This review is specifically for the Evergreen Mountain Trail, and it's also more for previous experiences here rather than today. Even though many on AllTrails said the trail was fine within the past few days, it was clearly iced over today. No worries, as we had our spikes with us. Well, one worry, as one of my wife's spikes decided to sabotage our day and start to tear. After fighting with it for 30 mins or so, we abandoned our attempts to continue on the trail. Other than today, the Evergreen Mountain Trail is one of our favorites in Colorado. The views from the top are amazing. I can't recommend it enough; however, if you're going this time of year, take your spikes...you'll need them. read more

Awesome place to hike with or without a dog. We did the Elephant Butte trail (roughly 6 miles at 1400 feet of climb). The snow and ice made it more exhilarating ( bring micro spikes). Gorgeous views from the top. Great parking lot. Nice bathrooms. read more

Just about 40 mins from Denver, decided to take our dog (he's the reason we're outdoor people now) for a hike. Perfect hike for the perfect day! The trail was covered in snow but today was fairly sunny and warm - turned out great! We did not have any spikes and I slipped a couple of times but over all was manageable. There are so many trails and you can choose which one you want to go for. We look the longer ponderosa trail about 4.8 km long and moderately trafficked. It had a few spots where we had to climb but it's completely doable even for an amateur. Our dog had so much fun! Definitely coming back in the summer. read more

Ahhh, it feels great to be back on the trails! Last week's hike took us to Evergreen's Alderfer/Three Sisters Park. From where we live it was a brief 35 minute drive, a beautiful one at that, too. It was our first time here and we opted to park in the West parking lot and hit the Evergreen Mountain Trail. 10/10 would recommend! Parking lot was full around 9:30 am on a Saturday morning. But not as crowded as I expected. Relatively clean and maintained bathrooms are available for use at the trail head near the stables. Evergreen is just that, green as ever! Beautiful trees line the trails, with mountain bikers whizzing by you. We brought our dog (on a leash, of course) and she enjoyed the trails, too. The views might not be as thrilling off the bat, but the trek to the summit is well worth it. Stunning and picturesque views of snow-capped Mount Evans? Oh yes! Our last two weekend hikes have been extremely successful and we hope to continue the streak this weekend, weather permitting. Colorado, I heart you! read more

This is a great hiking spot that is not challenging next to Denver. The trails are wide and more dirt than rock, which provides easier footing. I have a foot injury which prevents me from doing the level of activity that I would like to do but this trail was easy and there were no steep inclines. It was very open and smelled so fresh too. It was a nice mix of scene - trees, rocks. Though there were areas where my son was able to climb up rocks and enjoy that where I could stay on level ground, so that was nice. We saw a rabbit, squirrels and different birds. Definitely worth a trip there to do some hiking. read more

First hike since moving to Colorado! Finally my husband I could get outside with our two huskies. The signage for the park is very clear. While there's two small parking lots, you can always park along the street and walk to the trailhead. It was quite busy, even for a pandemic. I guess everyone wanted to get outside. It's a gorgeous series of routes of varying difficulty. Next to the restrooms, the trail map is clearly marked. We ascended to the Brother's Lookout for scenic photo ops. My husband and I might have taken a more difficult route if we didn't have the pups, but it turned out to be a decently tiring hike for all of us. Nothing more to say here... there's plenty of shade throughout, and the whole park is clean and well-kept. Be careful of mountain bikers sharing the same trails, though we didn't feel like we were in danger. I'm still thinking about the section of bouldering shown on the map. I might want to try that out in the future! read more

This is a beautiful open space hike. I wasn't sure when I saw the big garbage bin in the corner of the open space. It was still beautiful. The groups I saw were diverse. I ran into other hiking families, hiking pets with their owners, and bikers as well. It was helpful to use the all trails app to guide me through some of the marked hikes. If you come on your own or with a buddy (preferably with a buddy) then I would just explore on your own without a planned hike. That way the hiker will be able to find their way back on a new trail. Make sure you have the knowledge or map to find your way back to the car. read more

When looking at activities on my Colorado bucket list, I decided to head up to Three Sisters for a solo hike. It's really a great beginner hike - not very strenuous or difficult, but it definitely provides beautiful views. Surrounded by pine trees, the trails consist of rocky terrain. Trail markers are easy to read, and with multiple routes to choose from, you can explore many areas of the park. I'm sure it gets busier on the weekends, but on my Thursday morning, it was secluded and quiet, with only a few other hikers seen in passing. Being only 40 minutes outside Denver, the drive takes you through the cute and quaint town of Evergreen. Although there is a parking lot at the beginning of the trail, spaces are limited - so be prepared to find some street parking just in case! I'm also super happy to see that the space is dog friendly, so your furry friend can join! I will make a point to bring my pup on my next trip. It's easily worth a visit if your looking to enjoy some time outdoors and see some beautiful scenery. read more

