History
Established in 1980.
During the metals boom of the late 1970's, Dave Howell thought it was the ideal time for him to turn his lifelong passion - coins - into a business venture. With the blessing of his wife, Sandy, and only four cases showcasing his personal collection, he opened Northampton Coin Exchange on Main Street in 1980. His interest in jewelry came as an ancillary to the coin business, but soon became more of a focus for the store with the addition of his in-laws, Bill and Betty Kline in the mid 1980's, and their new location on Center Street. Dave's daughter Sarah became involved in 2003, toward the end of Bill's tenure as General Manager. She and her father found great joy and success in running Northampton Coin & Jewelry together for 8 years until Dave's passing in 2011. Sarah continues to operate the business with the help of her amazing and dedicated staff, who all strive daily to carry on the high standards established by the Howell family over the past 30 years.
Meet the Business Owner: Sarah S.
Since 2003, Sarah Howell Schaffer has proudly worked alongside her father and grandfather at Northampton Coin & Jewelry. She is honored to carry on her family's legacy of offering the Lehigh Valley quality jewelry with personal attention. Sarah received a Bachelors Degree from Dickinson College in 2001 and a Graduate Diamonds diploma from the Gemological Institute of America in 2005. She stays on the cutting edge of gemstone and jewelry trends by regularly attending JCK shows and GIA seminars in New York and Las Vegas. As the owner and primary buyer for the store, Sarah prides herself in providing her customers with unique, fashionable pieces at near wholesale prices.
