This is a Beautiful hike , about 8km round trip. It is a shared trail with bikes, so you need to be aware of bikers coming down or up the hill , but it was not a big deal. The views and wildlife opportunities are worth it and you get a workout to go along . Plenty of parking options at the beginning of the trail too. read more

I went this past Sunday. I had previously visited early in the pandemic in June 2020. I walked around the Mesa in 3hrs recording 7 miles with dew people hiking. This time I went to Golden Cliffs trailhead on the south side. There were two trails (0.4 & 0.8 miles). The shorter looked more difficult indicating a steep climb to the rim. I chose the longer one. I was wrong. The 0.8 mile trail was less used and I had trouble finding the trail. I took several dead-ends that brought me to the base of the cliff for climbing routes using ropes & pitons. I eventually made the entire distance in 1.5 hrs. The trail map at the trailhead said most difficult and it was right. Once on top I took the North Table Loop trail 0.3 miles to Tilting Mesa trail. I hiked another 0.3 miles to Rim Rock trail (1.7 mile) which is a big loop going to the north rim. Weather was rolling in with heavier clouds and wind. On a clear day it would be hot. I took a video at the north rim at the 2nd highest spot on 6,551 ft. The highest is Lichen Peak at 6,552 ft. I finished the loop and headed back west. There are no restrooms/porta potties or water on the mesa top. So I descended to the west parking lot. The 0.4 mile segment is probably at 6-8% grade. I looked at the trail map. I could go back up to the top and negotiate the steeper route (0.4 miles) to the Golden Cliffs trailhead where I parked my car or take a circuitous trail (1.3 miles) along the west and south side. Very scenic and the trail was clearly visible. I startled a mule deer. So if your looking for a good hike, start on the west side and get to top for a level hike. Several trails go down the east side to access other trails including one that takes you to New Terrain Brewing. read more

Not a trail for the faint of heart on a hot day. As others have said, very little shade, so make sure you have plenty of water for you and your pets. Our dog became overheated and needed lots of breaks along the way. Good reminder for booties as well for hot feet. read more

Such a prime spot to hike SO close to Denver without having to drive miles away! Great for those training to run marathons or just looking for a short weekend adventure. There's many different sections of North Table Mountain to explore once you park in the lot. I feel like you can keep going forever, past the grassy plains and up to the lookout point. Just outside of Denver, great views, and something for everyone, I can see why it's a popular spot! The parking lot is small but there was parking alongside the road which we utilized on a busy Saturday morning. The initial hill up the North Table Loop is a leg burner, but once you get to the top it's pretty easy sailing from there. There are small trails that go off of the main trail, or take the whole loop around if you're looking for a longer hike. Leashed dogs are welcome and some trails are open to mountain bikers, so just be aware of who's come up behind you or whipping around the corner. There is little to no shade on this hike so don't forget that SPF! We had a nice time on our hike, and had great views of the area and watched some of the rock climbers do their thing. If you're avoiding a crowded hike, maybe don't pick this one on a weekend, but if you're looking for something close, this is a great option! read more

It's an intense first mile uphill, but once you reach the vista, you've got the hardest part over with. If you're not acclimated to the altitude, it's even more difficult. And if there's residual ice or snow, it can be a little treacherous going up or down. That being said, it's a different kind of workout for those seeking variety or a new challenge. This is a fantastic hike with great views of Denver as well as the whole surrounding area!! Pulling off the highway, you have two large parking lots and the trailhead is right there. The main hike takes you up a quick steep ascent then levels off leading to some truly remarkable views! The trail winds to the left then down a spiral where you'll pass fellow hikers, horseback riders & possibly some snakes. The trailheads are easy to find from the main parking lot. I ended up in what I'll call an overflow lot a bit down the road and had to walk over. We started the hike on the ascending grade, which was a pretty good workout. There are great views once you get to the top, then you can look over Denver as you loop around, and finally another great view of the mountains as you descend (closer to the overflow parking on the main road). There were a lot of people out on their bikes or with their dogs. The bathrooms at the base are probably the nicest I've seen in any parking lot. read more

When you pull in from 86 there are two main parking areas. The bathrooms near this trailhead are very well maintained. Heading up that trail you face a steep ascent for about one mile. Then you get to the top and everything opens up. There are multiple trails and beautiful views from there. I did Lichen Trail after a light morning rain and it was very enjoyable, not muddy. During hotter days you should come early because there is absolutely no cover/shade. Lots of people walk their dogs here, some bikers, some runners, all seemed friendly. I'd love to come here again and spend time on the other trails. read more

