Labor and delivery was great! You only hear horror stories when you move here but I had great care. Nurses are nice. OB department all nice and very professional. The only bad thing is that they have a third party doing all of their billing so after you have a baby it seems like you keep getting multiple bills but unfortunately that's just how they work. I wasn't enthusiastic about going to the ER, but my friend insisted. I had developed weakness in my legs, tiredness, and a mildly uncomfortable pain through my abdomen. A nurse eventually came in to insert the needle necessary for an IV drip. Spent 3+ hours in an exam room before someone came in to see me. By this time, I was tired, but I think the doctor was a man. Poked and prodded a bit, ran some kind of scan, and then vanished again. When someone else showed up, it was to show me the test results: gall stones. No treatment was discussed, no prognosis offered, no suggestions for altering my eating habits, but I got a prescription and checked out. Basically, I got the impression I was being sent home to die. What a waste of time. The staff's bedside manner was deplorable, the level of care an absolute zero, and the doctor uncommunicative, the lack of information astounding. The insurance was swindled out of $17,000 and I had to shell out just under $200 for the privilege of lying on a gurney for over 4 hours. I wasn't even offered a cup of water. I now understand why most locals prefer to drive to Salt Lake City for their medical ailments. I could add a lot more, but I think I made my opinion clear. NOTE: My impressions may be a bit skewed because I can't clearly recall what was done. Maybe they spiked the IV. I'm totally fed up with NNRH. Will do my own research and adjust my eating habits accordingly. As a final insult, the pain pills didn't do a thing...thank goodness my pain was mild. I've lived in Elko for many years. NNRH is rated by Medicare.gov as a two-star hospital. Other rating systems give it one star. One article called it one of the worst hospitals in America, in the bottom 5% of all hospitals. My stories are lengthy. One story, I was in a car accident and had car window glass in my head and face, and both arms. So they had to remove it, no problem. This EMT was scrubbing the wounds on my face after they removed all the glass, and I kept flinching. He told me to "man up and quit being a baby" when I kept flinching. When I got home, I looked in the mirror and saw a glint. It was a rectangle of car window glass. He had been scrubbing it into my face. Everyone I know in Elko since 1979 will do ANYTHING to avoid going to this hospital; if they need care, they BEG to please be taken ANYWHERE else. Most of us get all our care in Salt Lake City, where the difference in the level of care is striking. Another story was that I had a long-term illness in Elko lasting 10 months. I went to the doctors so many times, and they could see I was sick; my blood tests proved it, but they didn't know what to do. Finally a nurse took me aside and advised me to go to Salt Lake. I asked my PCP to refer me, but he said, "I don't know anyone to refer you to". So I went without a referral. In Salt Lake, they admitted me to the hospital immediately, where I almost died. They said it was miraculous that I lived after not receiving care for so long. They also said they see cases like mine routinely from Elko, Ely, and other towns in Nevada. If you willingly go to this hospital, you're a damn fool. read more

Be aware your gonna get double billed, one for facility and one for physician. And even if your taking that 'sweet 60%' deal it doesn't cover the physician. Total bs cuz even when they don't do anything for you your going to pay outrageous. read more

After camping/hiking in the beautiful Ruby Mountains, I went to the ER with minor blood in urine (tests showed no infection), but other blood tests (that had never been included in my "blood panels" before) indicated I may have had a "silent heart attack". Angiogram revealed two arterial blockages in my heart, and very soon I had two stents implanted which opened up the blood flow. Great doctors (Whimple, Truong) who seemed concerned and explained the problems, great nurses like Alix and Rubi. Overall they did an awesome job! read more

None of the ER nurses have any compassion for the patients. They are rude and don't like it when you ask them for anything. My husband asked for a cup of ice and the nurse loudly sighed. He asked if that was a problem and she said no but was still rude about it. If you don't like your job then find something else. I have experienced there bad attitudes many times, not just today. They have treated my daughter with the same contempt as my husband. Also my son was treated like garbage by a certain nurse who somehow ended up being nominated for a Daisy award. I don't know how that's possible unless she's just racist and treats others well. I know this hospital has some excellent nurses and staff in the medical center next door but not in the ER. read more

Would give this hospital negative stars if possible. They had no rules or regulations. My dad and I were admitted here after a severe accident and they did not do a good job at all. We were near Wells when my wife thought she should get to a doctor - NOW. Nothing in Wells, so we made it quickly to Elko where we looked up the local hospital and found this fine one. We followed the big blue "H" signs right to it. We were checked in quickly in the ER, where the staff treated my wife for what could be a heart attack. They were quick and knowledgeable in their actions. They had wifey stay overnight while they poked and prodded and tested and re-tested. There was plenty of space out front on a wide dirt area where I parked our pick-up and travel trailer. In fact, I spent the night in it, right in front of the ER door (well, almost right in front. It was a short walk). All in all, when my wife was released, we were darned glad we stopped and had her symptoms checked out (which thankfully, turned out NOT to be a heart attack!). The entire staff was wonderful. Friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and when called for, they had a sense of humor. While I never want to go to ANY hospital for ANYthing, I'd easily return to this one for medical needs. read more

