This is a lovely coffee shop in Manchester City centre in the northern quarter it something different from the big chains. They have a lovely selection of herbal teas which I usually try and my partner loves coffee so he always tries a different type of coffee. They do lovely home made cakes and sandwich. It's a really chilled out place and your not rushed you could sit there all day and they wouldn't mind. On friday, I decided to treat myself to some lunch and after scouting some cafes in the northern quarter, settled on North Tea Power. First, I went for a mocha and after glancing through their selection of toasted sandwiches; I choose the pastrami, emmental cheese and gherkin toastie. I actually went out of my confort zone here. My order came within a short amount of time. My mocha tasted pretty good, nice and chocolatey with a pleasent bitterness from the coffee. My toastie was delicious. The pastrami was nicely spiced, there was a good amount of cheese and dispite the fact that I don't eat gherkins, I found them mildly pleasent on the toastie. The price, was a tiny bit more than I would spent on similiar items in different places. £5.50 for the toasted sandwich and £3 for what I would say is a smallish cup of mocha. Still, regardless of the price, I was still impressed with what I got. I will definitely come back to try their cakes. read more

So I am all about tea. Seriously. All my friends and family (and work colleagues/neighbours/anyone who has ever seen me in the morning) are fully aware of this fact. I would go as far to say that it is favourite thing ever. Therefore, I was really quite nervous about visiting North Tea Power. Everyone has been raving about it for ages and I've had about ten different people text me telling me it's right up my street...it sounded too good to be true. I was really scared I wasn't going to like it... However, my worries turned out to be completely unfounded - this place is amazing. Great tea, great coffee, great cake, great service. Absolutely loved it. Nice little location too, not too far out of the city centre for all those 'Northern Quarter phobes' (quite a few of my friends). Can't wait to go back! read more

Best coffee in Manchester! On trips across the hills to Manchester this is pretty much the only place to come for a good coffee... the Northern Quarter isn't short for quality cafes (Oklamhoma for example) their coffee just can't match here. Great looking sandwiches and cakes are just the icing on the.. ermm.. cake... A large coffee shop can seat a few punters (an issue a lot of indies in Leeds have) and it's perfectly laid out, with a big bench for a quick sit down at the far end and more personal 2/4 seat tables around the walls. Another cosy tea room in the Northern Quarter! That is a good thing in my book as I love them and competition is good for quality and innovation! I had a latte and a carrot cake with poppy seeds. These were both of a high standard and I'd be happy to get the same again. I noticed lots of homemade treats and there was soup and sandwiches on the menu. Not sure if they do hot food? The staff were friendly and helpful. There are newspapers hanging on the wall, definitely a plus point. The decor was cosy and welcoming, I remember lots of wood everywhere. This is the joint best espresso in Manchester and the best in the NQ - being permanently asleep/hungover I should know about these things! North Tea Power is a little gem, tucked up off Tib street under the covered walkway. It's run by a couple of cool looking cats who've travelled the world, who love tea and know how to knock out an amazing coffee (these guys are bean geeks - best types of geeks to have around). White walls and interesting artwork, wooden tables and folk on the stereo - it's a laid back, chilled space that's great to have a breather in, catch up with a friend or jump on their wifi and spend the after working (ie looking at pictures of cute cats on the interweb). Food is soups and sandwiches for lunch; toast and porridge for breakfast and then there's their array of super amazing cakes and sweet treats (TIP the florentine is the BEST EVER) - plus you can get my absolute fave here - affogato, which is ice cream with espresso over - FIT. make sure you hunt this little place out, once you've been you'll not find a better coffee/more friendly space in the NQ. read more

