommodate OT/equipment, and I am excited to see the final results! I am very happy that we found private services that works for us. First of all, they were suggested to me by the Kenneth Young center, which I find odd in retrospect. I was told at the start that every attempt would be made to achieve consistency. But suspiciously, I was discouraged by Ursula the nurse to try to meet any of the caregivers to give them a tour of where things are in my 88 year old mother's house. Then I found out why: Over a period of about 2 and a half months my mom has had 15 or more different people coming to her house. Her schedule is by no means demanding: Just 4 hours 6 nights a week and 5 hours two days a week. 2 or 3 people should easily be able to cover such a schedule. I never realized the vast amount of different people because all the invoices come 2 weeks after the date. One woman seemed to come regularly and my mom liked her and the caregiver knew what to do, but often it was some new person filling in a shift who a) my mom didn't know and b) didn't know what to do or how to do it. About four times no one showed up at all, and once a woman left early because she had to drive to another town to care for someone. Because of the inconsistency of staff, the quality of work really suffered. I think they tried and it certainly wasn't the caregiver's fault, but they just had no idea what was going on. More importantly, it really soured my mom on having caregivers come at all because it was like being invaded by an unhelpful stranger all the time. I complained about this to the manager and she told me they were understaffed and having a major crisis. Previous to that, I had complained about the inconsistency to Ursula and she told me the caregivers just picked up whatever shift they wanted and the managers had no control over it! This is not the impression I was given when we signed up. I feel I was lied to more or less. When I finally realized how many people were coming, I complained once again and was told in a vague way they would talk about it at their next meeting. All in all I complained to three of the upper management and they did absolutely nothing. In fact, there was a lot of passing of the buck. Home Instead is the company I switched to and they took the time to design a schedule with 3 caregivers for my mom. I'm sorry this business is having problems; perhaps the quality will improve when they lose enough clients. I called to cancel service and told them I'd be quitting in 2 days, the last day being Wednesday. Guess what, *no one* came to my mother's house that last day. I had to go help my mom on what should have been a day off.

Last Monday November 25 I called at 8 AM to notify patient coordinator that my babies are sick and we have to cancel our 3 PM appointment. In an hour I received 2 reminders about our upcoming appointments, so I called again to make sure the care coordinator really cancelled my appointments. I was assured that she cancelled and these reminders I got are came automatically. When I asked Why I have to pay "non showing fee" the care coordinator named Des'Ree said I had to notify her 24 hours upfront. Ok, how I can predict all sickness which can happen with 14 months twins? I notified her 7 hours upfront as soon as possible.To say that I was angry is to say nothing. In October the same care coordinator charged me for 30 minutes sessions as a one hour session. So in that case I also didn't get any clarification. I want to say that with previous care coordinator we did not have any issues. She always greeted us compare to a new lady who never say any kind of greetings for me or for babies. I guess small kids deserve a little "care" .At the same day outstanding balances were removed from both accounts. One day later these "fees" appeared again on my babies accounts. One of the oldest adoption agencies in the Chicagoland area should be self sustaining with proper financial control, but yet 4 fundraisers for the Teen Parenting Program over the last year. They went an entire year with no adoptions. Avoid this agency like the plague if you want to complete your family. Why they have the creator of a parenting Program as the leader is beyond me. They enjoyed their patients and responded nicely to them. Family were able to ask questions and got responses. This is NOT JUST ONE family with the following. You talk with others while there: The "Social Worker " is not certified from what I was told. Rolando, is USELESS. He says he will help find a place once the patient is leaving. He DID NOT. We had to push, ask questions, meet, etc. NOTHING was really offered. He finally said he had phone numbers to give us. That piece of paper with 10 facilities on it, was USELESS. I found 2 to be possibilities but those didn't pan out. On most, there is no distinction which are rehab, asst living, nursing. WHY THEY HIRE SOMEONE in this position, I do NOT understand. Anyone can hand out a paper or cards and leave if up to the family. He DID NOT make call/connections for us. He did tell us that they have info for those WHO CAN PAY which I figure is probably their 1st or 2nd floor residents. BE CAREFUL as Rolando will have an exit date. IF it is NOT reasonable, speak up. He was going to send MOM home by AMBULANCE as she was not mobile. I asked what we do once she arrives. He then changed the date. She was able to walk with assistance when she left on a later date. So, the patient is treated well, and rehab is good. IF you have lots of money to cover for residence afterwards, it's probably OK. However, there are even NICER places if you search ALDEN, Arbor Terrace in Naperville, Sunrise, some of the Heritage Woods, Asbury Gardens, Victory Center of Bartlett. Research and find one.
