The best feature was the location, right on Nova Scotia trunk road 19 south of Chéticamp. We came for the Kitchenfest Gaelic music festival on Cape Breton and would travel to the Celtic Music Interpretive Center in Judique for their lunchtime ceilidh and north to the Doryman pub for night time shows. Walk down to the beach or just look at the water from your campsite. We plan to be back next year so look for us the first few weeks of July during Kitchenfest.

I asked a young and very attractive, counter-lady in a Hideaway gift shop if there was any place nearby to eat. Hoping for a '70's steel guitar, porno style entrance theme to pop up, she told me they (the campground) operated an oyster-only raw bar down the road. So with my tail between my legs, I sauntered on down and was quite delighted by the culinary, oral sensation these oysters provided. The area the surrounding oyster farm is nice as well. This is very basic, it includes mattresses without bedding and a place to plug in phones, but no electricity or lighting. The mattresses are very thin, supported by a wood frame. My boyfriend likes firm so that was good for him, if you like soft like me you might want to bring a pad. The cabin was clean. There is also a camper to rent or tent spaces. Bathroom facilities are a little walk and they have hot water for showers too. There is a seafood food truck. There is a beach, and hiking trail, but the real magnificence is the view. Seriously, take this advice: wake up early to see the sunrise. It made our whole trip.

You hear the waves, the birds chirping, and very close to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. We ate at the cafe twice, and my absolute favourite was the pannekoek with bacons and homemade ginger jam. Omg, I am drooling thinking about it. Pannekoek is a Dutch pancake, and I never thought I would love pancakes this much. Ton is such a great host and you will not regret staying here and experience eating his pannekoeks!

Awd and snow tires are a must. Satellite communication devices or starlink is also recommended as we had very large swaths of the drive without cell service. And if your car breaks down or you get stuck in a snow drift you are screwed. I think there was a part of the drive where I went easily 90 minutes without passing by anyone. I also wouldn't really recommend coming up here with an electric vehicle during the winter. But we enjoyed our time here. Just stayed at our Airbandb, cooked, played board games and reconnected with nature and our family.

More accurately, we at times felt unsafe, ripped-off and as though we were being pranked due to the numerous situations in which we said, "this cannot be real."   The things within the yurt that were broken or downright laughable were numerous: * There was an overwhelming smell of chicken manure in the yurt itself and compost outside. * None of the interior or exterior doors closed. A gust of wind, wildlife, and other people were free to enter the yurt at any time during our stay at any time. * One of the beds was broken upon arrival (the vast majority of the support bars underneath the mattress were fully on the floor or only attached on one side). When we asked about it, we were told, "you probably won't be charge for it." * None of the beds were the painted Mongolian bed that's pictured on booking sites. * Bins covered in blankets doubled as tables. * One of the exterior doors couldn't be opened as the handle came off in our hands when we attempted to use it. * Neither bathroom lights worked. * The toilet wouldn't flush (1, 2, toilet paper or not, or holding the handle down for a while). After asking assistance and were told, "that's not my job." * We were located in what appears to be a workers site/maintenance area. It felt like we were using a yurt made for employees to stay in perhaps? There was also equipment strewn about the yurt that must have been left there by maintenance. Ex: ladder to get on the roof. Outside, were various cords, pallets, broken down machinery and other equipment. * There was garbage on the floor from previous guests. * There were no chairs outside (as there was at other, smaller yurts) so we sat on the edge of the deck. * There was a large pile of mulch outside our front door, along with garbage and boulders that I can only assume previous guests used to keep the doors from opening.   I'm quite confident that I could go on, but it's getting comical at this point.    Our belief is that your 3.9 rating on Google reflects a number of friends and family making recommendations and that the rating will continue to drop as guests experience what we did.  Highly recommend avoiding this booking.