I really can't hate too much on a place that has clean, actual bathrooms at the trailhead so I will keep it nice! This place is great for an easy to moderate day hike if you're looking to stay within the Denver metro area. It's been on my list for awhile but truly, it was lackluster. It's pretty residential and right off of the highway so you really don't feel like you're hiking up a mountain (or mesa). You look one way and there's a housing development, the other way, power lines and cars. Luckily we went when it was raining outside so we kept cool and hiked for about four miles. Lots of bikes and pups there and we even saw a baby snake when going back down the mile. They have ample parking so that's always a plus but it really isn't the most intense hike out there, excellent place to take people from out of town who may not be acclimated to the elevation! There's not a lot of coverage so be sure to bring a hat and SPF with you. It truly is ok. read more

A great place right outside of Golden for a hike or mountain bike. There are multiple trails although the main trail up to the top is a thorough workout. The place is dog friendly and there are rest rooms. Parking is available but you may have to park along the highway on a busy weekend. The primary trail is a steep grade up for about a half mile - it's a road really. Then it levels off to some side trails. Follow the main trail around and across the top and then down to where you started from. About four miles in total, not including side trails. It's all exposed at the top, so bundle up before you go, if it's cold and/or windy. Dogs need to be on the leash here as mountain bikers barrel along steadily with little or no warning. Overall a great hike and decent workout. The views from the top are excellent! read more

I did this with a 24lb baby strapped to the front of me. No one can complain that it's hard unless you do it with a baby and a postpartum body that needs to re-acclimate to the altitude. I was told previously that the start was strenuous, and had I been fitter like I was before, I would've been like "kinda strenuous" but in my current state, it was hard work!! Felt great though! The views from the top are...nice. Not super gorgeous but nice. Would totally do it again though. Thank you so much to yelp and the city of golden for introducing me to this location. It shows that you don't need to sit in I70 traffic to get a decent hike and a good workout in. There's a real restroom, good amount of parking and a wide path with a few different paths once you're up the steep part. Nice one Golden! read more

We took the kids on another hike this afternoon up North Table Mountain. They LOVED it. The road up was pretty snowy and slick in some spots but doable. We loved the Mesa area at the top with views of downtown Golden, the Denver skyline in the distance, and mountains. It was very windy though, and our youngest lost his footing with a quick blustery gust and toppled over. Kudos to the fitness buffs running up the mountain and making it look effortless! Easy parking spot and clean bathrooms at the bottom of the trail. read more

As a first time visitor to Golden, Co and North Table...this did not disappoint. Judging by all the constant bikers and hikers this is a great place for regulars/locals too! I personally am new to "hiking" in general in Co as we live Texas but man was this mountain trail pretty dang awesome! It literally had my heart pounding from the 1 mile long constant uphill gradient but as you got closer to the top the sweeping views were pretty breathtaking. Awesome workout needless to say! I had to stop so many times to catch my breath...but then I saw a very elderly woman being held up arm linked around arms her tiny waist by 2 friends so she could make it to the top. I couldn't help but think maybe this is something she has been doing with her friends for years and that this could be her last time...it was beautiful to watch but bittersweet...so I charged on up thinking of that woman as I passed them up. I will say if you are at all afraid of heights (like me) this was doable until you're up on the "table" part of the crater. Steep drop offs all around you and with the big wind guts that late afternoon, I was kinda freaked out...(okay a lot freaked out). I had my entire family (teenagers included) and our friends up there with us soooo anytime anyone got near the lip of the crater or the edge I began to panic quite a bit and yell out a few F bombs...LOL! Beautiful sweeping views of the snow cap mountains all around Morrison city limits as well as Golden below and even the Coors brewery can be seen if you're not afraid to go to the other side of the crater like I was...ha! Took us a good hour from start to finish! I would like to do it again...I also heard South Table is just as awesome/great! I would highly recommend doing this if you'd like a short but worth every step hike with excellent views and just being out in the fresh Colorado air is just as recharging to the soul! read more

Visiting Golden from another Jefferson County (Alabama), found this gem for hiking to the west of the city. The initial climb is brutal to the uninitiated (even to the initiated it's still a challenge), but it pays off once you reach the plateau and can oversee Golden and Denver over the east side. From there, you have plenty of trail options to choose from to make your hike as long and hard or quick and easy as you desire. Words of warning: stay on the trail and don't venture into the wildlife areas. I hiked with my cousin and her two dogs on an early and warm fall day in October, and on our return trip I skidded on a loose rock on the trail. I caught my balance, but then I noticed a shaken look in my cousin's eye. I did not see it, but I heard the rattle of a rattlesnake, ready to strike if there were any further moves made toward it. We high tailed it with the dogs until we were a great distance away. We cautioned others to beware of snakes as they headed that direction. Moral of the story is to just mind your surroundings and be ready for nature. There are very beautiful views from this hike that pictures will not do justice. Can't wait to return to Golden and explore more of this trail, hopefully with less snakes! read more

