Business must be good because they've expanded to Evanston. While amazing for them, I was bummed to…read morehear that my daughter's physical therapist, the fab Leida, was going to the Evanston location. We had the choice of staying with her or trying a new therapist named Marcy. My initial reaction was to go with Leida because spending an hour with her had become one of the highlights of my daughter's week. However, the more I thought about the dreaded Evanston traffic (especially at the time of our appointment- 5pm) I thought staying in Highland Park would make more sense. And so we decided to test out Marcy. It turns out my daughter enjoys spending time with Marcy just as much as she did with Leida. It probably didn't hurt that Marcy quickly picked up on her love of all things princesses and pulled out the princess puzzles, books, etc from day one. My daughter greets her with the biggest smile every week and can't wait to tell me about all the fun things they did together on the way home. And most importantly I've seen lots of great progress as I've watched her jump and climb higher (perhaps a bit too high) than she's ever been able to in the past. Based on the hour I spend waiting/working from the waiting room every week I don't think you can go wrong with any therapist here, but if you're looking for PT I highly recommend Marcy. And if Evanston makes more sense for you Leida is your gal!

The consultation recommended some additional 1:1 with a therapist..an amazing therapist but more on that later. Although not worried about my little buddy I also wasn't going to stick my head in the sand and ignore a potential problem so I quickly got on-board. Next step was my wife crying in the waiting room as our not yet 3 yo went in for his 1:1, full disclosure I wasn't there or would have been a blubbering mess!! Then my son starts talking about Ms. Meghan who I assume is a new teacher at pre-school..but then he starts asking about seeing her the day before a non-school day and I finally occurs to me to ask my lovely wife who Ms Meghan is??! Meghan is the amazing therapist referred to above (see you didn't have to wait too long!) that my son has grown to love seeing as much as he loves seeing his cat (and that's a lot!!). Of equal, ok of more importance is the development of his language skills. He has made great progress with Meghan's help and I have even less concerns that he will just as verbose as his mom and dad. Thank you Meghan and North Shire Pediatric!!

Within 15 minutes I was taken back into a room. The nurse came in and saw me ten minutes later. In total, I spent four hours there - having a number of tests, etc., before being discharged. Wow. I know that ERs get busy, and maybe I showed up at the right time, but the speed of care delivery and the friendliness of the staff blew me away.

I was diagnosed with COVID on 1/14/26, I have asthma and was having trouble breathing. I was diagnosed with COVID at Endeavor's immediate care sister location. My physician there told me to immediately go to the ER with any signs of trouble breathing, given I had been hospitalized before because of COVID. 1/15/26 My husband drove me to the ER at 8pm. The waiting room was full with other patients. The front desk clerk was empathetic and checked me in with my husband telling her my symptoms. We sat and waited 40 minutes before they took my vitals. At that time we encountered 2 rude snotty nurses. One typing on the computer asking what was going on (A nurse) and the other taking my vitals (B nurse). The one on the computer asked what was wrong, I stated I have a bad cough and trouble breathing. Which she snarkily replied "Yeah but that tends to come with covid". I informed her of my medical history. The 2nd nurse taking my vitals (B nurse) was rushing and was rough with me. She checked my blood pressure but looked away while my arm was turning bright red and numb from the machine. A nurse told me I can wait outside, mind you, I still had the oxygen and blood pressure equipment on me still. They did not care for my well being, only to rush me out so they could gossip again. Another 40 minutes go by and I get called for blood work. C nurse was very polite and empathetic as well. When C nurse pulled me to the back, A and B nurse were gossiping again. B nurse said "ugh everytime I do 1 another 2 come in. I just can't keep up hahaha". I informed C nurse I had blood work done at the immediate care the day before, and was trying to go in the same spot to prevent further bruises. Another 30 minutes go and I got called for an x-ray. The physician was very efficient and quick. He informed me it would be 40 minutes before the specialist could read my chart. I went back to my seat in the waiting room. While waiting, there were elderly people who were there 6 hours with new arrivals being helped before them. People that were "fine" when they came in, but saw the room filled so they constantly harassed the staff about waiting, even though they were there 20 minutes. They made fake groaning and moaning noises, even getting louder for attention, they got helped first. In the words of the staff "at least you guys don't have to hear her anymore" But that's when others started leaving or being vocal about not being helped yet. My husband asked the desk how much longer for me, because I was still having trouble breathing and it was already midnight. They stated "I don't know but there's at least 4 more people were ahead of you" That's when we decided to give them 1 last hour before leaving ourselves. When we did decide to leave, we checked out at the desk to inform them we were leaving because of the wait time. In the middle of our conversation, another nurse walked in on us talking with the desk clerk, heard us wanting to leave. Which she sighed loudly and rolled her eyes. I will never ever go back to this ER. The most unprofessional group of human beings I've ever encountered in the medical field. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO WORK WITH PEOPLE, GET OUT OF THE MEDICAL FIELD. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO DEAL WITH GROUPS OF PEOPLE IN PAIN, THEN DON'T WORK IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM. It is known emergency rooms are more packed at night then the day. Then why hire unkind rude people to deal with the public? The only way I would've got attention is if I made a scene whining and crying or dropped dead on the floor from asphyxiation. Because clearly, my medical history or the current state I was in coughing loudly the entire time, showing I was having trouble breathing, was not enough for them.