I was involved in an accident while at Moon Rocks and was taken here. Thank God I was as they were quick, passionate and very professional! I have no insurance and later would pay about $5000. and it was worth every penny. I didn't know if I would lose my arm on the drive out but was elated when they took care of the issues and sewed me back up. Had the worse experience of our lives at this ER. We spent 10 hrs listening to one excuse after another on the reason for the delay. Apparently the personnel in Radiology went AOL! We were told my daughter may be air lifted to SLC for emergency surgery, but were waiting for the MRI results to discuss. My 8 yr old grand daughter was writing please don't die mommy, I love you. All this excuses and mistakes made at this hospital does not bode well and are inexcusable. Avoid this medical facility if you value your life! read more

On Thursday my dad was so scared that the dr's at your hospital were going to kill him (like they almost did last time) that he asked to be transported to Twin Falls. And now today my niece went in because she's 15 weeks pregnant and started having contractions and after looking at her file and saying " I see you have had several complications in the past." You tell her you have no beds for her. You can't even check for a heartbeat? Now she is driving to Twin Falls! I understand no dr's want to live in your shit town so maybe you should do something about it and offer them more money and get some real doctors and some new staff that knows what they are doing. My dad has been in the ICU since Thursday has had 2 blood transfusions and now has pneumonia. I'm sure if he would have stayed in elko he would have been dead! read more

This place is a mixed bag. Your care quality depends on your quality of insurance. Its manned by 9 to 5r's with no compassion. I have been told to go home and make myself comfortable and dismissed during verified heart attacks because i refused narcotics (morphine). When i refused the drug i was listed as noncompliant so they could cover their butts against liability. They've written in my folder to let nature take its course.. In other words they decided to not try and save my life.. Essentially a DNR.. WITHOUT my consent. My opinion is avoid this place if you can,. You may live. read more

Short version: Great staff. Clean hospital. Up to date technology. Quick background: I have Cystic Fibrosis so I've spent plenty of time in various hospitals. Also I live in California, so there's that. Story time: I hurt my neck pretty bad in a trampoline-backflip accident in Idaho. My home hospital is Stanford in Palo Alto, CA so I decided to leave earlier than planned to make the drive home. 100 miles later I was too tired to drive and realized that I had very limited movement from my neck to my shoulder blades. I couldn't sleep and couldn't drive so I looked up the closest hospital (This one. That's this hospital). A few words on my past ER experience: I've had some bad experiences with hospitals. Being a post double-lung transplant recipient I have a weak immune system due to the anti-rejection meds that I take. So weak that a common cold can put me in the hospital for weeks. I once went to Hawaii with two others like me and my friend got hurt, went to the ER, they didn't take her pre-existing condition seriously and put her in a bed separated from other people by only curtains. She got sick, never recovered, and after a year of going downhill she died. Another time I had to go to an ER in the Oakland area. Horrible experience. Long wait time, jaded staff, and scary patients. It even smelled like sickness. Anyway... As I walked into the NNRH ER on that Saturday night I was praying it wouldn't be too busy. Also it's a small hospital which typically means limited knowledge, resources, and technology. Not here. No one else was in the ER waiting. Just a security guard with a friendly smile and an admitting nurse who took my listened to my story and left to tell the doctor. I took a seat in the clean waiting room. After a minute they took me back to a private room which is absolutely necessary to prevent cross-contamination. I think perhaps all of the beds are in private rooms. Most new hospitals are being built with all private rooms as they have finally figured out how important that is. The process in the ER was quick and before I knew it I was being wheeled to the CT scanner. I am impressed that this small hospital is able to do CT scans. Because it was a neck injury the doctor realized the importance of getting as clear of a picture as possible. An x-ray wouldn't be good enough. Everyone worked as a team. From the nurse that helped the radiologist to the EMT that placed my IV, everyone had a good balance of professionalism with friendly bedside manner. Sure enough I had broken my neck in two places. That explained the loud cracks I heard. The doctor explained that they were "stable fractures" and admitted me for pain management overnight, which also gave me time to work out a plan to get home. The inpatient nurses did a great job picking up where the ER staff left off with a perfect blend of friendliness and professionalism. I always felt like they cared and knew what they were doing. The nurse explained that because I was being discharged on a Sunday they weren't able to give me a copy of my CT scan for Stanford at that time. Regarding my pre-existing condition, they didn't dismiss it or act like they knew everything and didn't need to listen to me. I am incredibly impressed with this hospital and confident in their capabilities. read more

