After checking out Lutsen, my friend and I decided to stop by this winery. I particularly was interested because they offer cider tasting which is not really common for most places. I do enjoy ciders, so I didn't hesitate much before choosing this option. The tasting is also very reasonably priced at $8. For their tasting, they usually have 4 pre-selected choices and one that they choose for that time. I enjoyed all of the options. Some did have more of a unique taste considering it was made from a certain type of minnesotan apple. But it was great to try. I really also love the ambience. They have ample seating inside and outside. They sell meats/cheese and offer supplies so you can make your own charcuterie board, which was cool. It was a very chill atmosphere where you can sit, wine down and talk with friends/company. It's a nice way to relax and kill time. read more

Cutest winery! The building was pretty cool, plenty of seating inside and outside. There were lawn games, a firepit for folks to sit around and just some fun random sculptures to see. My husband and I both tried a flight of their wines and it was quite tasty! They also had ciders, cheese, meats and crackers. There were a variety of apparels, paintings and cards for sale as well. The staff were friendly and service was prompt. Such a fun place for day date or for the whole family. Highly recommended! read more

What a great vineyard! Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to meet up with friends. This is a very beautiful place with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Super friendly staff! I had the premium flight and my gf had a glass of Mary's Chardonnay. Great way to experience several of their delish wines. You can also order some small snacks. My husband and I love this winery and always try visit when we are up north. They sell wine and cider by the glass, bottle or tasting flight. There are four different options for tastings. You get 5 tastings for $16. Bottles of wine are $25-30. Really cool environment inside and out! You've got to check out the walking trail too! Free parking lot outside that does get a little muddy when the snow melts. Super friendly staff! read more

There are some very unique flavors in both ciders and wines, and you can grab a bottle to go too. Nice outdoor seating areas. Wish there was more coverage for rainy days. This is THE spot in the Tofte/Lutsen area! I am truly blown away by our recent experience here. It's super close to Lutsen skiing and resorts making it the perfect apres ski spot! You can get both wine and cider here which pleases all crowds! The cider is made here from MN apples, and the grapes are actually brought in from California and wine is made here - making the wine quality truly exceptional. When we arrived we were instantly greeted by the owner/manager and staff - they were so lovely! We found out they had live music so decided to hunker down for the afternoon. I enjoyed both a cider flight and red wine flight, and found both to be incredible. I loved the Porch in' cider - ginger with a hint of mint was so crisp and refreshing. The Lutsen - a Cab and Syrah blend - was my favorite red, but I loved them all. Again, truly next level quality from CA grapes! We had so much fun - the vibes were great in the tasting room, and you could tell everyone who came (it filled up completely by 3pm!) was loving it. There's nothing like being surrounded by barrels and string lights. They offer charcuterie snacks as well, and sell some swag and local artwork and prints. We got some of everything! We loved the wine so much we bought cases to give bottles as welcome gifts to our Airbnb guests. You've gotta go! read more

This summer was my first time coming to North Shore Winery- and it definitely won't be my last! Like many wineries, there is a very relaxing atmosphere with a large outdoor area and a variety of seating, including seating and tables around the building, a covered deck, barstools and tables in the grass, and picnic tables around the property. I ordered inside the building and the lady helping me at the cash register was very welcoming, and she also let us know they were having outdoor live music that night. I sat at a picnic table outside and ordered a cider flight, which let me try 5 different ciders for $8 (a VERY reasonable price). My friends ordered a white wine flight and a mixed flight (shown in photo). My favorite of the flight was the Razzzzzz, and I ended up having a full glass of it after the flight because I loved the tangy yet sweet flavor notes. One other I thought was very unique was Charlie's, which was meant to imitate the taste of an old fashioned. I thought it was very unique and am excited to come back and try more of their ciders/wines! read more

Loved this place. We happened to drive by and found it. Was wondering what was at the top of Lutsen Mountain and drove by this place. It was closed but when I looked it up I found out it was date night on Thur from 7-9pm. It was super easy to make a reservation. We were a little early but seated immediately. I think the reservation guaranteed you an inside table to enjoy the live music. There were lots of people sitting outside and listening through a screen door. There are no servers so you order then go to your table. As we were new, we took the menus to our table to take some time to decide. I chose a mixed flight of reds and whites. Husband had a flight of ciders. Fun to try so many different options. I ended up buying a rose and a red bottle to take home. It came in a nice reusable tote bag. Live music was very enjoyable. Kind of bluesy. I didn't recognize a ton of songs but one I did was Take a Closer Walk with Thee. Fun date night for sure. read more

