I should have written this review long ago. My tendency, though, is always to tell "the whole story," and mine would be longish. So, I finally decided to listen to my boyfriend, who said, "You don't have to go back 12 or so years, when you first learned your mouth is as weird as the rest of you. Just start a couple years ago, and you might end up with something that doesn't have to be published by Simon and Schuster." So, here's an abridged version. I had a large torus palatinus, that I thought was normal -- until I needed an upper dental plate. Then I was surprised to learn that the bony growth in the roof of my mouth wasn't something everyone has! While an extraordinary dentist was building a plate around the torus, it started separating into two parts. Both were sore and inflamed, and had to be removed. Being a veteran, I have VA healthcare, and it's very good. However, it doesn't extend to dental work, and the dentist (Dr. Delf, of Arrowhead Dental in Rice Lake, WI) was going far beyond the call of duty, to support my remaining teeth, and build an exceptionally good upper plate -- without any charge to me! He sent me to Dr. Puffer, who was then practicing at Northern Oral Surgery and Implant Center, in Superior, WI. I just learned that he has retired, but I'm sending the review, anyway. Dr. Puffer did a great job for me, taking out the largest piece of torus right away, without any problem whatsoever. He removed the remaining portion later, and the healing time was fast. (This was something I'd been fearful of, because I'd long ago (12 or so years?) been told that my age might make the healing slow. Dr. Puffer did my surgery without charge, also, and I'm so grateful for that. Anyway, I'm glad for the doctor that he could retire, and I hope he's having a great time. But Superior lost a load of talent when he left. So, even though I'm late, I wanted to say thank you to Dr. Puffer, and everyone at Northern Oral Surgery. read more

A botched wisdom tooth removal caused permanent nerve damage. I had to invest in a red-light therapy device ($600) just to get any improvement. After multiple follow ups, days off of work for appointments, investment in the therapy device and not to mention the distress this caused me, Dr. Puffer wouldn't even consider waiving his portion of the bill (after insurance $494). I guess he needs the money more than I do? Now I'm left with seeing a nerve specialist to repair the damage. I can't speak to the entire practice, but I definitely don't recommend Dr. Puffer. This is just a small portion of the issues I had with this provider. Overall, very poor care from this place. read more

Billing is lacking. I have had two daughters have wisdom teeth removal done @ Northern Oral. I have had to spend my own time with insurance with claims because of being medical and dental. My daughter had her surgery in June. Claim hadn't gone through. I called Northern Oral and was told they submitted it the day of surgery. We haven't seen anything until recently and found out it was only medical that was submitted. They only now just submitted dental because insurance denied the claims. Here's what I don't understand. All that Northern Oral does is this daily and still don't know how to submit claims to both medical and dental. They want payment the day of but yet both times we over pay and have to wait months for credit. On top of that, I have to call my insurance and figure things out. Staff were generally cold and unhelpful. I got four wisdoms removed, but the only pain medication they gave me was 800mg Ibuprofen and 1000mg Acetaminophen. I wasn't given any antibiotics like my dentist recommended. They claimed to give me a 24/he service number, but my dad couldn't find it anywhere in my aftercare bag. When I called a few days after my surgery concerned I may have dry socket the nurse told me I was healing normally. Shortly after I went to urgent care and was diagnosed with an infection in two of the exctration sites and my cheeks. read more

Doesn't cover insurance info with you until after your appointment, then tells you that they are not network for your policy.

My dentist sent over my referral & about a week later I still hadn't heard from them so I called. The girl I talked to acted like it was no big deal even though it clearly said that it needed to be done before the 14th so my braces could go on. Them she said they couldn't do it till like the end of March. Seriously you have had it for a week never call me I have to call you & then you push it out till then? (A month and a half) Called Bluestone & they got the info for my dentist & were so nice and understanding, its Friday & they have me ready for Monday morning no problem.