We also have started going back this fall (2022) for intermittent OT support as our son has gotten better, but still benefits from occasional sessions. Our son works with Ms Jillian who is a phenomenal OT. She is kind, funny, warm, and so creative! When she started working with our son, he was starting second grade as a non-writer (but on target with other skills). She quickly figured out he has weak fine motor skills (exacerbated by a previous wrist break at a trampoline park). Honestly, to see his progress over two years later is nothing short of incredible. She makes handwriting fun! Professionally I am actually a speech pathologist and I can tell this is a great private practice clinic. With respect to a previous review mentioning staffing concerns, I would like to share that this is happening everywhere right now (private practices, schools, hospitals, etc). Speech, OT, and PT are in high demand across the Chicagoland area and there are vacancies everywhere (due to shortages in the profession and Covid making those shortages worse). That being said I have not seen or heard of any staffing issues at Step Forward, from the parent perspective. We love it here!

I would advice to completely keep your children away from this place, especially when it comes to…read moretherapies. When we first started, we were happy with our therapy team. Then very quickly, within several months, everyone on our team starting to leave. Our son has Down syndrome so it's important to have him get all three therapies: OT, PT and speech at least once weekly. But we gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited until they filled in the spots. We waited months for a second session per week that was never met because they said their PT wasn't available and unable to fit us in. Well, I just saw that our son's PT was also working the preschool side of their business (which is not a good excuse for being unable to fit us in if they claim to be a therapy clinic). So on top of not having enough therapists for their therapy customers, they have them work the preschool side as well (our original PT had said they worked both, which I'm guessing is a large part of why he left). So this week, our son's "new" OT who had only been there weeks is leaving asap with no heads up with no replacement. This place is disorganized and unprofessional. I've had 2-3 separate people calling or texting me with the same scheduling issues or questions. There is no central manager, and management is non-existent at best. Billing is even worse. Then, because we felt we had to leave because they couldn't meet our son's needs (and this was the third time we were told to wait for a therapist replacement in less than a half year), they sent an email demanding remaining balance due within a week because we were "no longer clients!!" I've never been treated so poorly and unprofessionally by a clinical office ever in my life. That is not how billing should work because they haven't even finished filing claims for therapy services through our insurance. Plus, they never answered my questions on why billing amounts ranged so differently by even over a hundred dollars for the same services. I'm not an expert in billing, but their billing manager Jackie should be fired for treating families so poorly. I even tried to work out a payment system with them when our HSA funds each pay period (so the balance would be paid in a couple of months), to which she replied with a demand that full balance be paid immediately (in 2 days, no less) with full payment due immediately as soon as they process the insurance claims. I have a lot of medical issues, and I even delayed my insulin pump and diabetic supplies and stretch them further to make it a priority to pay their clinic. It's like they act like some loan shark mobster group or something in the way they demand payment. I've never seen a clinic act in such a way. And if it's due to desperation because they are so poorly managed (I don't know why else they would act this way), then that's even more reason to stay away. So if you are looking for a therapy clinic or even a preschool with consistent staff who treat their clients respectfully and professionally, my advice is to run away as fast as possible.
