After calling Northern Neck insurance asking to speak to the underwriter responsible for this decision I was told I would be transferred to that department only to be immediately sent to voicemail. I've only been receiving info from Northern Neck through my 3rd party insurance intermediary Towne Insurance. Towne Insurance was able to get in contact with the supervisor of the underwriter who revoked my coverage and they confirmed that my coverage would be revoked with no recourse available to keep my policy. If you want to get insurance that won't arbitrarily drop your coverage STAY AWAY FROM NORTHERN NECK. Hopefully others can avoid my experience by avoiding this company. read more

Was involved in an accident that was other driver's fault in Tenn. Called my insurance co(Northern neck) for assistance on the side of the interstate. Was rudely told that although I have towing insurance, I should've "Planned ahead by carrying cash to cover out of state towing charges" by the agent. Thank goodness Progressive insurance (other driver had) stepped up and handled me like I was with them. I was amazed. Wouldn't reccomend. Agents argue that in state towing @$75/tow is sufficient. Lol. Tow Co. Won't start the trucks for under $300.00. Nobody tows for $75/tow. Then argued with me while I'm on the side of the road, about how I should've planned ahead. [I did! Honestly, what a difficult group to work with. I do not recommend them at all. There is a claim out for a hospital bill from a car accident - with all information provided to the claims adjustor over 2 months ago. I just received a call from a debt collector letting me know that payment had not been received at all (despite there being written notification from Northern Neck that everything was in hand and there were no questions on submission of my information). This is massively concerning as this has real world implications for my private life. I absolutely do not trust them to do the promised work they say they'll do. read more

I have been their customer 17 years without any claims. Finally, my roof needed significant repairs so I had an inspector submit a claim. Not only did they deny my claim (approving only a few minor repairs), they also threatened to cancel my insurance coverage unless I replaced my roof. So they indirectly acknowledge that my roof needs replacement, but are rejecting the claim and kicking me off the insurance. How is this not unethical? read more

How about no stars? Our Prius was rear-ended by a larger vehicle. Northern Neck was so unpleasant to deal with. They didn't pay the whole claim saying that our air bag malfunction light did not come on as a result of the impact. Well, yes it did. Why would we drive around with an airbag warning light on? In addition, they decided not to repair the hatchback which also was damaged. I mean, the impact separated the trunk area slightly from the rest of the car. It was a pretty hard hit, tires skidding and my cup flew out of my hand and hit the dash. Northern Neck determined or rather made up story that the damages were not caused by the impact of their customer's vehicle. If you are at fault in an accident and this is your insurance company, there is no guarantee this company will pay the damages which, I guess, could expose you to a lawsuit from the injured party to collect the rest of the damages. We considered doing that. A thoroughly unethical business looking to skim money from a legitimate case. *** Below someone has responded to this review and I have contacted her. I had an agent call me as he dropped them for what he felt they were not paying their claims. I went with a different agent so I could stay with NN. (What a mistake) We bought our house and canceled our renters insurance policy, took them four months to cancel it and issue a refund check, which they mailed to an address that was 7 years old (I am sure on purpose) So I canceled my car insurance with them too. Seems this check also went to the old address after correcting it for over a YEAR!!! After I canceled it they still took another payment out of my account. I will repost once that check gets here. I canceled AGAIN on the first of September for the car (no check yet) The renters was canceled on June 1st and check just received on Sept. 20th. Tell me does this sound like someone you want to handle a claim ?? After going over my review the company reached out right away making things correct. DO NOT insure with these crooks! One star is too much. On December 23, 2022, we had roof damage from the wind storms. I filed a claim and am still fighting for these people to replace the roof as more and more damage is done. So they sent out someone who took pictures of the roof and offered us a low amount of money to repair the damage to the roof. I called in a contractor, knowing that it was not enough to repair the roof, and I was correct. The contractor said the rook must be replaced as the repairs would cause more damage. The contractor contacted the company and agreed to call an engineer to look at the roof. Meantime more storms and more damage. I got a call today from them telling me yes; there is more damage, that there is going to be another claim opened, and that we were going to have to repair the roof, not replace it, but wait, there is more. Last week I got a letter from my broker, who told me I had 90 days to replace the roof. Now, wait, you had someone take pictures telling you it needs to be replaced and even send a letter telling me they will not replace it. CROOKS! Read and do your research. Now reading other reviews, there is a history of this behavior with this insurance company. No hesitation in taking money from my account but they refuse to pay for damages!!!! read more

