Absolutely terrific place to visit, especially for families. We got up close & personal with many alpacas & fell in love with them all. Our docent, Ricky, knew everything (really!) about alpacas & we could tell that she loved her work there. I just cannot stop telling all my friends about our day. You MUST visit & meet the alpacas!

What a fabulous place to celebrate. Six of us enjoyed…read moredinner to honor a wonderful persons birthday! ( best friend to me, mother to 2, mother in law to 1 and my husband came along too)! We shared the focaccia, smashed potatoes and broccoli. Even later in the week, We couldn't stop talking about how delish everything was. Main courses for our table included steak, & two different pasta dishes. Mist of us tried the apple cider mimosa, and some had wines. It's the sort of food where when you have finished the meal, you wish you could do it all over again. My advice, eat very S L O W L Y. For dessert we shared an orgasmic piece of flourless chocolate cake.

This place has so much going for it, a gem off the beaten path. But there are a few things that…read morehad me dropping a star. First the greats: beautiful setting and barn. Wonderful, friendly reception by the staff. Arrive a little early for your reservation, check in and grab a beer. Walk around the grounds, be sure to wear farm-ready shoes if you do this and watch your step as this is a real farm. Picnic tables are all around, grab a seat, review the menu and listen to the music. When it is time to for your reservation head back in and order at the register. You will need to pick your table in advance letting them know the table number at time of ordering. Your food will be delivered to your table. The food is very, very good. We had the pizzette as an appetizer and the wood fired crust was perfect. For dinner we chose the pasta and pork entrees. Large portions, great flavors, perfectly cooked and presented. They only serve Maine beers which is also wonderful. We shared a bottle of wine, it was reasonably priced. The frozen dessert was delicious. Dinner could not be better. Now the less goods. Cover charge. We had beers, appetizer, 2 entrees, a bottle of wine and dessert. What is the first charge I see on the bill? 2x$15 cover charge. Who ever heard of such a thing for a restaurant? Not good. If live music is a must for the venue, Increase your food prices, have a food and drink minimum or charge the cover to those who are only drinking and listening to music. After what we just dropped on dinner seeing a cover charge was not cool. Table hunting. We had a 6:15 reservation on a Saturday night. It was touch and go as to whether or not we could get a table for two in the dining room. If you can't get a table you may have to sit at a larger table and share space with others or be in bar area or outside. Would be nice to know you have a table without the stress. I am not adverse to this type of seating but it feels more brewery-like than restaurant-like. Overall this is a great place. Really good for small group or family. Not your special anniversary, quiet table kind of place. But this is a must do place when thinking about places to bring visitors or just a casual night out for two. Parking can be tricky so leave the big truck at home and bring the small car. For those thinking this is a replacement for The Lost Kitchen. It is not. Both TLK and TPF are wonderful but they are not interchangeable experiences. But, it is waaay easier to get a reservation at TPF and the food is terrific so put it on your summer dining list.

What a great place! We stopped here to see what it was all about. We had ice cream, we saw cows,…read moreand we paid to go into the area where there was lots of animals. We even fed goats and deer. We pet babies, we loved seeing the different birds. There were peacocks! It was fun, relaxing, cool in the shade. The food part is big enough to eat and relax. Ice cream was delicious. I would go back! People that worked there were really nice too.

You scream. I…read morescream. We all scream... for site made ice cream on a working Maine dairy farm ! This is a special place... a farm on a hill with their own farm shop featuring glass-bottled milk, sandwiches, and most importantly... Ice Cream ! Starting mid-April or so, they open up "The Barnyard" which is a nice little petting zoo for the kids... and occasionally a "Goat Yoga" spot for adults... which is just so uniquely crazy it almost makes me wish I did yoga. Not into yoga...? I get you. Lucky for us, they also have a hardware store / lumber yard, so you could feasibly come for Mocha Chip and stay for the 4x4 milled posts, and that's not an experience you'll soon get at a national big-box lumber store. Or a Baskin Robbins, for that matter. This place is an experience. The farm is gorgeous, the staff are friendly, the animals are fun, the lumber yard is definitely there, and the product... well that's where it's at... it's excellent. There are a few working dairy farms like this one dotted around the state, and I encourage you to check out each and every one. Smiling Hill Farm is that extra special sort of place, where it's only a few miles drive outside of Portland, but it feels worlds away and it's so, so worth the effort to get to. They also have ready-to-go quarts in the freezer, their various dairy offerings, and rotating, seasonal farm shop fare. Support your local farmers! Also... I've found the local barn cats to be super friendly and just a treat to hang with. YMMV