This park was suggested to me by a number of people so I decided to check it out for myself. Normally, I like steeper, higher elevation hikes but with the snow and not having hiked for a while this seemed like a nice warm up. We did the E. Evergreen Mtn Trail to the summit and finished with the W. Evergreen Mtn Trail, which is around 6 miles and took us about 2.5 hours with a small break at the summit. Let me just say the summit is worth the hike alone. The views of Mt Evans are pretty spectacular (I'll include a photo). Overall, I thought the hike was beautiful and it was the perfect warm up on a Sat morning. There are a number of mountain bikers on the route but nothing too overwhelming or annoying. Everyone is really nice and courteous as well. I think if you're looking for something not too strenuous and something close to Denver then this is a really nice hike to do. You're also outside of Evergreen so you can roll into town to grab a bite or a beer or just roam around a bit. read more

I think this is one of my favorite "near Denver" places to hike. It's big enough to have enough trails for everyone, but not so big that it's daunting. The trails are usually well-maintained and clearly marked. I like to take out of town visitors here for a number of reasons. First, the drive is easy, but beautiful. Second, it has lots of trails for different activity levels. Folks who are easily winded can do flatter trails. People who want more of a challenge can hike up Evergreen Mountain for a nice view. There's a bouldering area and lots of places to picnic. I haven't tried snowshoeing this park yet, but I'm sure it'd be fun. There's some good shady trails to get out of the hot, summer sun. The only drawback is that because this place is close to Denver, it gets very crowded on the weekends. Also the trails are mixed use trails. Most mountain bikers are pretty respectful of hikers, but there's always that one weekend warrior who forgets the rules and doesn't have the stamina to stop and start frequently. If you go on a nice weekend in the summer, remember to GO EARLY to get a spot in the parking lots. Like, get there by 8:30, early. read more

Whoever lives in the big house next to the open space of Three Sisters Park is super go lucky!! Aside from Pumas, we found that this hiking is exactly what the name of the Park is called, because of the three mountains to hike on!! We absolutely enjoyed how difficult the trail was, it was long and also the view on top of random boulders were spectacular!! This hike requires lots of trail mix and water, because I ended up getting slightly dehydrated from that. We found loads of Amanita muscarias all around the trail, which was interesting. The elevation gain of this park was 1502 m for sure. Once you reach to the very top, the view is absolutely gorgeous and smells of the pine trees. If you go on the site, I think it's really cool that it keeps track on the parking spaces, which is a helpful system. Alderfer/Three Sisters has both a East/West Trailhead which you can see the opposite of the sisters from either or sister you climb. read more

We are always looking for good places to hike. We will go anywhere, even if its a long drive! Luckily Alderfer/Three Sisters Park is not too far out of the way. My boyfriend and I came here on a warm, sunny day. The drive to the park takes you through beautiful wilderness and a cute downtown area. The park has a good sized parking lot and street parking as well. There are also two restrooms and a map at the park entrance. This map will show you all the trails and a bit of history as well. Most of the trails in this park are of moderate difficulty and rocky terrain. These trails are used by hikers, mountain bikers and are dog friendly. All the trails are marked, so don't worry about getting lost. We decided to take the Three Sisters trail since it connects with multiple different routes. We usually like to take a bit longer of a hike, so we connected to the Bearberry trail from the Three Sisters trail. As you can see from the pictures, the views we discovered were awesome! One thing to be aware of is that this park can get pretty busy on the weekend. So if you are looking for a more quiet and secluded hike, go early or during the week. Happy Trails! read more

I had a great hike with 2 friends today. It was easy to find which is step one and the trails where really nice. We were in and out of the sun and went from narrow to wider trails throughout. We did about 6 miles today. Passed lots of mountain bikers who were all nice and shared the trails and even 1 horse. Saw a lot of horse poop, but only 1 horse. I would definitely hike here again next summer. read more

I'm a big fan of this area- so much so that I got married there this spring. We had our little ceremony in the meadow just east of the mountain bike path/berm. It was nice and flat, and we even wheeled a family member out in a wheelchair. It's a nice open space on the barn side (the north end of the park?) and there are lots of rocks to climb around on and take pictures on. It was great for wedding photos, but I think that it would be great for senior, team or family pictures. And after the pictures are done, there are some really well-maintained paths for walking, riding or snowshoeing on. read more