The whole team I worked with was great, the process moved very quickly with my car being totaled. They did a great job at communicating, and informed me on everything I would need to do if I got help for any injuries. My main agent was Phoebe Hollingsworth, and she made the whole process very easy and as least stressful as possible. She returned my calls in a timely manner as well. I was in an auto accident where another driver ran a stop sign and T-boned my truck. It was totaled; as well as the car that hit me. The other driver was 100 percent responsible and was given a ticket. His insurance company was trying to do some "shady" business in order to cheat me out of the full value of my truck. I called Northern Neck and they guided me through the process in dealing with his insurance co.; and, I subsequently recovered the full value of my truck. I am changing my review of Northern Neck Insurance due to my recent interaction with this company. I have been insured for many years. I have always paid my premiums on time. I have not had a lot of claim activity so this company has definitely profited from my business. With this last interaction, I see that I am not a valued customer. No one has ever called me back, and I still cannot reach a person, and now am not even given the opportunity to leave a message. Filed a claim with them for a damage to my home and they sent an adjuster within couple of days. After the adjuster submitted his analysis/estimate to the insurance company, they sent me a check for the repairs with 2 - 3 days. They are very responsive. This "so called" insurance company is a sad, pathetic case of business gone bad! In our case we lost most of our roof and siding in a well known state wide storm. We were assured by the adjuster that our policy had "full replacement cost" but Northern Neck disagreed and we didn't get a dime for the new roof or siding. Now we're stuck with $7,500 in repair costs while they continue to eagerly take our monthly payments! When my wife called and questioned them about a recent burst pipe that flooded 3 rooms of our home they became rude and belligerent. They told my wife that she didn't know how to read the adjuster's report and invoice. Bad move considering my wife audits 3 million dollar invoices for a living and she was told to calm down and she didn't understand. Now we have black mold and 3 rooms with walls and floors torn up and not even a shred of commitment that they are behind us and have our backs. How utterly pathetic! Shame on you Northern Neck Insurance and our payments will be going eleswhere and we will make every effort to share our real life experiences with as many in our area as possible. read more

After mountains of paperwork, a hundred emails and phone calls, they sent me a letter stating the claim has been denied. BBB and VA Insurance commissioner has been notified. I've had Northern Neck for over 10 years for my home and auto insurance. I've never had an accident in the 57 years I've been driving. I did have a vulture commit suicide by dive bombing into my car causing $1,100 in damage. Northern Neck paid that claim immediately. I have not had any moving violations in over 10 years. But because I am single, retired, low credit rating, and a woman they have consistently increased my insurance every year. My credit report does not reflect my current mortgage payments, which I've made on time for the past 4-1/2 years, nor does it reflect my gas credit card, which is typically paid off each month. My other 2 credit cards are on my report and show I'm always on time. Since I stopped working last July, my car mostly sits in my driveway. For me to drive 200 miles in a week, occurs only when I drive to Richmond (80 miles round trip) for Drs appts. and since I am in excellent health, those are only for annual checkups. As an example from 2/12/20 - 2/26/20, I drove a total of 384 miles, that's an average of 27 miles/day. This year they increased my insurance to over $900/year, for a car that will be driven less than 10,000 miles in a year, is 20 years old, and is parked in my driveway, in a gated community, 40 miles west of Richmond. I've been extremely happy with the service I've received from the company and it's agents, but I'm very disappointed that, after years of paying premiums and never making any claims or having a poor driving record, I am being charged exorbitant premiums. read more

I have been with Northern Neck Insurance company for going on 9 years. I have had a homeowner's claim, as well as a total loss vehicle claim. On both of these, I found my adjuster very helpful and friendly. I was pleasantly surprised to have them pay off the total balance of the car note when my daughter totaled her car, as it was no where near worth what she still owed on it. I'm not a customer and based on my experience as one whose unit was damaged because of an issue with their insured, I will never be a customer. From the start, the claims adjuster was attempting to avert blame by telling me to claim the damage on my insurance after giving me a lecture on having homeowners insurance (which I have but that fact was irrelevant as it was not my appliance that leaked water causing the damage). Then, after their "investigation"which consisted of a photographer taking pictures of our ceiling, the adjuster claimed that her insured was not liable because they cut the water off after discovering the leak. Yeah, sure it was discovered--after 15 minutes of water leaking through the ceiling. Reading the complaints on this website should serve as a cautionary tale to those seeking to be insured by this company. While the BBB did not rule in favor of the customer--a fact I find appalling--you all should read between the lines. This insurance company is just taking their insureds' money and not providing service. You get what you pay for. read more