A truly wonderful little winery (and cider house) on the North Shore! At the base of Lutsen Mountains, it's popular with skiers and snowboarders, but should be a must-do on your next North Shore getaway. Combined with its sister Sawtooth Mountain Cider House, the intimate space has great, friendly service. Using Minnesota apples and grapes from California (yes, you read that right), it's a perfect date night or Aprés Ski hangout. Prices are very affordable (our group of 4 did flights). White wine flights were $10 for 6 white varietals and a mixed flight of 3 whites, 1 rosé and 2 reds were $12. Wines are the best I've had in Minnesota, which wasn't surprising. Most wines using grapes grown in the state are drinkable at best. North Shore Winery is an exception - the California grapes make all the difference! There are some snacks available and in the warmer months, they host live music on their small amphitheater. read more

What a nice little gem. We spotted the North Shore Winery and the (same facility) Sawtooth Mountain Cider House on our way up the mountain to our room at Eagle Ridge. We popped in one evening for a drink. It's a small place, with a bar and some of those wine barrel tables. They mostly serve wine but do have a smaller selection of ciders too. The place is really nice looking, and it is super inviting. We walked up around sunset, and were immediately invited in by the firepit and ring of chairs and the beautiful Instagram-worthy basket of blankets just inviting us to sit down. On the day we were there, we happened to go on the day of the week when they are open late and have a musical act. The trio that was there was really fantastic. We appreciated their music and the atmosphere they brought. Our server was super nice and friendly. I fell in love with the Herbie's cider and basically drank it all weekend because it's on tap everywhere in the area. It is a super easy drinker, tart and not too sweet. What a great find and a gem of a winery right off of Highway 61 in Lutsen. Staff was very knowledgeable and so friendly. I had the premium flight and enjoyed each of them along with some tasty truffles. I ended up buying a couple of bottles and one they'd wrapped up beautifully for a thanksgiving gift. Such a cute spot right next to Lutsen ski hill. It would be the perfect place to go hang out after a long day of skiing. The wine wasn't the best wine I've ever had, but it did the trick. The cider, however, was really good. I got the Charlie's blend and enjoyed the mix. The inside is really cute but doesn't have a ton of sitting room. The outside has lots of seating and campfire areas to sit by. I didn't see any food options but I also didn't look too closely. The prices are very reasonable as well. I'm so glad we found this place while we were in the area! I got the "premium" flight, which is their red wine flight. Most of their grapes come from Lodi, CA. I normally prefer dry reds, and everything in the flight was good! Nothing was bold, but that's perfect for sitting outside on a warm summer day. The place was very clean. All of the tables had a clean/dirty sign on the table so you know if it had been sanitized yet. All of the staff wore masks and you are required to wear one as well any time you're inside. There is plenty of outdoor seating, even some fairly far away from the building, almost in the trees. So, if yoire looking to not hang around many people, but still get out, this place is perfect. A reservation is not required, but if you make one, you are guaranteed a dry spot if it rains. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because I would have liked to create my own flight instead of only having one red wine flight option. Other than that, everything was great! What a fun experience. They've nailed wine tasting. Great indoor and outdoor spaces even in cold weather. Ambiance 5 - love the north woods feel. Lots of great spaces to gather as smaller groups. Accessibility 5 - easy to park. Easy to get in. Easy to find space for a group. Staff 5 - we had two teenagers in our group and their staff did a great job making them feel part of the group. Us adults had wine flights. And we would have gotten the teen eye roll and I'm bored checkout, but their staff did an outstanding job engaging with our whole group. Nestled a little off the beaten path outside of Lutsen, MN sits North Shore Winery. It's a great outdoor expanse of wooden sitting areas with fire pits all surrounded by Lake Superior's natural north shore beauty. We didn't stay long because we wanted to get back to our campsite before dark, but I thoroughly enjoyed the flight I ordered consisting of 5 of their premium reds. My favorite was their Cabernet Savignon. It's very full bodied with nice acidity and some pretty noticeable tannins. Went for their Thursday "date night" and live music. Beautiful night on the patio. We got there about 20 min before the live music started and glad we did because it was packed shortly after. The community and other patrons were so nice (Minnesota-Nice to be exact) and chatted with locals. The staff were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The little things make a place great like remembering our names every time we ordered! They had great wines with some local grapes from southern MN as well as some great grapes from CA. Did some cider samplings too and then snagged a few bottles to go home. Their meat and cheese selection was great too and tons of free oyster crackers. Loved our night here. read more

I really enjoyed my wine flights. I had the mixed and the red only. I ended up leaving with 6 bottles! The cider flight was very refreshing too (I tried my husbands). My favorite was the Hari Kari Bourban. I'm usually not a bourban aged fan but it gave the wine a nice depth without adding sweet notes. The Marquette was pretty tasty too! This is a great winery, conveniently located next to the ski resort. Great seating inside and outside, even in the winter time. Staff and service were great. They had an option for buying cheese, crackers, and chocolate. However, you do have to buy whole items and kind of make your plate (ie whole block of cheese, whole box of crackers) They had a good variety of red and white wine flights as well. Unfortunately I wasn't the biggest fan of some of the wine, there were a few a like and I did take home a couple of bottles.