Yeah for the great outdoors! First parking lot from denver accesses the mountain bike trails - so keep on trucking if you will be on 2 feet! Second lot is part the large building and the GPS stop. Mid week, mid summer it is relatively empty and nary a bike to rile you on the north side. If you have a map it is well marked... of you are winging it, there are circles, so know your trail! Lots of hills and rocks, and shade! Great hike! read more

This is an extremely easily accessible park to check our for a quick hike before a lunch/brunch in Evergreen. There are a number of trails that are very well marked. Today we took Sisters Trail to Brother's Lookout which is about 3 miles. There is a well-maintained restroom at the trailhead, dogs allowed on leash. There are a number of mountain bikers, but for a Saturday (and a beautiful, warm November Saturday) it was pretty quiet. Lot filled up by ~9:30am on Sat so I recommend getting there by 9ish! read more

I absolutely adore this park, the climbs tucked away from the trails, the creatures that peek at you from behind tree limbs, the way the sun heats up boulders that are perfect for napping on - just everything about Three Sisters is wonderful. I will admit, it took me three separate visits to finally locate the bouldering I came here for. The first visit was in the summer of 2010, on a hectic cross-country road trip to the Grand Tetons. My crew was sunburnt, tired, cranky, and entirely failed at our attempt to get some climbing in at Three Sisters. Lame sauce. After moving to Denver a few months ago, I remembered how much I loved the scenery, earnest deer, and the charming town of Evergreen that surrounded the park - so I made a return trip when my boyfriend came to visit. Our first two days were once against spent hiking around in search of climbs - and again we failed. Finally, we figured out that the boulders are all hidden away off the trails. My beau, Niko, was enthralled by Prince Charles, a beautiful V8 compression route with horrific slopers that left his fingertips pouring blood for hours - but he loved every minute of it. My personal favorite (thus far) is the Troll Cave. Located a few switchbacks down The Sisters trail from the area where Prince Charles sits, this overhanging problem is exactly my style, and to be honest, I can't stop thinking about it. Honorable mention goes to Huge Mammal (V7, I believe), which is located directly off The Sisters trail where it splits with another trail, and is worth the bloody effort for any strong climber. Aside from the sweet climbing, this park offers some beautiful hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. The wildlife here is always active, and you'll be hard-pressed to visit Three Sisters without meeting a tranquil doe grazing in the fields around dusk. I can't wait to come back once the snow starts for some snowshoeing! read more

I came to this park with my wife and pup for a hike. Gw had heard of fit and have been trying a bunch of hikes around this area recently. The hike itself isn't too difficult and manageable for some novice hikers and a small 10lb dog. It took us maybe an hour to get to the top of the brother lookout. We got some pretty good pics and headed down. On the way back to the car we did see a horse wearing some funny hiking shoes. It was pretty interesting! This hike isn't too hard and won't take too long. :) read more

This a great park to go for a hike, climb, boulder, or mountain bike. Awesome views, lots of good rock faces and climbs, and a nice variety of trails to choose from. We took the Sisters Trail to the Brother summit. A short hike but a great view at the top. Then we continued the Sister Trail loop. Great little hike that was just 5 - 10 min from Evergreen. The hike had some decent elevation but the views from the top of Brother was great. Walking around the sisters was a great site to see and took around an hour to complete. Well worth it. I would either plan to get there really early or be prepared to park on the street and walk a good bit just to get to the trailhead. read more

Three Sister's has great trails- I love the Three Sisters Loop it's a great trail and leads to beautiful view of Evergreen. My husband loves to mountain bike to the top of the mountain on the other side of the parking lot across the street. Tonight I saw two horses, a fox and a squirrel. All the trails in the park are great. It's one of my favorite places to hike in Evergreen. read more

When researching this place, miles stated were 3.7, uh, ppl, there are a LOT more miles to this place... Going across the road from the parking lot the first trip out here was, well, ugh, a bit intimidating as I am NOT one to gripe, but tis rocky, hot, even with cooler temps (79°) and lotsa bicyclists midweek/non-holiday... BUT, yes, look out points are GORGEOUS!!... Next trip out, took same side of parking lot trails. . ventured off to some "D" named park trail which was helpful cuz pup was overheating and there's a large river in which he could bask and cool off... The Sisters and Big Brotha points, where one climbs up to perch and view the valley IS scenic, altho loaded with college kids even midweek...these trails are a bit rocky, too, but not as much as the ones on the other side of the road.... First trip out, 6.1 miles, not including the Wild Iris Trail, 2nd trip out, 7.6 miles, all trails...and again, lots more bicyclists on these trails than many others I've taken with my pup. . read more
