The college advisors suck. No help at all and literally wasted my time and gas to come to the school to be told they can't help me because they don't specialize in my major. Might I add this is my first year...l have placement test that I need to take. I told them I work 7 days a week, I'm beyond busy and that was my only free day. This was over a month ago. For various personal reasons, I opted, after many years of over analyzing, to try the beginnings of a career change. To facilitate that change I felt I needed to do some educational leg work which I decided to start at NCC. Let me preface that I had attended NCC in the past but it wasn't in this Millennium and A LOT of things changed in the 20+ years that had transpired in between. Remember to keep in mind if you read this: these are only my personal experiences and they are not necessarily indicative of how things may turn out for anyone else. Administrative: A lot of the initial paperwork for admission is done online via their website. Very easy and everything is well laid out. The college also does a great job explaining academic calendars, course schedules and course descriptions with lots of detail. Truly, all of this information is at your fingertips with minimal searching or effort required. Eventually you probably will have to do some business at the Student Enrollment Center on campus. The people that work here are all over the place in terms of their willingness to tell you things or in terms of being helpful. The one older woman who sits out at the desk next to financial aid is completely miserable. Before meeting with someone from financial aid I had to interact with her for a few minutes and she did her best to talk down to me and make me feel really stupid/inadequate. On the flip side, John in financial aid is fantastic. Very patient and very willing to go the extra mile to help. Advising: This part for me was pretty miserable. I went to the main academic advising office on the 3rd floor of College Center, signed in and waited for the next available adviser. I wound up getting an older guy who I feel didn't know what to do with me. He seemed accustomed to 18 year olds who have no idea about the process, not someone over 40 that had been there in the past and can actually ask him questions. The questions I asked him were mostly ignored/talked around and he eventually gave me a blank add/drop form, signed it and told me to "do what I wanted" because he felt I had a good grip on things. So, more or less I was on my own. Bookstore: The prices are very high and I assume that has something to do with the place being run by a 3rd party. They claim that they'll match prices from other sites but I can't be bothered with the hassle. Amazon or Chegg usually beat the prices here especially for rentals. Although of course there are classes where the book is proprietary to the school or it's a new edition then you have to suck it up and buy it here. Note that the new game in town for some classes is to bundle the cost of the book into the tuition price. Always shop around as that is not necessarily the best possible price and it might be to your benefit to opt out of that arrangement versus always accepting it. Hey, nothing wrong with a few extra financial aid dollars in your pocket versus someone else's. Classes: This is way too varied to do justice to it but I would say it doesn't hurt to give Rate My Professor a look because while there is some crack pot stuff on there, there is also a lot of truth mixed in. What is maddening is that the college does not have some sense of standards regarding some very important things like professors response time to emails. When you take a traditional classroom based class things are easy because you get to know them and they get to know you plus if there is an issue it's always easy to make time to talk in person. Too many of the online teachers are adjuncts that live in other states and/or they adjunct at multiple schools in multiple states which means getting a response to an email can take 3-4-5 days only to get a smart ass half-baked response which puts you back at square one. Having a teacher only respond to emails on weekends because they have another job during the week is unacceptable especially because that is your only communication option. This is 2019. It shouldn't be that slow and this hard. Yet, it very much is because it's happened to me three times yet I've also had a history professor who responded to everything within a few hours even at 1am. Overall NCC has far more good points than bad points and if you live in a sponsoring school district the tuition prices are more than reasonable. Hopefully going forward the school's administration takes a harder look at/listens to some the issues that are present regarding the accountability of some of the adjunct faculty. Some are really great and others seem less than thrilled to do anything except collect a paycheck. Towards the end of the semester the school asks people to fill out surveys about their experience. I was in absolute awe of this Community College. It was nothing like Community Colleges I have been exposed to in my life. With a wide expanse this college looked and felt like a typical 4 year college. They had dorms, dining halls and even boasted a Farmers Market. As we arrived kids were playing sports and they had an athletic department with Intercollegiate Athletics. The students we met were kind and willing to walk is to where we needed to be for our talk by Dr.Temple Grandin. The entire experience was awesome and I hope my kids would consider this institution if they are seeking this type of school. read more

School is great for the price. But I gave 3 stars because of my experience freshman year. I had the 'pleasure' of getting the adjunct known as Prof. Okune for my English class. The man spoke the most broken English I have heard yet. He was from Nigeria and even told us his specialty was teaching English to students in Nigeria. I could barely understand him and he said very inappropriate thing in class about sex and abstinence. Myself and a few students from class complained to the dean a numerous of times but that accomplished nothing. I ended up failing (surprise!) The school clearly has no regard for it's students. But if you need a quick degree and cheap, then this is the place. Just stay away from when you see the word adjunct when signing up for classes. They have been known to suck! read more

If you are a high school student your family should think twice before using the school. I paid cash out-of-pocket for my high school student to attend a class here and she got deathly sick with the flu and then pneumonia just as classes started, she never attended even one class. At first we didn't know she was so sick and thought she would just miss the first or second day of classes but once all the x-rays and everything came in we realized how very sick she was and as a minor her doctor told her she was not to attend class because we had to make sure her lungs healed. I have x-rays and a doctors note from both the regular doctor plus the emergency doctor plus her family doctor and North Hampton refused to pay attention to any of it and kept my money. They said because we didn't have a crystal ball and have a note on day one how sick she was that they were going to ignore all of the following doctors notes. So if the state is paying it's fine but if it's out of your own pocket I would say go to more reputable organization- this place is not set up to deal with high school kids and families. They gave me credit but what difference does that make when my kids already at a good private college somewhere else. Update: Be warned that if you do end up getting a credit, which we received instead of my money back, the credit is only allowed to be used for tuition for that student, not books or anything else so I was unable to use it as a gift for someone else. In the end I just lost all that money. I'm still floored that even though we missed the deadline because my child was devastatingly ill with pneumonia (I have x-rays, I have ER visit notes, I have multiple Dr. notes spanning the entire length of her illness which started before classes began and ended well after they started, including a note from my daughter's doctor saying he didn't want her to go back to school because it was dangerous for her) and this collection of dispassionate individuals refused to return the money that my child was never ever going to use when my tax dollars pay for the school the first place it's not like I don't make a contribution anyway. They took their money and I'm still completely disgusted. My fax has it sent to Steve in the bursars office. read more

Where do I begin?... I started my classes in 2008, but could only be able to finish by the end of 2014. As a New Yorker, my first semester was a huge culture shock. I have witnessed too many racist incidents and have dealt with students, with the mentality of a NY 6th grader. Despite me making it clear that I was adjusting, I got the warm welcome from two preps mocking me in English class. Petty drama was an ongoing matter, which made my academics more complicated than they should be. The staff members are very picky when it comes to favoritism. I do have a hand full, who adore me, while others despise me. I felt unwanted most of the time. Also, every time I reported any form of harassment against me, I end up being told off. It wouldn't matter if I would report my roommate vandalizing my belongings, or someone spreading rumors about me. It was always my fault. I'm just glad that I'm out of this poor excuse for a college. read more