I was surprised to find this hospital and staff had superseded my expectations Extraordinarily clean; friendly and professional. I'm from Orange County, California and had spent a great deal of time in a few of the hospitals there, including CHOC for my son and Hoag for many family members throughout the years. I was completely impressed by the tentativeness of the doctor in the ER; the nurses and staff. It's my understanding that this hospital needs more doctors since it's a rural town. ANYONE willing to work here would be more than impressed and satisfied, I would imagine. I have never been treated better than I was in NNRH! I was surprised actually, to discover the difference in care, especially since the Orange County hospitals aren't without unlimited resources and renowned physicians. It is a very sad day when the only hospital within a couple hundred miles hires physicians that can berate patients and allows this to continue. My husband has had over 5 major life threatening illness over the past few year. Has been air flighted from NNRH more times than I can count. Yet when he goes into the ER some of the doctors, Dr Brandan Crum treats him like he's junkie looking for a fix. He does not take any narcotics, but only goes to the ER when his pain is intolerable. On Saturday, he was in due to severe chest pain, When Dr. Crum came on duty, he informed him nothings was wrong with his heart , gave him a Tylenol and told him to leave. This is the same man who underwent triple bypass surgery 3 months ago. Another patient, a 70 year old man was in for severe abdominal pain. He was being tested by the physician to rule out problems. Then Dr. Crum came on shift. The gentleman was upset about being in the ER for 7 hrs, and his pain was worsening. Dr . Crum came on duty and informed this patient that there was nothing wrong with him. The man insisted that his pain was worsening. Dr. Brandan Crum informed him he was a certified Emergency Room Physician and he needed to leave his ER. The patient said he is pain was worsening, Dr. Crum replied there was nothing F...... wrong with him and he needed to leave. An argument between this Dr. and patient ensued with both screaming the F.... word throughout the ER. I am a retired nurse with 40 years experience and never have I heard a Dr. speak to his patients like this . Dr. Crum, they called the local police department to have this gentleman taken out of "his" ER. Another patient was in with a complaint, when Dr. Crum, told the nurses to get rid of this patient, she's been in there 3 times with the same complaint. Another patient was in with strep throat, who was then loudly informed by Dr. Crum, that strep throat was not a reason to visit the ER. He would know of course because he's a "Certified Emergency Room Doctor". This same expert, on previous ER visits by my husband, has also left patients medical records open and left the room allowing all his information to be read by anyone interested. All of these are serious HIPPA violations. For a patient in one room to know what going on in another room is atrocious, let alone knowing what is going on in several others because this doctor is so unprofessional. Are we to be treated like his in our community because we are small. It's time to make NNRH accountable read more

While I am glad we have an Emergency Room at Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital in Elko Nevada, the emergency staff has a lot to learn about mental illness, addiction and suicide. Often times they have very little compassion or understanding for people who are suffering. Many of us have or had an addict in their family or someone who has been diagnosed with a mental illness. It is a tragic circumstance that is a nationwide emergency. I have sat at the bedside with a family member and have heard nurses and or staff make jokes about my son, call him a drunk and a waste of their time. I have asked for a written protocol about how they handle suicidal patients (as that is where suicidal patients are taken) and they have never provided me with one so I am assuming that they do not have one. On Sept 29 my son was discharged to a "friend" wearing only a pair of paper pajamas, that had blood all over them. He was not given his clothes, or his wallet. He had been admitted twice in one day for suicidal ideation, and alcohol/drug intoxication. He was brought in the first time by the police who told me that he was "suicidal and very sick" and another time by a friend when he became unconscious in his friend's car. I called the emergency room to try and talk with the doctor to GIVE him information because I knew that my son's behavior was escalating and that he was a danger to himself. Whomever answered the phone would not let me talk to the doctor and to this day I don't know if they ever passed on my information to the doctor. I asked that he be put on a "legal hold" because he had been threatening suicide and he was getting worse. I called the emergency room back twice and there was no answer. To make a very sad, long, complicated short, my son killed himself the day after he was discharged. I understand my son had challenges, absolutely, and I don't blame the ER staff for his death, but I believe the ER staff dropped the ball. My son might have killed himself anyway but if he would have been put on a legal hold he wouldn't have killed himself on the day that he did. And. everyday my son was alive there was hope. Now there is no hope. I spoke to 4 different people at the hospital including the Director of nurses and the CEO to find out what happened the day that my son was in the ER but of course they said it was confidential but they didn't even write my son's name down or take one note. Since that time I have learned lot of the details about my son's case. The Northeastern Nevada Regional hospital ER did indeed drop the ball. read more

this hospital does alot of labor inductions...it is extremely painful and can lead to a c section. they use petocin to start labor...do your homework. look up what petocin does to your baby. it lowers the babies heart rate, putting him at risk..the labor induction makes it double the chance of a c section. if your cervix is not ready they will rippen it, will also use a catheter to insert a ballon to fill with salin to open cervix...excruciating pain.. if your cervix is not ready, baby is not ready. do your research. its your body your baby. they almost killed my grandchild. read more
