Standard bakery fare, nice flavors generally, but wrapped in plastic and perhaps soggy. A fine stop but I wouldn't make a special journey.

The baked goods are hit or miss on freshness. The service is too. Cheap as dirt though, so there's that.

The service is always friendly. The food is very good. I love their cheese lasagna, goodie bars, and turnovers. My kids always appreciate a surprise pumpkin chocolate chip cookie. We had heard good things about this bakery, so we gave it a try when we were in town for our vet. They have a great variety of treats, from cakes and breads to donuts and all manner of pastries. We tried several different ones. I thought the Apple turnover was one of the best I have had in some time. I was a little disappointed in the date square, but my mother made them differently, so I am sure others will like them just fine. My third choice was a crème filled double hermit cookie. I would have liked even more molasses in the cookie, but it was fine. Similarly, my wife liked her choices, though her frosted chocolate brownie was not as much like a brownie as she would have liked. The best donuts I've had in this part of the state. I haven't tried the other sweets and breads, but they look good. The best part is the price: by far the cheapest donuts you'll find, even cheaper than most box stores. Delicious and great customer service. It's in a house-like space in a residential neighborhood, but once you get over that it is a nice spot to get a donut and coffee. read more

Someone brought a cake from Hillmans for a birthday party. It was just a really bad tasting cake. It was super dense and dry, the icing was hard and crumbly... it was a sad experience. Sounds like Hillmans Bakery needs to up their customer service skills. I made several attempts to contacting the bakery by phone several days in a row. No answering service, no one to answer the phone. Determined by their FB page that they are probably closed for maintenance. Such a shame for a business nowadays. Hillman's used to be one of my favorite bakery's! What is lacking is customer service skills and I got bismarks from them and they had barely any filling at all!! I remember years ago they filled them like a true Bismarck should be! Every time I go in there I feel as if I am a bother to them and they act less than happy to wait on me. They never smile or thank me for coming in. I hadn't been in for a while and this was the reason why. They lack the customer service to make you want to return to their store. I grew up in Fairfield. I remember when they opened. I graduated in 1962 from Lawrence High School. I now live in Sun City Arizona right next to Phoenix. I'm hoping I can get some items shipped to me. My daughter just loves the Whoopie pies I would like to surprise her. I have a very good friend in the nursing home on Cool Street in Waterville I would like to see if I could get someone to get them to her also. Hillman's offers a solid selection of classic baked goods: pies of all kinds, cookies, brownies, and bismarcks which are like unfrosted eclairs with fruit/chocolate/cream fillings. The tourtière here isn't as transcendently scrumptious as I recall from when I was growing up, but it's still a treat. read more

I'm not impressed. I bought peanut butter whoopie pies from them 4 times in the last a couple of months and all 4 times they were dried out and hard as a rock. And the reason why I bought from them so many times is because there was a time when I would get them weekly and I absolutely use to love them! I'm not sure why there was a change. Everything there use to be so good. But I'm also not impressed by the service. I went in to the bakery hoping to talk to someone about making my wedding cake there but no one really even noticed or asked me if I needed any help. They were too busy doing there own thing. It's not like there was a lot of customers in there. I mean I was the ONLY customer in there! So I just left because they didn't even noticed I came in. I absolutely love the donuts and pastries here! And at such an affordable price, it's hard to go over budget. They do have Cakes, but I've never tried them. Same with the Chicken Potpies. I have tried the lasagna and that is good, It's a little on the spicy side, but that show I like it! I would definitely go to Hillman​s! Decent service with a quick turn-around (I was forth in line and hardly had a minute to look around.) There's a lot to choose from, but everything seems overly sugary. Not a ton of half-good-for-you-health-wise options. I realize its a bakery, but not everything has to have a thick coating of glaze. It seems a little stuffy/dingy in there, and I think they could benefit from a spring-cleaning scrub down and better lighting. But if I can get a 12oz. coffee and a semi-decent cinnamon bun for $1.85, I really can't complain. Plenty of parking and easily accessible. read more

They do have excellent products and prices there. And they have real frosting instead of that nasty buttercream junk that seems to be showing up everywhere. But then there's the bad: I don't generally have a problem with poor customer service. When you hire teenagers and pay them minimum wage you are going to get what you pay for. I'm not one of these people that freaks out over poor customer service at place like Burger King, Shaw's or wherever. I don't go to these place to have my ass kissed. I just want to buy something. 99% percent of bad customer service rolls right off my back. I expect it. That being said, the employees at Hillman's are some of the rudest people I have ever dealt with. They have, on quite a few occasions, made me feel as though I am a nuisance to them. As though having to take my money is a torturous, unbearable chore. They are clearly miserable people. And they are not professional enough to even bother to hide their disdain for other people or life. It's really not worth dealing with the negative energy they give off to get a freaking box of cupcakes or doughnuts. I can easily live without both. And I see no reason to pay money to made to feel as if I am a burden to someone. I rarely go there any more. It's just not worth it. read more

I went here as a kid. There is a very large selection of baked goods and everything is really inexpensive. I have bought the most beautifully decorated birthday cakes that were so unique and creatively done. Although the baked goods are tried-and-true classics, they are expertly done. My favorite item is the rainbow bars, Italian rainbow cookies, they are much better than Mike's Pastry in the Italian South End in Boston. They are perfect. Long-popular Central Maine family bakery, they don't serve anything that you're every going to see featured on the Food Network, but what they do dish out has been solid and tasty over the years. Whoopie pies, donuts, old-fashioned cookies biscuits and rolls, turkey pies , tourtiere (Canadian pork pies), fruit pies, turnovers, cupcakes, and birthday cakes Everyone in town has had a birthday cake from Hillimans at one time or another. Pie fillings are probably from a can (no apple slicing going on in this place), but everything is cheap so nobody's complaining. You can even get little mini cheesecakes for about 95c each, or filled date cookies 2 for a buck. The counter service can be grumpy. Lately they've been friendly but is seems everyone in town has a story about some run-in or argument at Hillmans. Makes for a good laugh. Best items? Oatmeal rolls when they're fresh out of the oven, meat pies, hermits, creme horns, raspberry twist horns and chocolate pudding-filled cupcakes. ENJOY, but don't expect Martha Stewart. Yesterday, I visited the bakery for the first time. The cashiers not only did not greet me when I entered but acted like I was interrupting their day. I went in for a cinnamon roll which they had none so I ordered some for the following morning. they asked me when I would be in and I said 7:30am. I got a whoopee pie and a banana nut loaf. I went back this morning to get the cinnamon rolls only to find out they weren't finished baking. And again, they were so rude. I'm sure as a bakery, there okay. But due to the response from their staff, I will spend my money some where else. read more

Back for another visit . Anytime I pass thru this area this place is a must stop. Today I grabbed 1/2 dozen donuts , mini individual cheese cakes yum and some cupcakes .