We had the best time here today! That would be ME - and my dogs! Easy to find. Well marked. Plenty of parking. Clean clean clean public restrooms. Gorgeous views. Not too crowded/too many hikers. Polite and friendly hikers and dogs! With the path up just a bit icy and pretty muddy - it took me 25 minutes to get to the top. Once there- there were several different loops and trails I could have taken, but we (the 3 of us) decided to trek back down. One thing I would like to note is that there was NOT a lot of dog "waste" around. Which is so nice! I'm taking a friend back on a weekend, and I'm sure there will still be enough parking. My new quick and favorite hike!!! read more

This is a great refuge EXTREMELY close to Golden and the Denver Metro area. There are 15+ miles of shared trail that are great for hiking, walking, and mountain biking. There are also areas for rock climbing as well. North Table Mountain Loop offers great panoramic views of Golden and Denver. In my opinion, one of the best views is from the end of the Golden Cliffs trail. This was a great warm-up hike for the first of the season (and the first for my dog). The initial up-hill, which is about .75 miles, is killer when you haven't been hiking. Once you get to the top, like plenty other people mentioned, there are several options of trails to take. Be warned, some turn out to be very long loops. We just ended up going down one of the loops and turning back around since we weren't looking to spend all day there. The trails are clean, the views are quaint (including of the Denver skyline), people were nice, and the friendly and happy dogs are plenty. This is a great option if you're trying to avoid excessive mud and ice while we wait for the warmer weather of spring and summer. I would say---great place for out of towners. They can see gorgeous Colorado, get winded just enough to decide the high elevation is not for them, and get a lil fresh air and exercise. read more

Large parking lot and flush toilets at the main trailhead! Wow! Plus a great workout rewarded by a spectacular view. That first hill is a doozy. I only hike. I stuck to the wider trails and did not do the whole North Table Mountain Loop, which was mostly single track. It was very relaxing. read more

This hike's alright but offers little foliage & a view of mostly rocky hills with some homes on them. It's dog & bike friendly (yay). The whole space is dry & open. Parking is free. Cool spot for running. The majority of the hike was of moderate intensity. Some areas were steep but most areas were flatter. There are toilets in the parking lot. Deers, prairie dogs & hawks chill here but I didn't see any during my hike. read more

This park is absolutely wonderful. If you are considering biking, hiking, and/or rock climbing here I absolutely recommend it. North Table Mountain is very close to the city of Denver and is also easy to access. Moreover, there are many different trail options and so you are not constantly bumping into people. Be prepared for a VERY steep incline on the way up. I was literally huffing and puffing, but this incline lasts about half a mile or one mile at the most I would say. The views are stunning and will literally take your breath away. You can even see the Denver skyline from the top and the surrounding city of Golden. If anything, the views are sure to bring you some tranquility. Feel free to bring your dog along, as many of the hikers do. read more

Sweet little single track with great easy access right off highway 93 near Golden. However, parking can be tougher to find than a website not posting a Kardashian bum shot. I've ridden this trail numerous times starting off on the west side and once in the winter starting from the east side. It takes you through an easy, get your legs ready, steady climb, into a small little rocky (but so doable) incline into numerous switch backs with fantastic views overlooking Golden and downtown Denver. Every now and then, don't forget to look above you...you'll see deer watching you traverse the trail. When you get to the top, there are cliffs to rappel off of, numerous hikers and different trails to take you back to where you started. read more

This is a nice area to hike/walk (and apparently bike and rock climb). I've parked at two different lots/trail heads and both have a pretty steep incline at the beginning, but it lasts only for around 1/2 mile and then it levels out and becomes quite easy. There are beautiful views and lots of people and wildflowers. Also, it gets points because the trailhead on Hwy 93 has actual functioning bathrooms which is a nice surprise. I do love when I can flush a toilet and wash my hands. read more

Nice moderate hike pretty near Denver. Not that many hikers or bikers in the trail compare to other places in Golden which is nice for a nice relaxing group hike. While the downside is the lack of foliage on the trail, the steep but quick hike to the top has some nice views that make up for it. read more

Great place for a quick/ medium length hike. The parking lot is large and there are plenty of trails to wander around. A steep 1/2 mile incline to start gets the heart rate into the workout zone and then you reach a plateau/Mesa where the trails spread out. We saw deer, a coyote, and prairie dogs. Trials sometimes narrow to fit a single track bike path but you'll never notice with expanding views of golden and denver with each turn. Will come back for a great workout 20-30 min from home. read more

plenty of parking spots. went with a group after the coors tour since it was very close by. i'm sure it was the altitude but i had to stop multiple times because of the incline. walking down was much easier. there are very clean bathrooms near the parking lot which is always nice. views of the valley at the top. read more
