This is my son's absolute favorite place to get an ice cream. While a soft serve twist dipped in chocolate is basic, North Street Dairy Cone executes it perfectly every time. We also love their homemade ice cream. There is a reason that this is a favorite of locals and Colby Student. read more

This is THE place to get ice cream in Waterville. The story behind this location is heartwarming. The staff is very nice and they seemed to know everyone in line, giving it a very home-town feel. They had a nice variety of flavors and serving options - Many of which are SUPER CUTE!! I ordered the coffee fudge - it was rich, creamy and delicious. So great, I only wish I had gotten a larger size. One thing I loved seeing was Grape Nut and Rum Raisin!!! I wish my mother was still alive to try them. Those flavors are so hard to find these days. I cannot wait to come back and visit friends in the area...but really to try this place again and those "classic" flavors. They have plenty of parking and lovely picnic tables to sit at while enjoying a chat with your treats. read more

This was the ice cream shop for all Waterville residents back in the day, when I was a kid. Even as I grew up and continued to return to my hometown, it was a lovely place to come with my children and later my grand children. The last time I visited, though, I was greeted with coldness and indifference, and the quality was lower than ever! No. The Ice Cream Shoppe in Oakland on KMD my new go-to place! Sorry, but rudeness is never rewarded in my realm. Good Luck No hard feelings on my part. I'm simply not going to spend my hard earned money at a place where I'm not welcomed & treated with respect & dignity. This is my new go to ice cream shop. Easily the best customer service in Waterville for any place of business. I'm not sure what these other reviews about being treated rudely or unkind, quality is bad or anything for that matter. My son and I drove over to see if they were open, at 845pm on a Tuesday night. Like we guessed they were closed. I pulled in to have my son check the hours, so we could come back. When he jumped out to check the hours a gentleman by the name of Mike let us know they were closed, said we just wanted to check the hours. Mike asked if there was anything we wanted, unsure of what he was asking I stated again we just wanted to check the hours, a friend of ours recommended this place. Mike, said yes is there anything I can get you guys? Unfortunately our machines are all turned off as of 8pm but if I can scoop it I would love to. We insisted he did not have to do that, that we planned on coming back. He insisted otherwise. Walked us over to the menus and started to explain the history of the business as well as why he and his family are operating the sentimental and nostalgic place for a lot of people that grew up here. The amount of options for flavors as well as different types of ice creams for the likes of people sensitive to dairy they have vegan options. Has a very family friendly ambiance. Mike also introduced us to his Daughter and son who also helped get our ice creams scooped up as well as carry conversation. I got pineapple orange with a scoop of banana, my son got pineapple orange and we got my wife chocolate and peanut butter cup. All were absolutely delicious ! All made in house as well! read more

Nice, homey place with a lot of different flavors of ice cream. The ice cream Itself was smooth, but unexceptional. Coincidentally, I had home made ice cream at Slates in Hallowell later that blew it away. It's a pleasant change from a chain, but I've had better. Down East ice cream in Boothbay Harbor also comes to mind. read more

I've been going here for 10 yrs out of convenience as I live in the neighborhood. It used to homey, directed towards children, people were kind. Last two years extremely down hill. Today was my last trip! I just went for a quart of ice cream 8.75 reasonable and asked for small side of sprinkles for my child. The total was 14.97 over $5 for a side of sprinkles. Then I asked about the price the owner herself barked at me about covering her costs!!! I nearly walked away after paying without our ice cream I was so floored to be spoken to in such a way. They now charge Giffords prices I'll drive the extra mile and get better ice cream. Knowing that company actually stands for something and does a lot for their own community and the state! Which is why they charge a premium. You guys have no excuse it's hard to pull a cheap napkin out of you anymore. Good riddance read more

I have lived in several major cities in the US, including NY, LA, Boston, San Francisco....And I love ice cream. THIS is the best ice cream on earth. There is a reason why the US Vice President decided to come here when he only had time to visit one business in Waterville. It's amazing!!! read more

Oh how things have changed. Each year this old gem disappoints more and more. Attitudes are miserable and you are made to feel like you are an inconvenience vs. a customer looking for an enjoyable time. An ice cream shop is meant to be fun and welcoming! You charged me for a cup because my son already got a cone with his order. Did you ever think maybe some children have additional needs? You also charged my sisters 11yo daughter for a second ice cream when she didn't even get a lick. You watched it all happen, the mom explained the situation and you saw the little girl crying. Shame on you. Its not about the money, we both paid it with out questioning you at the window...its the principal. read more

The comment that the ice cream was better than Giffords is what brought me here. I have to say I was very disappointed. While the had a favorite flavor that I haven't gotten at places that serve Giffords, coffee heath bar, their version of it was pitiful. In the entire serving I found a microscopic flake of chocolate but not one speck of the heath bar pieces I was looking forward to. I'd go somewhere else. read more

I will give them 5 stars. Is it worth driving 100 miles for? no. But its the best ice cream in central maine (sorry, second best - check out the ice cream truck at the farmers market at the concourse - her ice cream is also sold at uncle deans - spectacular small batch). sorry, i digress.