Sat outside on this gloomy but clammy day, but from what I saw of the inside whilst ordering they definitely had a great range of teas, lovely looking food, and amazing cakes (need to come back to try the banana Nutella flapjack)! It had a tad of the ole Northern Quarter pretentiousness about it, but they did a cracking cuppa (you'd be surprised how many places can get a simple breakfast tea wrong), so I can't fault them. If I had to give this place a grade I'd say it's an A+ (or A star for all you Brits out there). The staff were absolutely bloody brilliant. They talked my ear off about various UK roasters (Square Mile, Has Bean, Small Batch, Origin, etc.) and I loved every minute of it. They had some amazing Kilimanjaro on from Square Mile so my freind and I opted for an aero press and v60 respectively. All I can say is that it was coffee at its finest. When we left the owner said I should try their espresso next time. When I mentioned that we had just come from Caffiene & Co (reputed to be the best espresso in Manchester) but had come to NTP for their legendary filtered coffee (supposed to be their specialty) I was rebuked with a simple, "Yes, that's our specialty. AND ESPRESSO!" Gotta love pride and passion in the coffee world. Needless to say, next time I'm hanging with the Mancs, I'll be enjoying espresso from NTP as soon as I'm off the coach. read more

When I went here I had the stuffed porchetta, which was so incredibly flavorful that it didn't have me missing my second favorite choice - the African chermoula-spiced kebab. My mate raved about the coffee. I stuck with a beer as coffee and portchetta just don't mix. That is where my four rather than five start review comes in, with the beer. They have both canned and bottled craft beers but all are relatively pricey. Other than that the whole experience was lovely. Its a great place to come with a crowd as their tables are large. Came here for a Sunday brunch because the place we wanted was full. A lovely and interesting little cafe with a lot going on. The menu is not what you would call a standard menu, I had the Reuben and my wife had eggs on toast with grilled pancheta. Very tasty. All rounded off with excellent latte and cappuccino. Don't come here if you want warm service. I've been here a handful of times and the coffee is rlly nice and the food generally is as well. However this one occasion, I've ordered porridge after having it before and it being really nice! The porridge didn't look anything like it had previously and just wasn't cooked properly and was super salty. This wasn't an issue necessarily if the issue could be resolved nicely, and I went to the counter to explain my gripe super politely. The man, about 5'6 with glasses and tattoos rudely snatched it off me, snapping "you don't want it then?" and went on to say well he's out of oat milk and the issue might be just be a different brand of oat milk. Insinuating I was being difficult - when like I know what porridge should taste like and something was very off here. I've literally never written a bad review before, nor asked to replace a dish but I felt it necessary on this occasion because of how uncomfortable this situation made me feel. i've been here several times now, and each time has been better than the last. i tried one of their seasonal lattes at first, and as bex said, it did seem to have a weird paracetamol-y aftertaste. next time, i tried an americano, and there was a bit of the same aftertaste but not nearly as strong. i have no idea if this is the product or method creating the aftertaste, but i'm thinking/hoping it's just early kinks working themselves out. since then, i've been trying out the teas, since helllooo it's north tea power. loooovely. even went for the tea espresso, which tasted like...tea? in a super cute and tiny cup. perhaps it packs a punch for some, but i'm perma-sleepy, and double espresso shots only make me half-way awake. the baked goods are delightful, but not helpful for the size of my derriere. the space is really comfy, and the staff all seem kind. bravoooo read more

I have so much love this place, it's my favourite destination for tea and cakes in Manchester! I even bring my parents when they're visiting. North Tea Power in the Northern Quarter is currently my favourite coffee shop in Manchester. They serve up some of the best coffee I have had from a shop. The cakes and sandwiches are excellent and overall the prices are on par with any other place in the city centre. When I have been they were serving Has Bean beans which is what I use at home and they prepare them excellently. The Drip coffee is superb and time and care is taken whilst they make it, always keeping an eye on the time and output which you rarely see anywhere as most places can't be bothered.  You are always greeted with a friendly smile and if coffee is your thing then they are always willing to chat even when they are busy! The place is quirky inside and you will often be sat next to other people who you're not with but that adds to the feel of the place in my opinion. It is always busy so you may struggle getting a table straight away. It is, however, worth the wait if you need to! read more

Top score for the coffee. This is the only place I've found in Manc that really brews exceptional espresso and serves coffee the proper way. Often have tasty sweet treats to go as well - I've liked those on the few occasions I've had them. read more
