Mandatory stop while Up North. Their pizza is always made to order and they are very generous with their ingredients. While you're there you MUST try their malts. They're rich and creamy, and always made with freshly brewed espresso. Do keep in mind two things: *They're a seasonal business, like many along the North Shore, so check their schedule if you're close to the end of the season. *they close at 4pm, so make sure you plan ahead Small shop, but they provide plenty of outdoor seating around it.

This place has become a staple for our family over the years. It started as a nice place to stop for a shake, and transformed into an all around must stop. We've tried their shakes/malts, scones, pizzas, wraps, bagels, and more! We've enjoyed everything we've had and the staff is always welcoming. Pro tip: add a shot of espresso to your shake/malt - the flavor pairs well with vanilla or chocolate without being overpowering. Note: they close pretty early, so make sure to check before heading over. There is also no indoor seating so expect to eat at a table outside, in your car, or bring it back to your hotel/campsite.

Everything on the side of the building tells you what they offer!

We have been coming up to Tofte area for years. We knew of the standard places to stop and we stopped here once two years ago for coffee and thought it was pretty good. Finally decided to try their donuts and caramel rolls... Get them while they're hot! They're wonderful and all made right there. It's a hidden gem in the area. Everything on the side of the building tells you what they offer! Great service and high-quality food. Trust me, I'm a baker, and I know good quality baking goods when I eat them!

On a recent trip up to the North Shore we were looking for a spot where we could pick up breakfast and lunch to go. After a quick search on Yelp it seemed that Schroeder Baking Company was the top choice. Since it was right on the way it was an easy exit to get to. The inside space is small and during COVID they only allow 2 people in the building at the same time. They have an awesome showcase of doughnuts and a variety of other pastries. I couldn't pass up the scones and got two cranberry orange. They were simply delicious. We also tried the berry smoothie. Although it was tasty I found it a little too sweet. Everything here is pretty much made to go. There is lots of seating on the grounds available. A perfect place to stop if you're in the area.

While driving from Lutsen to Duluth, there aren't that many choices. I was pleased to find the Schroeder Baking Company on Yelp, which saved me from having to eat at a gas station-style place. The menu seems split between sandwiches and calzones. Having had enough pizza-like foods since arriving in the area 3 days earlier, I opted for the sandwich side- getting a turkey and Swiss sandwich. There were a few different styles of bread- I got the sourdough, expecting a cut loaf with nice crusty exterior, but the actual bread was more like a hot dog roll. At first I thought that maybe they used the wrong type, but from looking at the sandwiches that other people got, seems all their bread looks like hot dog rolls. Maybe that's a Minnesota thing? The real star was the brownie I got for dessert. That was delicious.

Great food and service!! A must stop if you are in the area! The pizza and nachos were great! All of their morning pastries are fabulous too!

After hiking the trails at Temperance River State Park, I came here for a hot lunch and maybe something sweet, possibly breakfast for the next day if they had anything left. For lunch I got a sausage and pepperoni calzone, with some marinara on the side for dipping. Absolutely 10/10: hot and freshly made to order, crispy on the outside, plenty of meat & cheese on the inside. Delicious. And lucky for me, there were a few caramel rolls left, so I grabbed two - and to be honest, I couldn't wait until tomorrow to try one. Wow. The perfect balance of sweet dough (slightly crispy but not overdone), cinnamon and creamy caramel covering the whole thing. I will be back every time I'm up here, so good!!

Schroeder Baking Co. is a must stop when you're on the north shore. We went multiple times as we couldn't get enough of their sticky, caramel rolls. 20 seconds in the microwave & they're indulgent perfection! They also make a great maple latte. Such good flavor & great quality espresso. No morning complaints here! We also tried their chocolate hazelnut croissant as well as their apple walnut strudel pastry and both were fresh with the right combo of flavoring. Also, take a 2 minute walk north along the sidewalk to view cross river falls. This is definitely a required, and repeatable, pit stop. Their staff is so friendly & covid precautions were safely in place.

Maple Pecan Danish, Chocolate Hazelnut Crossiant, Cherry Turnover

This place was spectacular! My husband and I stopped by on our vacation because we saw it driving past. It looked like a cute, mom and pop bakery. It was so much more! We ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese on an English muffin- standard, but made fresh and hot. Good quality and quantity of bacon and well melted cheese. We also ordered a Maple Pecan Danish and Chocolate Hazelnut Crossiant, per their recommendation. Both were amazing. Also got a cherry turnover. All three of these had flaky, buttery layers and incredible flavor. I heard their scones were good, but they were sold out 1 hour after opening (when we arrived). Staff was very friendly and even stepped outside to take our coffee order while we waited (only 2 customers allowed inside at a time).

We got pizza and malts one day, and then just malts the next while out sight seeing. The pizza was great, although we did order the thicker crust and got the thin crust, but things happen and it still tasted delicious. I absolutely loved the mint malt, that was both our favorites of the ones we tried. We both like mint malts/shakes WITHOUT the chips, and it's rare to find one that doesn't taste super syrupy- but Schroeder definitely has the best I've had!

Back to this place on a long weekend up north. Stopped three times for scones because really, these are the best scones I have ever eaten.

Good calzones, good sub sandwich and baked goods. The latte was ok. They have some picnic tables outside, nothing inside. Friendly folks.

The breakfast was delightful and there was endless hot cups of coffee. The eggs were cooked perfectly and there were plenty of options. It truly hit the spot, we were both impressed with our breakfast. We loved this place so much that we came back that evening to pick up something from the bakery items. We got an entire blueberry pie and it was fantastic. The man who sold us the pie was beyond friendly, as well. I highly recommend it. They truly make you feel at home!

Darling vintage spot to stop for breakfast, coffee, or lunch on the North Shore near Lutsen!…read more You'll feel like you're in a true gem on the North Shore. They have coffee mugs of locals hung on the walls, vintage photos and news clippings, and incredible northern decor. We came in on a Monday afternoon in fall and ordered: - biscuits and gravy: my husband LOVED this - omelette with hash browns: delicious and crispy I expected bigger portions for the price, so was a bit disappointed in that as we were ready for a filling hearty brunch! The service was funny - our server must have been bored and really wanted to chat us up, which we didn't mind. I'd love to see this place more busy and more folks to know about it! We were the only ones in at that time. They also sell some convenience store items like OTC meds, non perishables, dry goods, etc. They also carry some local products and tourist goods. Come for the ambiance and coffee!
