Nice facility but when signing up for membership I was told that all of the yoga and exercise studios could be used whenever there wasnt a class, however when i tried to use the studio they were locked and the front desk said they could not unlock them for us due to the lack of cameras in the studios for liability. I dont know if the person who signed up our membership was incorrect in telling us this but the only reason we had bought a membership was to use the studio for dance as studio rental is incredibly expensive. I joined this location specifically for the "warm pool." In the last two months, only one time, have I been able to actually swim without an issue. There are only 3 lanes available; and if you go anytime after work, good luck getting access to the single lane that they condense lap swimmers down to due to swim lessons taking precedence. There are weird "safety breaks" that occur throughout the day and the last time I was there, I was in my final 25 lengths to my 2 mi swim and was told I had to get out because the lifeguard "deserved a break" (her words, not mine). Mind you, I was the ONLY person in the entire aquatics area at this time. And, she was wearing street clothes; not even a swim suit. I assured her I was of no concern to her and asked if I could finish my training. She suggested I "read the signs" As soon as my training comes to an end, I will be leaving this location. Their lack of employees, specifically lifeguards, should not negatively impact paying members. If I could submit more complaints, I would. read more

LOVE this place ! The new remodel looks great and is such an upgrade from what was there before. They have child care, lap pools, outdoor track, classes for every age, locker rooms with showers, and the sweetest staff around. If your looking for an awesome family oriented gym in this area you found the right one. read more

Smaller location than the main branch by the river, but perfect for me. They have a smaller weights area, weight machines and tons of cardio machines in an upper room. A child care center, which I'm sure is helpful for moms trying to get a work out in. I never have an issue finding an open machine, all of which have TVs. I came here once with my little sister and brother to use the pool on open swim night. A little busy, not too long of line for the slide, and GREAT family bathrooms. Set-up well and made me feel safe about bring my little kidlets around to change and swim. Every time I come here, the people at the front desk are incredibly nice, understanding, patient and helpful, a huge bonus! read more

This Y is what a gym should be. I've been working out here since the day it opened, I believe sometime in '09. I transferred to the Orth Rd. Y from the downtown facility because it was much closer--I was right across I-90 from it. I've had memberships or worked out at anywhere from Lifetime Fitness to LA Fitness to Bally's to Charter to other Ys all over the state and country, if I was traveling. I always took pride in the fact that my hometown gym trumped all of them. The facility has everything you need, and then some. I rarely ever had to wait to use a machine or bench in the workout area. Awesome aquatics center. An open basketball court is almost always available. My daughter loved the indoor play area in the child care center. My girlfriend at the time did the Zumba classes while I was in the weight room getting my swoll on. From the kept up grounds to the clean locker rooms and bathrooms, everything about this Y is spot on. Of course, a lot of gyms these days can match these amenities, but what really puts this YMCA above the others is the staff. They are an awesome, friendly, and knowledgeable bunch. They know your name and take the time to talk to you--you're not just a random person who swipes in and heads to the elliptical. I don't always look forward to spending an hour or two of my morning doing strenuous activity, but when I walk in those front doors, the happy people at the desk have a way of changing all that. Unfortunately, I recently had to move to the Chicago area to finish my degree. I truly miss the Y. Right now, I'm working out at a cookie-cutter gym in a strip mall. The difference is night and day. All gyms really aren't created equal. read more

I need to update my review because there's a particular lifeguard or 2 who have been generous in allowing us into the pool at times where they could have turned us away (not capacity wise) but as long as there were enough lifeguards, has allowed us to stay in the pool/come into the pool. The kindness of a few strangers can definitely change the mood of the day and the safety of my child. We're teaching him for safety at this point, not for fun. As spring warms up, I imagine that my son will enjoy the outdoor playground immensely. He hasn't been interested in the indoor play area after the first few times. I think it's just too small. We have workout equipment at home. So basically, all we use is the pool to teach. I notice the locker rooms getting cleaned quite frequently. And there is usually a family changing room open when we come in (might have to wait 2-3 minutes for one to open at some point. The Machine that rings out the extra water in your swimsuit comes in handy and can save your bag or car some expenses from water damage. read more

Pros: Newer building, great swimming area for kids, Awesome Physical therapy staff (Eske & Brian) they nursed me back to health, nice locker rooms & showers, three different types of locker rooms (including a family changing room), and just a really nice staff. Cons: Dirty ceilings in the gym. Tons of dust on the walls and in the rafters. The worst thing I can say is that the babysitting is horrible. It was good back in 2009, but has decreased to where I do not take my child anymore and cancelled my membership. Lastly, expect the TVs not to work every so often. I have visited a lot YMCAs in America and this is a three star YMCA. It needs to have a bigger fitness area and there is no room to grow. The babysitting is horrible. I absolutely love this place! I spend a lot of time here each and every week! The kids care is the best! The women have watched my boys since they were babies and they look forward to hanging out in there while I workout. The staff are always friendly and pleasant. The locker rooms are clean as well as the training center and exercise studios. The instructors are the best and I always look forward to attending the different fitness classes each day. They keep me motivated. The price of membership is not bad, especially for the amount of classes I take. A punch card at some other place would cost a heck of a lot more. I highly recommend this Y! There's something for everyone in your family, I'm truly going to miss this place when my family moves!! Other YMCAs don't offer as much as the Rock River Valley! read more

This is by far the best Y I have attended. I used to go to the Belvidere Y but kept being bothered by gross men hitting on me and the workout space is way too and it feels like a sauna in the workout area! Nobody wants to workout in extreme heat! Northeast branch has the temperature nice and cool and nobody bother me! Large fitness space and new machines. read more

i got a membership here with my friends and i must say that the facility is nice but it's still a little on the small side. I used to work out at Peak and alot of people act like it's a cult there. . . honestly, i thought it was. Peak has one great thing going for it and that's it's size. it doesn't matter what time of day you go in you can pretty much find a machine or some free weights. this latest YMCA to open in the area is super clean and VERY nice. lots of cardio equipment and the pool and private rooms for Yoga/zumba/karate classes are nice but the weight area is serious lacking. Once that is tended to this would get 5 stars. read more

(was here at noon 9-11-15) I always come here to workout; I honestly prefer this over planet fitness or peak or any other gym that is out there. The YMCA is a family facility., and that is what I like and should be could with anyone that has kids. They care for kids more then any other gym facility. Now this branch, the Northeast branch, I like it because it's cleaner then the downtown Rockford Y. Reason I say that because of the weight room area and the pool area. it feels cleaner, and it is always taken care of. Just the only thing that of course can't be taken care of 24/7. But I think that the person that is running the cleaning should visit the locker rooms at least a few times during their shift to clean the sink, the stalls, and etc. Just to give it a touch up, especially when the kids just ram-sacked the place lol. Same goes for the men's locker room and what not. Just touch it up a couple times during your shift, if you are on cleaning duty. The Pool is nice, even though it's a three lane lap pool, it doesn't hurt to share a lane with someone who is doing laps., especially when the lanes are busy. The lifeguards are always on watch, unlike Peak; the trainers in the weight room are always attentive and ready to answer any questions about being fit. The kid area is always clean and organized for any kids to go and play on the Wii or the ping pong. As I stated, this place is great for families, with it's family values. Kids are first. Health is first. Come here and be part of the family. read more
